When I installed my organic twin disc, I looked at the Ram and the McLeod RST or RXT (can't remember which one).  I was replacing a SPEC 3+ and definitely didn't want anything from SPEC again after dealing with their customer service.

I went with the Ram based on my research and discussions with a couple shops here that utilize the Ram clutches.  MMcGuirk stated that "hands down" that he preferred the  McLeod RST or RXT.   I am as to why he chose that clutch vs a Ram.  Is it personal preference or did I miss something in my choice of the Ram twin disc?

I have had questionable experiences with Spec and Centerforce in the past.  I took GTR's recommendation on the McLeod. McLeod custom builds their clutches for each application.

I now have 30k flawless miles of operation on it.

Thanks,

I ordered it from Lethal Performance and I am having it installed with some other things at Lamotta's Performance. Here is the link.

Thanks Mike.  They are both great clutches from what I have found in my research.  The Ram or McCleod are two great choices.  My Ram has been flawless since it was installed, unlike the SPEC stage 3+.

I heard that Victor Ford, 1451 N Old Rand Rd., Wauconda, IL 60084, servuce dept. phone 847-526-5541, is very good.  The service manager, Matt Wandell, was very knowledgeable about GT500 clutches (and has replaced several) and the dealer also has a performance center that does aftermarket performance work on GT500s.  He did say that the dealer will only install an OEM clutch when working as a warranty repair.  (Other Ford service managers told me the same thing).   He said that the new clutch is completely redesigned and much more suitable for street driving, and fine as long as the car remains stock (HP is not boosted).   The stock clutch is  not as good as a Spec Super Twin SS trim or a McLeod RXT (He called those "premium clutches"), which he recommended if you are going to do a significant boost to the HP.   He said that he could get the OEM warranty parts in one day ( parts availability is no longer an issue).  He also mentioned that the TSB also calls for the tech to check the transmission, which requires a more skilled technician than the clutch replacement.  When you talk to the service dept., make sure you mention TSB 10-3-8 and identify the flywheel as the defective part (as the TSB does), as that is part of the powertrain warranty, which is good for 5 years or 60,000 miles.  I'm going to try to schedule them to do my Clutch / transmission repair next week.  I'll let you know how it comes out.  Anderson Ford Mercury, 1001 State Route 10, Clinton IL, phone 888-715-6487, also has an aftermarket performance center and a good reputation, if that is closer to you.   Hope this helps.

Hey Mike. Let me know how the TSB goes with Victor? They're not far from me so that might be my ticket

I got my 2008 Shelby GT500 back on Friday last week and Victor Ford did a great job.   They put it under the drive train warranty (5 yrs 60,000 miles) because the flywheel (the defective part) is part of the drive train.  I also put in a Ford Racing Shelby GT500 Short Throw Shifter installed at the same time and it is a big improvement over the stock shifter.   Victor Ford's Service Manager and Parts Manager have extensive knowledge of the GT500 parts and the aftermarket parts available for it and sell and install many of them.  I enjoyed talking to them about potential upgrades to my car.

Do you like your McLeod RXT?  Is it worth the extra money oner the OEM (2010 version)?  Is it a difficult install?  How do you find someone who is good at the installation ( in the Chicagoland - Northwest Indiana area)?

I just drove home with the McLeod Rxt in and I agree this should have been the clutch that came with the car. I also had the KR shifter put in also at the same time. It is a totally different car.  :bandance:

I don't know much about all the others but the local clutch grue said to try a RPS BC2 Billet carbon twin. SO I put one in and man what a difference !  Smooth no chatter and makes the tranny shift like a dream.

It's not cheap but you usually get what you pay for.  I went thru 2 Ford twin disc clutches in 7000 miles. Yes they were abused. If you got the funds this seems like a good way to go. I am really happy so far. Oh yea no break in required!!!!!

I just had the clutch in my 08 GT500 replaced with the McLeod RST and billet aluminum flywheel. All I can say is I am more than pleased and the cost was half of what FORD wanted to put back in the same garbage. This clutch definitely gets my vote!

Act ( Advanced Clucth Technology ) makes a very good clutch as well. I have one in my 2008 and love it. Great pedal feel and grabs like no tomorrow.

I'm thinking of pulling my Spec P-Trim out.  Are the McLeod RXT really that good?

My concern is everyone on the forums at the time told me how good Spec were and this clutch is an absolute heap of crap.  It shudders like the car is falling appart, its sending vibration down the entire driveline at low rpm and it just makes such a nice car drive like a pile of crap.

The standard clutch drove so nice in comparison and I only replaced it due to durability concerns.

Does the Mcleod RXT shudder?  Can you slip it when parking etc?  Do you get the same backlash through the drive train that I'm getting with the Spec?

I emailed spec and they said to drive it more, send it back it if didn't come good.  No mention of all the labour costs to install, remove and then re-install it again...

Had Ford dealer in Lafayette put in the RXT and the clutch pedal was hanging up before break in.... I went to Cody at Stang-Hi performance Baton Rouge check it and he put another complete set of the same clutch in so far so good but I still expect to feel teh pedal to hang up but so far so good
The dealer doesn't have an SVT tech.... "but we have a transmission expert." tehy refused the TSB whick is total crap, said it was my driving i told them i have a 89 ford ranger with 205,000 miles on it occasionally towing a cajun bassboat and have the same clutch, I have 27000 miles on my 07 gt500 and still have th same tires and breaks. I called BS but they wouldn't do the tsb. Cody says there is a dealer in Baton Rouge he goes through and they would have done it but the 5 yr warrantee went out. With Cody you get what you pay for and he has done many. He changed the pilot bearing and the throw out too along with the fuel filter. He told one customer ther that my GT500 dyno'd better than any others he has dyno'd.  I was one of his first gt 500 customers. Dyno'd better stock and with the JLT cold air and metco pulley. Said i had a good one. the guys that built my engine did a good job and probably did it on a wednsday. Thought that was kinda cool. Cody is an expert tuner in our area and I would recommend him to anyone. Only took a day to do all the work. He had a 900 rwhp '08 street gt500 on the dyno that had the Whipple 2.9 on it plus a bunch of other mods, way cool.
Where am I going,
and why am I in this hand basket?

Just had the RXT installed.
What a difference over the stock unit !!
This should have been the unit from the factory in these cars.
Never had the TSB done. Dealer told me that if its not broke don't fix it. Th stock unit was letting off almost at the top of pedal travel.
Pedal is light and engagement is quick and down low where it should be.
Just need to get some break in miles on it now.Shouldn't be hard to do that. :shift:

I used Grabbers parts list and installed all of the 2010+ clutch/flywheel and associated components.  I am amazed how great this setup is.  The clutch release is so smooth.  I can not get it to chatter and I can not stall it from a stop.  I am not sure what my HP is but I have the OEM blower, VMP 2.59 pulley, CAI and 91 octane tune.  I just love it.

Mr Grabber or anyone,

Just got back from Afghanistan in Dec and decided to treat myself. Bought an '08 shelby gt500 and received the car on 27 Feb 2013. Car has only 28k miles! From day one the clutch has been really stiff (hard)and hard to go into 1st and reverse sometimes, so i started reading the forums. I found out that there has been many similar issues like mine. My power tranny warranty is about to run out in April 2013.
My question is: Does a car have to be under warranty in order for a TSB to be done and if so can the power/train warranty do it?
Any help eould be great!!! I hate that I just bought the car and would have to py out of pocket to fix this.
