Sorry could'nt help, but noticed that you say in your 04 convt. black cobra ran 7's with 616 hp, how is that so. You would have to have 1200+hp at the rear wheels to do that. :redcard: Unless I misread the info about your old car at the bottom of your post.

Im just curious. For the 18-25 age owners, how did you afford such a car? Not bashing you if your parents paid for it, but at that age I couldnt afford the insurance, let alone the car. To put a car this powerful in the hands of an 18 year old is dangerous. Just wondering.

I think the better words to choose would be, *To put a car this powerful in the hands of an 18 year old CAN be dangerous.* because in fact to put a car this powerful in anyones hands CAN be dangerous let alone to put any car in anyones hands CAN be dangerous.

I had a 5.0 brand new when I was in the Navy at 19 and almost lost my license a few times, need for speed :speedie: My insurance at that time was high and on E-3 pay I was living to pay for the car but loved every minute of it and was single. Now that I'm thinking of it, it was like having a wife? :hysterical2: Couldn't imagine insurance for 18-30 now, I have a good record 40 and married to a 49 yr old and mine still seems a little higher than it should. :banghead:

At age 17, I had a 65 Impala SS that I put a 427 in. L-88, Phase III in :redcard: . If I remember right, they were rated at 550 hp or thereabouts. Really fast car. Bias ply skinny tires of the time made for easy burnouts. Before you ask, I paid for it myself, had two part time jobs and high school too.

My neighbors hated me. I was too dangerous. :hyper:

Well that is pretty much how I guessed the poll would go. Majority by a slim margin go to the 40-49 year olds and a close second goes to the baby boomers 50-59. I was surprised to see 7 woman so far, but not in a negative way. Any analysts here with a theory? Of course mid life crisis plays a small part but I honestly believe growing up in the 60's and 70's without being able to afford a "Shelby" and always wanting one is a big part of it. Just my .02 cents......

Hit the nail on the head :banana piano:

Baby boomer here who grew up driving all those muscle cars and have always loved cars since I was big enough to "help" my Dad work on the family cars that are some of today's classics! Have loved Mustangs since my best friend's Dad drove their new (novelty 2nd family car in those days) 1965 coupe home from work one hot summer day back in 1965. The first car I bought was my 1969 Mach 1 when I got my first real job and he is still in my garage. Now with all my kids almost out of the house and off the payroll, I wasn't gonna miss the Shelby this time around! Passed on the muscle care fever to my Hubbs and daughter but they went to the darkside :hysterical2:

Hit the nail on the head :banana piano:

Passed on the muscle care fever to my Hubbs and daughter but they went to the darkside :hysterical2:

What is the "dark side"? Is this where Darth went? I hope not Chevy or God forbid Rambler? :sos:

Because it is a poll. If someone votes it goes to the top even if they don't comment.

 Thanks....

Im just curious. For the 18-25 age owners, how did you afford such a car? Not bashing you if your parents paid for it, but at that age I couldnt afford the insurance, let alone the car. To put a car this powerful in the hands of an 18 year old is dangerous. Just wondering.

When I was a young man, I was always mad that the only guys who could afford the fastest cars were too old to actually enjoy them. Then I found a way to get lots of power affordably. At age 18, dad gave me his 1972 Chevy Nova and I installed a 427 L71 V8 (tri-power) from a 1966 Corvette modified to the tune of roughly 550hp at the crank (talk about a scary ride - especially with drum brakes and bias-ply tires!). At age 20, I bought a 1968 Pontiac GTO. Balanced & blueprinted, it made 425hp at the crank. Great daily driver and weekend bracket racer. At age 23, I bought a brand new 1989 Mustang 5.0L LX Sport 5-speed. Installed 3.73 gears immediately and minor mods. Not nearly as powerful as the Nova or GTO big blocks, but a lot of speed in a light package anyway. Totalled that car in a nasty (read: stupid me!) wreck in 1994 with 107K miles on the odometer.

Of course, now that I'm old enough to afford fast, new cars I worry about young drivers getting ahold of these kind of cars. Yes, I'm hypocritical, but today's musclecars are much more powerful than most of those built in the glory years of big block muscle. But, even some of us old guys wreck our toys so it isn't fair to generalize about young drivers.

Current Ride: 2014 Mustang GT Glass Roof Coupe. Ruby Red with the 6R80 automatic.
Mods: 4500 rpm Circle-D converter, Bama tuned, 1-piece aluminum driveshaft, BMR driveshaft loop.
Performance: Best 1/4 mile: 12.22 @ 111+ on a 1.66 sixty foot.
Prior Toys: 2011 Mustang Brembo GT Coupe, Vortech SuperCharged 2007 Mustang GT, 2003 Mustang Mach 1, 2000 Mustang "Spring Feature" GT, 1968 Pontiac GTO, 1972 Chevy Nova with 1966 Corvette L71 Tri-Power 427 V8 engine, 1989 Mustang 5.0L LX Sport, several other Mustangs, several Thunderbirds, etc.
