Shelby Canada Run

We're planning a 2013 Shelby drive from Ford's Dearborn WHQ across beautiful eastern Canada.  Our proposed run will take us across the Blue Water bride at Port Huron/Sarnia as we drive through Ontario and into Quebec. Such stops may include Quebec and Montreal and we drive along the scenic Kings Highway and along the St. Lawrence River on our way through New Brunswick and into Halifax, Nova Scotia.

As we gather at Halifax's Port 21, we'll prepare for a stunning drive about the Cabot Trail, which is rated one of the top drives in the world.

Here's where we need your comments, opinions and suggestions into making this drive across eastern Canada into reality.  Where should the route run through?  Where should the stops be at?  Are there notable stopping points? Can this drive be tied into existing events? What hotels? Etc. . . .?

It would be very scenic to drive along the St. Lawrence River and also stopping in cities such as Montreal, Quebec City and Fredericton.  Mike Hickey (CobraRacing) also though Niagara would also make another nice stop.

Thoughts?

This would be a great idea! You can count me in. In terms of an itinerary, it all depends on the how many days this event would be planned for. The itinerary shown on Robert's map is for the most part comprised of 4 lane highways. It is certainly the most direct route and the quickest way to do it. Quebec City is right in the middle, and from Dearborn, I know from past experience that it can be done in a day of non-stop driving without problem.

Having said that, this isn't necessarily the most scenic road. For instance, if we wish to have a good look at the St-Lawrence River, it is better to take Route 138, North of the St-Lawrence River, from Montreal to Quebec City, and then either continue on that Route in the Charlevoix region and take the ferry accorss the St-Lawrence River, or cross the bridge at Quebec City and use Route 132, South of the St-Lawrence River and from there go to New-Brunswick. I would also tend not to do a straight line from Toronto to Montreal and add a stop in Ottawa (maybe some track time at nearby Calabogie). I'm sure members from Ontario, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia can chime in and suggest other scenic roads and interesting stops. For instance, the Cabot trail is a great scenic road in Nova Scotia, but it's North of Halifax, on the Cape Breton Island, and would add some mileage to the trip. Mike's idea of a stop in Niagara is also a good suggestion.

It all depends on how many days this would be planned for, and whether the emphasis is put on driving lots of miles every day, or doing shorter distances and enjoying the scenery. Once this has been decided, it will be easier to determine the itinerary and the stops and make more precise suggestions. I would certainly be willing to contribute some ideas and help planning the Quebec portion of this event.

I'm in for the scenic route along the St. Lawrence river - the more scenery the better.

The amount of total driving days is really important because in most instances, you're going to have to double it due to the drive back.  With that being said though, I cannot image this drive being conducted under 4-5 days.

Canada is a really beautiful country and I look forward to seeing more of it. :)

Sounds like a great adventure!  Count me (hopefully "Us") in for the journey!  Lots to see!
I would love to see Quebec City - The pictures are amazing.  It looks like a city from old Europe was transplanted into North America.

We tossed around a few ideas and I like the scenic route as well, the theme of the event is a cruise and seeing the nicest cities and sights is what the plan is

I like Niagara falls as a lay over (close to Ford Oakville and Casino) or a starting point depending on where everyone wants to meet with a meet and greet

Montreal is around a 6 hour drive from Niagara and a scenic drive up from the 1000 islands would be great with lunch around Gananoque and stay in Montreal

Quebec city is another 3 hour drive so and very scenic, I am sure we will be able to stage a few photo shoots along the way and this leaves us time to explore Quebec city a little

Fredricton the next day is another 6.5 hour drive with a lunch break in between and 5 hours on to Halifax the next day

Peggy's cove lighthouse, Pier 51 are all nice to see and set up shots

I had a thought about a true street challenge when we get there, a 1/4 mile drag race on the tires that you drove to Halifax on with an award to the fastest 3 (or something like that)
for those travelling back I was thinking driving to Boston and then back to the starting point (9 hrs per day)

Love to hear about some other ideas along the way, stop overs, scenic photo ideas etc

Since 2008, Team Shelby had planned to do a drive across Canada, at least the eastern part. . .it just never happened.

To make this a success, I think it's going to depend on members who live in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia to help plan and execute this to make it a reality.

We need to keep in mind though that people can start at different points and join the drive from different points. Although this will not be a timed event, we should produce route cards and some type of souvenir for those who complete each stop though - like Terlingua.

Thoughts?

Target date?? Season? Early fall to take advantage of the colors???

Please post a month/quarter you'd be shooting for! This would be worth the drive up from NC if I can plan for it far enough out, because it looks like I would need to plan a full two weeks.

Subscribing......

Edit:
Showed Kim this thread, she says we're in....

I will finally be able to fulfill a promise I made to someday take her to New England. Just doing a quick check of the route will be approximately 3,500 miles round trip!
