It is frustrating that no one is manufacturing something that a number of us feel this car needs desperately....Those of us who wish to keep the factory look rims but want a much wider rear tire for seriously needed traction, could really use a pair of 18"x 11" rear rims. I wonder, if enough of us could demonstrate a blatant interest in purchasing this product asap, could we push Wheel Replicas or some other reputable rim maker already making GT500 knockoff rims in 18"x9.5" to do a limited run of them in 18"x11" for us????

Is anyone out there interested? I'd be happy to spearhead this and do the legwork on helping with offsets, clearance, etc etc and all the phone calls to push this along, if enough of us are interested in trying to demonstrate that we could put together a group buy, if some manufacturer were inclined to build the rims......

This could be a super easy, very affordable upgrade for everyone. 9.5" wide rear rims are a joke on ths car.....

This thread is for FACTORY-LOOK wheels in 11"

I would be in if they fit.

I think there is room for 1/2 inch on the outside, but maybe not 1.5 on the inside. If you can figure it out I would be in for sure.

I take it you mean Ford FR500 wheels then, that are OEM on a GT500.

Razors are Shelby Factory for the 40th Anniversary Edition and a popular wheel for a good number of Gt500 owners. I'll start another thread for them.

Sorry.

I looked into this and Justin (VMP tuning) has done it. He went to a 11.5 inch factory rim ... he indicated there would have to be some modifications done but I dont know where he is at with it

it would be very nice to add 1.5" But it would be very nice to end up with some outer lip as well and end up at 11" wide to fill the wheel well out better

CCW and others are already manufacturing 19X11 rims for this car (just not in factory look), and some members on this forum are using those rims now. 11" wide rims DO fit.

I have had some preliminary discussions with wheel designers/manufacturers this they are confident this can be done (a run of stock-look 18X10.5 or 18x11 rims). The cost of a mold would be sustainable if maybe 100 pieces could be produced in a run, for starters (that's only 50 orders of two rear rims). This rim would also fit the 2005+ mustang GT, so that should not be much of a stretch to assemble the first 50 buyers or so.....

Justin went 11.5" on widened factory rims, which I am told wil likely require shock mount mods, but 11" wide should not need mods, with the proper offset/backspacing.

It would take a few months to put up deposits, order the drawings done up, order the mold to be made, and do a run. Winter is perfect timing to get this rolling, as many of you have your cars in storage for winter.....

If we can demonstrate, say 25 guys who would put up a small deposit to order the rims, we could get a manufacturer/vendor to participate in this thread pretty quickly....

Maybe we should set up a poll to see if we can get anywhere near 25-50 affirmative votes of who would order the rims for the rear of their GT500 (or mustang GT) if assured the rims will fit properly...

So if I widened my rims to an 11" rim what would be the widest tire I can fit on it. Perhaps I'll slap the 9.5" in the front with 275's and widen the front rims to 11" and put them in the back or does the front rims have a different offset and backspacing?

I just ordered

http://www.americanm...-315-35-17.html

For the rear

and

http://www.americanm...fr500black.html
http://www.americanm...-255-45-18.html

For the Front

These will be Drag Strip Wheels and Tires only.

I'm planning on Widening these rear Wheels 1.5 later. Our Stock wheels lave a 7.22" Back Spacing. The 17x10.5s has a 6.85 Back Spacing. That means they will have .37" more Clearance on the inside of the Wheel Well. That also means they will protrude 1.37" out more then the Stock Wheels. I can live with that for Track Only Wheels. I may buy 2 more rear Wheels later just to match the front for Cruising.

So will the 18X10.5s FR500s fit with a big fat tire on it? How about the 17X10.5? I dont mind it sticking out a little, strip tire.

Still would love Schindels rim concept with some new MT meats on the car all the time. :happy feet:

You want to stick with 18s IMO, because thats the only size that DRs are available in.

Now that the new MT 345s are out, I will get a set mounted on my 11.5s and see what it takes to make them fit.

I'd be interested, count me in but in a 10.5 which is a better fit. I've seen those photos with ccw 11's and one live up close and the 295/35/19 (only 2 manufact. make this size in a 35 series) which is 27.0 tall would def'ly fit better on a 10.5 for sure. There is bigger in 19's than 295 (325/335/345) but that would require serious mods to tuck in so short of that, that 295 is all you have. I really wish more sizes were avail in 19's

MG, this is a great idea. Unfortunately, if I'm going to purchase new wheels, I'd want to move away from the factory look to a Razor or bullit style wheel. Now if THOSE come available in 18x10.5 or 11", I'd be interested.

Thanks,

Dave

I'm shocked that the manufacturers haven't stepped up and started delivering the goods, in a variety of wider rear street rims for the 2005+ cars. There are a considerable number of street cars, not just Shelby GT500s but also supercharged mustang gts (including the steedas, shelby gts, saleens, roushs, etc etc) running around the streets with over 450 rwhp. Lots of S197 cars getting very questionable traction on the street. Heck, even the v6 guys who want the blown street rod LOOK would buy 10 or 11 inch wide rear rims. And there are plenty of wider 18" tires on the market, but a dirth of rim choices. 20's are nice but I like the ride quality and look of the 18" rims better. Lots of guys are converting their run o the mill Mustang GT with a Shelby GT500 appearance kit that includes all the factory body parts and stripe kits from the Ford catalogue. They'll want 'em too.

I did locate some FR500 rims available through Stage 3 which are 18x10.5 deep dish, in polished aluminum lip and a sandblasted matte grey center, that I ordered for the rear of my GT project car. I have some different tires to try on it and will see how the clearance is on the Shelby as well. They have the proper backspacing and offset. Here's a link:

http://www.stage3mot...cite_Wheel.html

I also tried to attach a pic to this post below, from the Stage 3 website showing the rim style and sizes I ordered....how 7.62 backspacing and +45offset fits on a lowered S197 with a 305 wide tire....

If these fit comfortablly with no mods I will see if 18"x11" will clear, and I will press to see what rim styles we could get in a wider format....

MG, this is a great idea. Unfortunately, if I'm going to purchase new wheels, I'd want to move away from the factory look to a Razor or bullit style wheel. Now if THOSE come available in 18x10.5 or 11", I'd be interested.

Thanks,

Dave

I agree there is a large and growing market for 18x10-11s..

Thanks for the link,Ive been wondering how that rim would fit since its the closest to stock looking wheel for some swappers for the strip. What tire and size do you plan?

I would love a stock looking 18x10.5 if 11 is too much.

I'll take 2 18x11 in factory style if they will fit. 18x10.5 if not. Whatever is the widest that will fit, I'm in.
