One common ailment has been that the radio must be turned off before shutting the car off (turning the key off).  This precedes the off feature of the radio and could cause the "hang time" of thinking that just opening the door turns off the radio, where as the radio still pulls a small amount of power (not knowingly) which drains the battery.

Or not.....

Why do we make is so difficult to "simplify" things???

Use what Mother Nature gave you before Father Time takes it away.

My 2006 CS6 is now on battery # 4 with 40,000 KM on the car....

After the first storage the battery was toast and replaced under warranty, found out I need a battery tender and used one ever since but
still need to replace the battery every couple of years as it is on charge 7 or 8 months out of the year.

If I unplug the tender it is completely dead in about 4 weeks with a fully charged battery... I do this from time to time in between starts
and that seems to help but there is no way around it the car eats batteries..

I now buy my batteries at Costco and they will replace them every couple of years N/C... I have a 1996 that can go 8 months without being started and
my 2010 a couple of months easy

My 2006 H is still on the original battery and going strong.  Every since I started making sure the radio is turned off before I shut the key off, I've never had a problem.  It used to drain and be dead within a couple of weeks before I did that many years ago.  Of course it sits most of the time now with the Shelby Ctech maintainer on it.  However it has been unplugged for the past couple months and no problems.

I do the same think with the battery tender during storage on my 2007 & I `am still running the original battery.

I think the problem is the car sits for way to long before it gets driven...30K of the 40K was put on from 2006 to 2009 and 10K was 2009 to 2015

Each time a battery is allowed to completely discharge permanent damage is done to the cells cutting the life of the battery.

Gene, this has worked for me: before tuning the car of course make sure the radio is off but also unlock the doors.  A double tap on the door lock.  Weird/strange but seems to work.  Now my car stays in a garage as most do.  However, those that are not this would not be an option to try.  Maybe just a coincident but seems to work in minimizing drain on the battery.

When my original battery died about 3-4 years ago, I put in a battery cut off switch. When I park it and put it up on the lift (which is too often) I disconnect the battery. Next time I use it, I reconnect, listen to the radio searching for CDs that are in the changer and then good to go. It seems to have worked for me.

Well another twist to this on going problem. After at least a year or longer I went to start the Hertz this morning and notice the drivers window down about 2 inches. Got in and no key chime then twisted the key and no warning lights and then no turn over. But as I turned the key the window slowly went down but didn't bottom out. I am fairly sure I turned both radios off last week after the trip to Minneapolis. Put the charger on and will wait to later today to start. Please chime in on possible explanations.
