What's with the new way ebay has cars listed. Before you could view a CarFax report on the car and it would show if there were any accidents or other incidents.

Now ebay has changed their recent listings to include an "AutoCheck" option which you have to purchase to view any details on the car. I know I will not purchase an AutoCheck report on every car I am interested in.

In my opinion this is gonna kill their online sales and drive even more people to make a behind the scenes deal. Their old "CarFax" way was far superior. WTH ebay?

ebay is getting crazier and its harder to get in touch with their Customer Service. You used to do a live chat with CS or just email them, but now u have to go through their FAQ section before eventually says "Here is the phone number to call"

I dont like selling on ebay anymore, because of all of the commission they take. Final price commission, shipping commission, and what gets me upset is the Paypal commission on the total price. What is the point of a Paypal commission when eBay owns Paypal? That doesnt make any sense to me.

Shipping commission also ticks me off, i sold a video game on ebay, they had a limit of what i could charge, the top was $4.00, then they took $0.60 for commission, my shipping was $2.50 plus I had to pay $1.10 at Kmart for a mailing packet, so basically i didnt get any money in return for shipping, granted it was only $0.40 but still

of course they dont do the option of check or money order, I try to get to the buyer before they pay to do the "gift option" on paypal and i might give them a "discount" but they dont understand what i am talking then they pay through ebay

Ever since Ebay has been offering free auto reports (since November 2009) they have been using AutoCheck by Experian. I just checked, and they are still there. Now you might see a posting with a car which does not have a VIN or a 17 digit vin, just have a link to AutoCheck main page, but if there is a car there with a 17 digit VIN, it should have a link to the full car report. If you see the link, "See the full Vehicle History Report" in the "Vehicle History Report Summary" near the top of the add, you should be linked to the full report for free. I had to go and do a quick check when I saw your post, as I buy and sell quite a few cars on Ebay. Older cars without a 17 digit vin, normally will not have a report.

From what I can see, anything that has been listed in the last day or so has this new crazy system. It may be only on a few cars but it could be their new way to feebay you some more.

I looked at this some more and they are offering 10 reports for $14.99. This is definitely the work of "feebay greed", I don't know how else to explain it.

I think maybe there is a glitch or something is funny with that one. Below is the most recent Shelby listed on E-bay today, and it has the history report. All of the info on E-Bay states they still offer the same service for free. So either they changed something yesterday, or there was an issue yesterday maybe.

http://cgi.ebay.com/...=item4602973cf5

Funny, I just noticed that the above link is for a Shelby at the same dealer in Indiana which I got my GT-H from a few years back. No intended coincidence, really!

Here's the answer. They did just start charging high volume sellers to use Auto Check. So you are right, the greed of the free service has changed. I wonder if the deal that Autocheck and E-bay had together has fallen apart. Appears so. So now some cars will have it, others will not if the volume sellers do not pay.

From E-bay help:
Report cost

If you create fewer than 7 vehicle listings per year, the AutoCheck vehicle history report will be included in your listing for free. For high-volume sellers who create 7 or more vehicle listings per year, AutoCheck offers several subscription levels. The table below includes more details.

They are also going to do away with the Ebay Motors Home Page.

Important reminder: Spring Seller Update—key deadlines approaching

Dear tesgt350:

We're writing to remind you of the recently announced
2012 Spring Seller Update. These eBay Motors updates will help get your listings in front of more interested buyers, and make it even easier for you to list your vehicles.

  • Easy listing with your VIN, Starting May 2, you'll be able list your vehicle just by entering your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), or enter keywords, year, make and model, and pull information from a list of matching vehicles. Most of the fields in the listing form will be filled in for you, and you can even choose a standard description for your vehicle.
  • More listing information gets your relevant listings in front of more buyers via Best Match: This year, Best Match, eBay's default sort order, will look at more information in your listing—including item description—to determine ranking. Item Specifics, such as Make, Model, and product codes, such as VINs, will be increasingly important.
  • Motors Home Page Featured will no longer be available so focus will remain squarely on relevance to a buyer's search.
  • Manage your business policies from one handy location. Opt in to a new way to create and manage custom payment, shipping, and return policies, and apply them to listings quickly and easily.
  • Category and Item Specifics updates: Vehicle Models are being moved from eBay categories to eBay Item Specifics. Review your Vehicles listings after the category changes are complete in early May and add the appropriate Model in Item Specifics. You'll also see Category additions and adjustments to Boat Parts, Motorcycle Parts and Racing Parts. Find out if your listings are affected.
Get more information about how the Spring Seller Update impacts Motors Vehicles.

As always, thank you for selling on eBay Motors.

Sincerely,
Kristine Chin
Head of eBay Motors

So let me get this straight, if a dealer lists more than 7 vehicles per year they pay a fee and I have to pay a fee as well to view these history reports? Is that correct? If so, I predict that I will longer bid on any cars from ebay what-so-ever. There is no way I'm gonna pay $2 every time I want to look and see if a vehicle has issues.

AND they're getting rid of ebay Motors too!! We'll, I think they can speed this up by charging people to just look........... perhaps around $2 per viewing should expedite the whole process :P

If the report is there, you can view it. But if its there and the seller is a dealer, that means they paid for it for you. If the seller chooses not to pay for it, guess what? They give you the option to pay for it! Isn't that nice! Yes, I agree, probably one of those awesome decisions a business makes which will loose them some customers. Remeber what happend to Net Flix? While this will probably not loose them a bunch of cusotmers, it may. Interesting business decision on their part. May loose them both sellers and buyers.

This was probably a good plan from AutoCheck. They probably gave Ebay a screeming deal on free or near free reports, now all the buyers are used to having that service there. They wait, then start charging higher prices. Somebody has to pay, so now Ebay charges either the seller or the buyer for the fee which they have to pay. I don't know, just a guess. A better way for Ebay to pass on the costs probably would have been to increase the seller costs just minimally across the board. That probably would have made more sense, but who knows....

Ebay MIGHT have purchased all or part of AutoCheck. They saw how PayPal was making Money so they purchased all or part of them and now you MUST be able to accept PayPal when selling something.
