Back before they had nomex for safety, leather was a good as it got.  Personally I always wore penny loafers without the pennies. (LOL)

My old friend Buster Couch was in the video, official starter for the NHRA in the orange shirt pushing the button. Buster was one of the really good guys at the NHRA.

I could watch 2 Hours of this, I love it.  True story:  I live in the St.Louis Area.  The Strip used to be St.Louis International Raceway.  I ran the KXOK Gold Cup with my Mercury Cyclone 1969, the "CJ" or Cobra Jet. The Cyclone CJ had the 428-cid (6997-cc), 335-hp (249-kW) Cobra Jet motor, with Ram-Air. I worked at the Venture Store after returning from Vietnam.  So, my buddy Joe (who became a St. Louis Cop) borrowed some "Recap" Slicks for me.  I went Racing, this was my daily driver, tuned by me.  The final was me and a "Towed" Gran Sport Buick from Texas with all kinds of stickers on it, "Real Slicks" and Sponsors.  I won on a very tight finish and the guy could not believe it.  The only real mod, was I had read that the only advantage between "Headers" and the stock exhaust manifolds was weight.  It was very important to make the dumps a certain lenght off the heads, which I did, thus ran open exhaust.  That and "Hot" plugs and dual point distributor, were the mods.  I was so proud and my wife hated it, still does.  The Class was GS/A the Trophy win was 14.03 at 100.1 MPH.
