The Shelby GT is a great, special car because of the pre-title construction at Shelby Autos.  I think the KR's also share that distinction.  A proper Shelby GT should always be constructed & sold in the same manner.

All very interesting comments. We do have a product plan but if everyone who owns or did own a Shelby GT remembers, the core of the car was handling. We all know about the issues. I belive they were lessons learned. Here is what I read and hear: If you do it,
  • Has to handle
  • Is pre-post title a real issue (all cars coming through Las Vegas are modified in Las Vegas) CSM/Badging etc. to some it does. Pre-title would be nice though.
  • No fake hood scoops
  • Better quality stripes or stripe delete avalibility
  • Shifter
  • Exhaust
  • Distinctive looks
Add to the list. There could be a case made for a GTS (V-6) GT (V8). Just listening to what our potential market would like to see if it came to life.

Great discussion and I agree that the Shelby GT should be a different animal from the GTS.  I like the new body style more and more but would not ever trade in 0645 for one.  I think the GTS aspires to fill the niche for a Mustang buyer who wants more than a GT but cannot swing a GT500.  That being said, the package prices are reasonable, but just barely IMHO.  Once you begin to add anything else to the base package it adds up quickly.

I don't mind if another SGT comes along, just better functional parts is all I ask for(cooling ducts, scoops, brakes, gear ratio, adjustable suspension). I say let the SA brand expand. :peelout:

What would be the market threshold for a Shelby GT from price point? Let's take a dream build of what the Shelby GT was:

Open the enitre color pallett and coupe of convertible configuration:
  • Base 2013 5.0 GT 400 A package
  • Track Package (helical 3:73, brembo brake pkg., FR3 suspension, HD radiator, engine oil cooler, 19"x9" aluminum wheels, summer performance compound tires)
  • Short throw shifter
  • Billet grille
  • CS rear fascia/front fascia
  • Ford Racing performance exhaust
  • Adjustable panhard bar
  • Ford Racing front brake cooling ducts
  • Over the top stripes
  • Rear spoiler delete
  • Shelby lettering on the upper trunk
  • Rocker stripe
  • Cold air kit with tune
  • Shelby badging and CSM as was the SGT
  • Painted stripes as an option
What would you expect to pay for the package excluding the Track Package?

How many more variations of the same car are you thinking of making?  What was the point of the GTS, the SA and the GT350?  They all ended up being practically the same car at different price points.  Another Shelby GT dilutes the uniqueness and exclusivity of the car I bought for many reasons. No, I did not buy it for resale value!  If you want to know what I would pay for a "new" Shelby GT, nothing.

Remember in 07 how everyone complained that the upfit from SA was too much cash?

Still funny to me...anyways why not just use the same pricing strategy adjusted for increased costs 5 years later?

And what is wrong with the GTS, I am a little confused?

Or are you thinking 5,000 cars agin out in the desert straight from the rails?

I thought that from a sales standpoint the 07-08 SGT's fell short of expectations?

I would consider a buy if all that was wrong with the 07/08 SGT was fixed - scoop, stripes, power, price point, etc.  Maybe some special deal for current owners as well?

To me, I think the SGT was a bit of a lame duck, which in some respects is good, (you start the mods, we finish to our tastes), but in other respects was bad, (no real recognition - like the GT500).

We all know what we bought initially and what mods we've done to our SGTs since purchasing, and it sounds like that's where you're going.  Find out what we've done or are doing and create a new, out-the-door, version of the SGT with the popular/best aftermarket mods already in place.

As far as price, it has to fall squarely between the GT500 and a high-end standard GT.  I'm thinking that's Boss 302 territory, i.e., Laguna Seca with a Shelby twist.

Vote no for selfish reasons.  The only thing that will happen is to detract from the value of the 2007-08 original SGTs.  That will only cause hard feelings amongst the original owners and we deserve some loyalty.    Then people will sell their 07-08 SGTs to upgrade and bring the price down even more.  How about an in between mod for the 2007/2008.  Less than a SC but add cams, headers, intake, etc.  Bring our HP/TQ to where it should have been from the factory.

Depending on the build numbers it will be just like in 07 and 08. Lots of cars left on the lots well after they arrived for sale. My car was shipped at the end of July 07 and not purchase until Mid Feb of 08. (Luckily mine was a showroom queen). After that there were still numerous 07's still on the car lots being scorched in the sun for months. My vote is go with a different product let the  06 GTH, 07 & 08 Shelby GT stand alone and have thier own place in Shelby History.

No Automatics?
How will the performance compare to the Boss?
With the exception of the badging etc, there would have to be a compelling reason to choose it over the Boss or it's successor; be it price or performance.

For me, a 2012-13 Shelby with BOSS level on track performance at a BOSS price would be the ticket. Give it its own Shelby backed racing history and it will be a winner. I want to buy a Shelby that Shelby actually races.

Items #1 and #2 add up to just under $40K (including Destination Charges) for a 2013 Mustang Premium w/Track Package...
The Initial Price for the GTS Upgrade (V-8) on a 2012 Mustang is $12K...

Right off the bat you are looking at $52K before any of the other "Shelby" performance upgrades...  Not hating on the concept of a "new" SGT because I just traded mine in on a BOSS...  But I do like the fact that FORD and others actually use the BOSS 302 (R and S models) as a Race Car on a weekly basis...  And if I want or need replacement performance parts, they come right off the shelf from FRPP...

Lots can be said of the old adage "Race on Sunday, Sell on Monday"...  Just sayin'

Well as they say "sleep on it "so I did and I say  NO !!! Let's see what's on the market  (1 )GT500 650hp, (2) Boss 302 444hp ( 3) .Mustang GT loaded Boss options. The GT500 will be the talk of the town with very few takers for a Shelby GT ( baby Shelby again ). So why go down that road ? Your  50th annv. Shelby and the 1000 hp Gt500 will keep you busy, don't you think ? On paper a Shelby GT looks good but there is no maket @ this time for one. Don't forget the ZL1 and 392 also coming to market.

I'm now wondering if the GTS is bombing on sales and was a mistake.  Roger does make some good points in what the car should have along with others.  No scoops this go round or why not do a CDC shaker system with cold air induction.

I honestly think its a terrible idea. Like said by someone else. I think that us SGT owners deserve a little loyalty, and making new pre-titled SGTs ever couple years is not that at all. That will only devalue our 07-08s (which are finally starting to settle) as some of us sell to upgrade. At some point making a buck or two off our nameplate can't be worth hurting the values of already loyal Shelby owners, just to gain a few more.

Shelby Auto can make anything they want. but please for the love of God, call it something else!

P.S. I don't matter if they make a new Shelby GT or not, in the looks department it can not hold a candle to ours.

Edited by michschi, 05 May 2012 - 07:54 PM.

That is why we have company cars, so we don't have to drive ours that way!

Resales Values....... I may piss off a few people but, the old man never built a single car on the idea it would be valuable to some person in the future with too much money. The idea/hope that any of the modern Shelbys will increase in monetary value is lost on me.

Drive, race, customize your car. Don't worry about it's resale value, Shelby will build more. That's kind of their business model.
