Let me first say that I haven't read through any of this thread yet, so if this question has already been asked or answered I apologize.

Is it possible to use the aluminum scoop from a 427 Cobra as a replacement for the SGT?

No. The curvature of the hood is VERY different.

Any update of the warped hood scoop issue? I also have fading or spotty stripes. My warranty runs out at the end of this month. Any advice would be appreciated.. :happy feet:

Update? What update are you looking for? There is a new version of the scoop, has been for two years, go file your claim. Stripes will likely not be covered.

Maybe lawdude needs to take this on as a class action on behalf of team shelby members and try and resolve this. It continues to amaze me that it is so hard to repair and replace these defects and very few dealers know how to do it correctly. It seems like the only people that get this resolved are the ones that pay the out of pocket expenses.

Shelby should have been more aggressive in establishing select shops that could handle this by providing more technical assistance. It also appears on average to take way too long to get claims resolved.

A real shame and tragedy........... :finger:

Well said. I'm actually embarrassed to take mine to car shows now. She's becoming a nocturnal creature lol.

Did you have your scoop replaced with the latest version?

I think my sig picture below shows pretty clearly that, when done with care following the tips and tricks here, the new scoop and car shows shouldn't be an issue.

I just received my new silver hood scoop today, and was a bit surprised that it did not come with pre-drilled holes. This will be replacing my original scoop on my black 07SGT. The original was attached from underneath with the large bolts.

I am having my stripes painted on (thankfully) and I would like to provide my body shop with some clear instructions on how to attach the new scoop.

I have read through all of the lenghty history on this topic, but was just looking for some tips on drilling of the holes, using the supplied rivets, or perhaps even some rivet nuts or fasteners as some folks have previosuly recommended.

Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for looking at this..

I would call and verify tht the scoops are not coming pre-drilled. That would complicate things but the new scoop is worth it long term.

This is true. I just received my scoop a couple of weeks ago and it came un-drilled. I have been dragging my feet on having this installed. Anybody installed one of these un-drilled scoops. Is this possible to do on your own or does a body shop need to do it. My stripes are fine, Thank God!

Well my answer every so humble is also my 1000th post. Some of us used the rivet nut method, just another type of mount rivet that allows some adjustment. If you will search there is additional info on it, location on where to purchase, and pics. TS Sam used it also, I actually still have his tool if you decide you want to borrow it. Sam goes by "devil bunny"

I just bought a brand new 07SGT with 168 miles on it. Garaged forever. Stripes look as new....scoop...not so much. It's slightly collapsed (dipped) in about the front 1/3 of it. Not enuf to hold water, but close.

Funny thing....I've always heard about this problem, and never saw one up close till #5671 arrived at my door last week.

Well, I am gonna leave it go....it adds patina in my mind. :victory:

I think it may get worse BB, the more it's out in the weather. Soon you will be able to look under it while you're driving.

Washed my new car today for the first time. She has about 300 miles on the odo now.

There's a slight dip in the hood on the drivers side right next to the hood scoop lip. Looks like one of the rivets was torqued a tad much.

Further patina......

It will get worse as the years pass.  For me was a constant source of embarrassment when people noticed, and they will, as it called into question the quality of the overall car and the build materials.  It was an unfortunate choice of materials that SAI worked long and hard to overcome and correct.  I see no reason not to fix it, if parts are available, it's not "patina" to me...it's poor design.    IMHO!

BTW:  Thanks for the walk down memory lane...maybe I'm more sensitive as my scoop had two large dips.

Hahahahahaha!! That's some funny shyt right there!!

I'll let it go for now. I'm not sure there are any scoops left around anyway Jeff.

This car had only 168 miles when I bought it a couple months ago. Never saw much daylight. I have a pretty good head start. :hysterical:

If the scoops are still available from SAI, I'd be interested in one also. Or I may reproduce an exact duplicate out of aluminum or stainless. That would be cool.

I'm interested, but I'll let BIKEBOY have first shot if he wants. If not how much?

I bought a new Scoop from Shelby last July,it cost $175.00. Call SAI first to see if they have any,I would bet they do.This is the newer one that has to be riveted

I'll pass Chris..... but you're too kind buddy! :salute:

Leaving mine....I seriously believe in patina on this car. They all had the problem, therefore everyone will know its "OEM".
