They must have had their transporter to move the cars around San Francisco. Many of the streets aren't even connected.
Read the "trivia" link on the Bullitt at www.imdb.com. Some interesting tidbits:
There were two Mustangs and two Chargers used in the movie. Both Chargers and one of the Mustangs were casualties and destroyed. The remaining Mustang was sold to a crew member and is stored in a barn in New Jersey. He wouldn't sell it to Steve McQueen.
Many of the chase scenes were driven by McQueen himself. If the car doesn't have a mirror in the front window it was driven by stunt driver Bud Ekins. Ekins also did the motorcycle stunts for McQueen in The Great Escape.
Robert Vaughn said he liked this role best of all he did.
Good action flick - still holds up.

No kidding? I never knew that. I know Bud Ekins, or should say I knew Bud Ekins. I used to go to the Clubman's (British) Motorcycle Meet in San Jose CA every year and Bud was always there collecting parts for Triumphs and BSA's. The man would get spectacular deals and not just because he was Bud Ekins...because he was a HARD bargainer!
Shoot, last time I saw Bud (probably 10 years ago, he was OLLLLLLLLD. I never knew him when he was young and never knew he could drive a CAR fast. I know about his Motorcycle racing career but had no idea about his car driving skills.
Is Bud still alive? NICE guy, by the way.
EDIT: Just read that Bud died in 2007. I think I saw him in 2005, maybe 2004. I KNOW it was prior to Dec. 2005 because that's when I moved to CO. Probably closer to 2003 when I last saw him and like I said, he was OLLLLLD back *then*!
