I still havent decided if we gonna take I-40 or if we are going to go south to I-10 via I-20. So far the weather forecast is only showing up to the 8th of march, so far the pattern is showing 60s for highs and 30s for low with slim chances of precipitation.
...................keeping my fingers crossed.

We will either be leaving Sunday the 11th or Monday the 12th depending on weather. If I drive 40 will be putting us in Albuquerque at approx 5pm. If we go the southern route, will put us around Los Cruces, NM at approx 7pm.

How many are driving one of these two routes?

El Cholo's is on Whittier Blvd just before the big turn onto Harbor Blvd. Across the street from a McDonalds. It has been around for over 40 years now. They have a big one on Western Blvd. in Los Angeles where all the stars go. mmmmmm, #4 please :)

I still don't know which way to go either, I-10 or I-40, I guess we have to wait and see how the weather is.

Looking at the forecast for both Fort Worth and Albuquerque for Saturday and Sunday I've decided to head out on Monday vs. Sunday. We'll have storms locally on Sunday and looks like Albuquerque may get some snow Saturday night.

Of those taking 40 and headed out Monday, when do you expect to roll thru Amarillo?

The problem with taking a trailer is you end up taking way, way, WAY too much crap!! Honey, do we have room for this? Sure. How about this? Sure. And on and on. Target start time on Wed - 8AM. ACTUAL start time - NOON!

Anyway, stopped the first night in Joplin, MO. Stayed at the Holiday Inn at exit 8A. Highly recommend it, very nice with unlimited parking!

This morning I am waking up in Albuquerque at the Hampton Inn exit 155. Nice hotel but very limited parking. It worked but I probably would not recommend it if you are driving a truck and trailer.

So far road conditions have been fine, some rain in MO and OK, some VERY light flurries last night (NM) but nothing that stuck to the ground. Big problem is OK and TX were so unbelievably BORING! I have never seen so much nothing in all my life. Really makes you wonder why anyone would live there. (which is probably why we saw so few people, DUH!

Truck and trailer are doing great, no problems traffic-wise. Seems like everyone has their cruise control set right at the speed limit +/- 5mph. See very few people pulled over.

Will post again after we hit LAS VEGAS!!!!!!!!!!

Ouch; at least we can see the weather (and the cops) coming at us from miles away!

I'll admit, driving thru the Texas panhandle is less than inspirational. Glad to hear your trip thus far has been uneventful.

We're in Vegas!! I never thought I would hear myself say this, but I am really tired of driving. 1956 miles in 2 1/2 days. I don't think I want to do this again. Lots to cover - roads all the way here were fine, no problems whatsoever. Had some excitement in Albuquerque with some nut in a bus just outside our hotel, but the cops took care of him. Completely shut down the east bound side of I-40, but luckily we were headed west. New Mexico and Arizona was lots more nothing, but nothing done well. More scenic. Important note- if you are driving a truck and trailer make sure your brakes are 100% perfect. There are several long steep downgrades in Arizona with NO escape ramps. Also make sure your car is tied down very securely, there are several places where the road is REALLY rough, especially when you hit the spots at 75 mph! US-93 from I-40 to Vegas was fine, not much traffic, pretty straight and level. If you come in after dark, you will come over a rise and see a literal ocean of lights and you will think, we're here! Unfortunately not even close - you will still have ~ an hour of driving to do. US-93 turns into I-515. From I-515 will need to take I-215 W. Signs imply to stay on the left, but you need to stay right to pick up I-215 W. From I-215 W will need to pick up I-15 S. Be aware the Nevada DOT very thoughtfully put the sign for I-15 S behind an overpass! If you are not already in the right lane, by the time you see the sign it will be too late, so stay in the right lane. Also be aware many of the people around here drive like idiots! I-15 runs right past the hotel. Once you have taken the exit turn left and then right and you are at the hotel. If driving a truck and trailer stay to the left of the covered entrance. Bellhops can take bags from there if you like. To access the parking area drive straight ahead to the stop sign. Turn right and continue as far as you can and our parking lot is on the right. If you do not leave the bags with the bellhop, once you park it will be a hike to get bags to the front desk.
