She Got A Car For Christmas

She got here car for christmas. I hid it at the shop while I added the mods. The shop owner and his wife dropped it off in our neigbhors driveway Christmas Eve, I parked it in front of out home Christmas day. Shirley got up about 4:40am Christmas and I gave her her key.
The work started with fresh engine and transmission oil, then removing the old parts prior to the arrival of the camera. The pictures will help tell the story.

Pics 1-3 Here is where I started taking pics with the wheels shocks off, with new springs. Pic 3 Just didn't look right with all the rust.

Pics 5 - 8 the panhard bar gets installed, pic 8 is a sigh of relief it was colder then a witchs _ _ _ and my hands were frozen - were are the glove when you need them?

Car 1: 07 Shelby GT500 Super Snake - The result of 31 years of not owning a car and living on a Harley
Car 2: 05 F-350 6.0L North of 800 foot lbs of torque and 650+HP at the flywheel
Car 3: 64 Comet 5.0L HO 4 speed Automatic Disc Brakes Power steering A/C 8.8 inch rear-end. Ground up OEM Retro-mod Custom build for my wife
Car 4: 67 Mustang GT Fast Back Bone stock with 289 4Barrel front disc brakes 9 inch rear end - Restoration/ Rebuild pending completion of the Comet
Car 5: 2010 fully loaded Mustang GT Black Edition (wives car) with GT500 suspension and custom engine dress up kit flow master mufflers
Car 6: 64 Harley Davidson  Dual-Guild - Sits on a 65 swing-arm frame kick/ electric start with aluminum inner tin outer sitting on a balance and printed engine. Belt drive dual points, four spark plugs, four coils 52 tooth transmission sprocket for unlimited top end and balanced with a Andrews 1st & 3rd power gear set, 4th is for nothing other then endless wide open throttle. Yes this bike flies. Both wheels have physically lifted off the ground more then once on the freeway at speeds far north of 100mph. It was clocked running not walking away from a pace car pegging it's speedo at 140mph plus.

In 1976 my 1969 428 SCJ Mach I engine and transmission was inadvertently taken to the junk yard on the back of an Army truck and destroyed while I was away from base on assign duty. When I returned, I went directly to the base auto-shop to complete work on my car and was informed what had happened. Since I only had two weeks left in the service, with enlistment papers in hand I went to the Captain of the base explained the situation and asked to have my engine and transmission repairs or replaced. I was told  - "Son, this is the US Military we don't have to do anything"  after a respectful exchange of words - I respectfully informed the Captain I would not be re-enlisting, removed my signature from the my re-enlistment papers and placed them on his desk.  With less then a week left and heart broken I traded the 69 Mach I body for a Harley Davidson and never looked back.

 

After roaming the east coast for over a year I finally found my way home to the west coast where I continued to live on my Harley until that day in 2007 when I stopped at a random dealership and saw my current 2007 Black on  Black Strip Delete Convertible Shelby GT500. It did not take long for that car to get under my skin. After fighting the urge as long as I could, I finally gave in and brought my wife to see this car. She immediately realize that owning this car was inevitable; and started negotiated with the dealership before walking away, because, they would not reduce the price to what was reasonable. 

 

A few weeks later they called and quoted her a reduced price, again she refused. A week after that they called back and agreed on a reasonable price if we would agree to buy the car right then and there over the phone, we agreed.  After a month of negotiations the dealership trailer-ed the car some 120 plus miles to our door step, papers were signed and payment was rendered, thus the beginning of what was to re-fuel a long lost passion with cars that started in 1964 with a brand new 1964 Mustang Inline 6 manual shift.  Then grew years later to embrace the 1967 Shelby GT500 Super Snake; after I saw my first one in 1975 while in the Military. 
 
So if you ever see this car in person and wonder why anyone would go to the effort and expense of modifying a car to the extent this car is modified; the answer is simple. 
After thirty-one years of living on my Harley, Mr. Carroll Shelby was back in the game and designed a car that sparked a long dead and buried passion that had been festering for thirty-one long years, where by I had Zero interest in cars and no desire to even own one. Since I had  a whole lot of catching up to do, and I wasn't a spring chicken anymore; I went at it with the full unbridled busting loose passion and desire that can only come from being bottled up for thirty-one years. 

 

The Skull is from my Harley days the number "13" was later added to my skull patch as a result of everyone continually telling me "You're one lucky S.O.B." which became know as the "Lucky-13 Skull" it is the same logo that is incorporated into the badging on my truck. When the car was in Las Vegas undergoing its Super Snake Conversion, the Lucky-13 Skull didn't quite fit the car so the snake was added while the car was undergoing it's Super Snake conversion to tie the past into the future. At first the Snake was wrapped around the skull, but that didn't seem appropriate due to the fact that I was bitten with the Shelby Cobra fever well before my Harley became a life style. After a few sketches the current design won out, the Snake going through the Skull represents the early Shelby days then is lost inside the Skull representing the Harley days then re-emerges in front of the skull to represent the here and now while honoring past and how it became the present. The logo was placed on the car right after my son and I drove our brand new Super Snake home from Las Vegas. Before there was a rear seat delete kit for our cars I had one built with the logo incorporated on it, at the same time I had a trunk lid dress up carpet made with the same logo. The following year a hood logo was created for a little engine compartment dress up.
 
In 2008 I met Mr. Shelby in person for the first time in Terlingua Texas. I told him my story, shook his hand, thanked him for getting back into the game and designing the Shelby GT500 that rekindled my passion for cars. 
God bless Mr. Carroll Shelby - January 11, 1923 - May 10, 2012 He may be gone, but not forgotten.

The results are not bad
Parts installed:
FRPP Shocks
Springs - lowered the car by 1 inch.
GT500 Adjustable panhard bar
GT500 Lower control arms
Flowmaster exhaust - sounds nice, but I may install the Borla cat back system off the SS.


All replacement oils are Royal Purple - We drove after replaceing the Engine and transmission oil and yes it did make a difference. Improved shifting & excelleration.

The suspension parts greatly improved the handling of the car, it corners better and launches better.

Car 6: 64 Harley Davidson  Dual-Guild - Sits on a 65 swing-arm frame kick/ electric start with aluminum inner tin outer sitting on a balance and printed engine. Belt drive dual points, four spark plugs, four coils 52 tooth transmission sprocket for unlimited top end and balanced with a Andrews 1st & 3rd power gear set, 4th is for nothing other then endless wide open throttle. Yes this bike flies. Both wheels have physically lifted off the ground more then once on the freeway at speeds far north of 100mph. It was clocked running not walking away from a pace car pegging it's speedo at 140mph plus.

In 1976 my 1969 428 SCJ Mach I engine and transmission was inadvertently taken to the junk yard on the back of an Army truck and destroyed while I was away from base on assign duty. When I returned, I went directly to the base auto-shop to complete work on my car and was informed what had happened. Since I only had two weeks left in the service, with enlistment papers in hand I went to the Captain of the base explained the situation and asked to have my engine and transmission repairs or replaced. I was told  - "Son, this is the US Military we don't have to do anything"  after a respectful exchange of words - I respectfully informed the Captain I would not be re-enlisting, removed my signature from the my re-enlistment papers and placed them on his desk.  With less then a week left and heart broken I traded the 69 Mach I body for a Harley Davidson and never looked back.

 

After roaming the east coast for over a year I finally found my way home to the west coast where I continued to live on my Harley until that day in 2007 when I stopped at a random dealership and saw my current 2007 Black on  Black Strip Delete Convertible Shelby GT500. It did not take long for that car to get under my skin. After fighting the urge as long as I could, I finally gave in and brought my wife to see this car. She immediately realize that owning this car was inevitable; and started negotiated with the dealership before walking away, because, they would not reduce the price to what was reasonable. 

 

A few weeks later they called and quoted her a reduced price, again she refused. A week after that they called back and agreed on a reasonable price if we would agree to buy the car right then and there over the phone, we agreed.  After a month of negotiations the dealership trailer-ed the car some 120 plus miles to our door step, papers were signed and payment was rendered, thus the beginning of what was to re-fuel a long lost passion with cars that started in 1964 with a brand new 1964 Mustang Inline 6 manual shift.  Then grew years later to embrace the 1967 Shelby GT500 Super Snake; after I saw my first one in 1975 while in the Military. 
 
So if you ever see this car in person and wonder why anyone would go to the effort and expense of modifying a car to the extent this car is modified; the answer is simple. 
After thirty-one years of living on my Harley, Mr. Carroll Shelby was back in the game and designed a car that sparked a long dead and buried passion that had been festering for thirty-one long years, where by I had Zero interest in cars and no desire to even own one. Since I had  a whole lot of catching up to do, and I wasn't a spring chicken anymore; I went at it with the full unbridled busting loose passion and desire that can only come from being bottled up for thirty-one years. 

 

The Skull is from my Harley days the number "13" was later added to my skull patch as a result of everyone continually telling me "You're one lucky S.O.B." which became know as the "Lucky-13 Skull" it is the same logo that is incorporated into the badging on my truck. When the car was in Las Vegas undergoing its Super Snake Conversion, the Lucky-13 Skull didn't quite fit the car so the snake was added while the car was undergoing it's Super Snake conversion to tie the past into the future. At first the Snake was wrapped around the skull, but that didn't seem appropriate due to the fact that I was bitten with the Shelby Cobra fever well before my Harley became a life style. After a few sketches the current design won out, the Snake going through the Skull represents the early Shelby days then is lost inside the Skull representing the Harley days then re-emerges in front of the skull to represent the here and now while honoring past and how it became the present. The logo was placed on the car right after my son and I drove our brand new Super Snake home from Las Vegas. Before there was a rear seat delete kit for our cars I had one built with the logo incorporated on it, at the same time I had a trunk lid dress up carpet made with the same logo. The following year a hood logo was created for a little engine compartment dress up.
 
In 2008 I met Mr. Shelby in person for the first time in Terlingua Texas. I told him my story, shook his hand, thanked him for getting back into the game and designing the Shelby GT500 that rekindled my passion for cars. 
God bless Mr. Carroll Shelby - January 11, 1923 - May 10, 2012 He may be gone, but not forgotten.

Thanks I wasn't sure if she was going to like it because it is a 5 speed and she didn't want to deal with the shifting.
But once she saw it it was a done deal and when she got in it, well you could pry it away from her, its loaded, it talk and responds to voice commands and drives very smooth.

Nice job!!! I love to surprize them.... how did ya keep a secret that long and yet have time to work on it?!?!?!?

At first it wasn't easy, First off I couldn't tell anyone in our house, the kids would have gave it up, so it was a head banger till I started toying with her.

I'd call her and tell her the owner of the 65 we are restoring wanted to paint his car black and did know what color strip to add, what color would she pic.
Then I told her I wanted to change the name of my car because everyone with a SS had Snake as part of the cars name and through out a bunch of name, Stang -A- Lang stuck, but she started to doubt my intentions and started cquestioning why I was coming home late wanting to know what I was up to. I had to do something, when she decided to take my truck to work instead of her mini and saw the old lower control arm in the back seat and got mad thinking I was buying more parts for my car. Which really set her off since I hadn't been able to FIND her a Christmas present. HEE HEE HEE... I had her believing she wasn't going to get a present.

It was her driving my truck that made it all work. She likes driving my truck not her mini so I offered to give her the truck and told her I would sell the mini and buy a used clunker for me - WOW did she go bilistic on me. She said I was poning off my truck on her so I could buy the new Shelby GT350 HEE HEE HEE..... Boy does she know me or what.

She was so fired up I knew I wouldn't be able to keep it from her on christmas, so I gave her the key before anyone in thje house got up and before she had her cup of coffee.
