Still waiting to hear Tony Stewart's version of events.  Everyone has spoken except for him.  Hopefully its not over-filtered by his lawyers and PR people, however I'm sure that there has been lots of discussion and prep for his eventual speech and/or press conference.

Why should he say anything at all about it?

One of my very good friends killed another friend in a terrible accident. He's never spoken about it. Why should he?

Why should Tony Stewart?

Big difference.  Stewart is a public figure and with that come certain expectations that your friend would not encounter.  Coupled with the fact that Stewart has always been the first one to run his mouth about how great he is and how stupid everyone else is, he should have no problem whipping up the courage to tell the public and especially his fans his version of the events. I think he will, eventually, and I think the sooner the better.

Stewart to skip Bristol: Tony Stewart has decided not to compete in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway. Veteran driver Jeff Burton, a winner of 21 Sprint Cup races, will pilot the #14 Bass Pro Shops/Mobil 1 Chevrolet SS for Stewart-Haas Racing in place of Stewart for the second straight week. Burton subbed for Stewart last weekend at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn. Burton has 40 Sprint Cup starts at Bristol, which includes a victory in the 2008 Food City 500. This driver change pertains only to Bristol. Stewart's plans for upcoming Sprint Cup races have yet to be determined.(SHR)(8-20-2014)

IMO, the smartest thing Stewart can do is to have his attornies (plural) write out a statement for him where he and everyone is sorry that Ward is dead.  Tony will then say that there is an investigation and he is cooperating completely with the authorities and he will not interfere by saying anything at this time and he will not answer any questions.  He respects the legal process, yadayadayadayada.

Stewart can never say anything on this issue as he WILL be sued.  And he will pay even if it is a settlement and it will be millions so as to resolve the case and allow Stewart to get on with his life and avoid embarassment to himself and his sponsors.  And stewart's attornies are going to remind him of all the times he has lost his temper on and off the track and how it will be used against him in civil court should he decide to fight the case.  And it is wise that he skips Bristol considering how many tempers flare at Bristol.

Chances are STewart will return to racing.  I think he will greatly reduce his extra curricular dirt track activities and confine himself to Sprint Cup, rarely running small events again.  And he will be a changed man in Sprint Cup in the future.  He has experienced a life altering experience.

I think you've pretty much hit the nail on the head.

Yep, I totally agree.  He would be stupid to make *any* comment (statement) from both a criminal standpoint and a civil standpoint.

I agree also. Unfortunately Tony was the guy that hit Ward. The guy right ahead of him almost did. This will be all about a big lawsuit payment in our misguided court system. This would not have happened had Ward stayed with his car instead of dodging traffic on a darkened race track to display his displeasure about making contact with Stewarts car. IMO this was a tragic accident caused by a bad decision. I have seen drivers do the same thing in Sprint cup, Nationwide, and local tracks. Nascar has taken the correct action in enforcing a rule that has been in existence all along. Hopefully other racing venues will do the same thing. I enjoy racing and hate seeing people get injured.
