Gentlemen,

My 550 Whipple Supercharger kit is installed under the stock hood. I did not lower my engine nor have engine mounts. I did have to remove the insulation blanket because the pully rubbed otherwise.

Andy, not sure about the hood as I bought mine with it already done, but you are correct on the strut tower bar. However, that has more to do with the addition of the SC and not the actual spacing under the hood...

nothing to correct there Andy.
Lowering the engine becomes a mighty expensive proposition. They (Tasca) used the adjustable poly mounts on mine when they installed the 10 Rib system. When they put the longer snout on the blower it hit the insulation, the poly mounts dropped it just enough to still clear the stock hood.

When you say lowering the engine becomes an expensive proposition...what kind of costs and items are involved in lowering the engine?  Sorry if this seems like a novice questions, but if the shoe fits.....??  You can PM me or email if you'd rather not broadcast the info (andy@andyjabaley.com).

thanks,
Andy.

Its not that big of deal to add lower engine mounts. I have them and will install them when we do the Shelby 8 qt oil pan and the Shelby K member......at that time I can add the Shelby deepdraw hood which has been sitting in my garage for a few years

My 550 Whipple fit just fine under the hood with the blanket. I did indeed have to remove the strut brace from Shelby.

Peter was competely incorrect when he stated that the hood needed to be changed out to fit the Whipple. He stated that he bought his car used with the Whipple and a AFTERMARKET hood on it so he assumed the AFTERMARKET hood was needed to clear the Whipple which is far from reality.............The stock hood will fit the whippe with NO problem

I removed the hood blanket on my stock hood since the pulley was slightly rubbing on it. Its also recommended in the Whipple manual to remove the hood blanket....I assume it traps way too much heat under the hood and the blanket will slightly rub on the pulley.

I bought the Shelby deepdraw hood and the one I was sent will NOT clear the Whipple unless I install the lower engine mounts. Supposedly Shelby has a newer version of the deepdraw hood that will clear the Whipple...........

YES the factory strut tower brace does need to be removed.

I love how people love to get on here and can't wait to tell others their wrong. Even when that person says they are not 100% sure and that he bought it as is. I did not ASSUME anything, it was what I was told by people on this very site... Damn, really sad when others look to show someone up when they only read part of a post, or ASSUME certain things that just aren't true or what that person is trying to say...

I believe he meant the hood insulation.  The hood blanket is stowed in the trunk for special occasions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As for being an aftermarket hood, if the SS hood from Shelby is after market and not the real thing, then I guess so.... I did not ASSUME anything, it was what I was told by people on this very site... Damn, really sad when others look to show someone up when they only read part of a post, or ASSUME certain things that just aren't true or what that person is trying to say...

Most of us come on here to learn and want accurate information. If someone posts something that is inaccurate thats not very helpful or postive to the forum.

If you have a REAL SS hood on your SGT than you are the only one I know of that has a SS hood on a SGT. Now you have me extremely interested.......could you post a picture of the Shelby SS hood on your SGT?

Sorry I was away for awhile.... I'm not afraid to post anything..... although maybe I should be! :hysterical:

I have read, and I will try to find where, that you will need a new cross-member (i think) and motor-mounts (trans included) to drop the engine far enough to be able to use the stock strut brace. Of course the issue was then brought up about disrupting the pinion angle once you drop the engine... and so on. Like Peter has said... this is what I was told by people on here. Since I can't verify it right now, I don't want to be held accountable.

From what I've found, you need motor mounts AND k-member spacers to accomplish that Posted Image

My post was not first hand knowledge, but I remember talking to people that had it done and I think I spoke with someone at tasca that told me how they've done it.

I don't like the idea of messing with the suspension and driveline geometry for what to me is a cosmetic issue since most people aren't going to notice the difference of having a brace vs not having it.

I'm sorry Jason I should have removed all the quotes... my bad! But I'm pretty sure this holds true. And for the record I agree with ya, you're just asking for trouble when you start moving stuff around like that. They have tested the cars with a professional driver both with and without the strut brace and there was no noticable difference. When Ford made these cars they knew it was going to be driven hard so they beefed up the welds and double checked everything. In my opinion the brace really isn't necessary, but it does look good!

i put a whipple 550 kit on mine was thinking i would like the gt/sc decals but i think that would be false advertising.  Just consider your self lucky you have a sweet ride, go out and enjoy it!  Who cares about the stickers.  Just my opinion though

Sheby GT/SC side stripes are for little girls? Is that because you dont have them or your car is a GT/SC clone or tribute? Either way.....not a well thought out statement.

It's probably because the stickers don't actually make the car any better.
