OK, is it worth replacing the stock brake lines with SS ones?  I know on some older cars the lines expand when you apply the brakes really hard adn you get less braking. Not sure about the GT500.  Also, not sure how difficult this is to do.   Being as the only thing you want to work better than the super charger are the brakes, I want to be darn sure they are working to their fullest.

Advice I received when I asked this question a few years back was yes, replace the lines with SS ones.  It's not expensive and it's easy to do.  Small price to pay for extra safety.

Whats the benefit of doing this swap? Is it just that SS ones won't overheat or anything like that?

I used Earl's.  They were definitely worth it.  Gave a firmer pedal.

I don't believe it has anything to do with overheating. With hydraulics it is all about pressure and where that force is applied. Rubber hoses expand under pressure , so when you press on the brake pedal part of the hydraulic pressure goes into expanding the rubber hoses (hence the squishy pedal). With stainless lines or reinforced low expansion rubber like the BOSS 302 brake line kit (which by the way sell for about $100 in the Shelby Parts Store) that force which normally would be expanding rubber brake lines is now being applied to the brake pistons resulting in a firmer pedal.

Mark

Oops, forgot to add that this will be one of my upgrades next time I flush the brake system. I'm looking at the BOSS 302 kit as a less expensive alternative to the $200+ stainless line kits.

I think I was also be going the boss 302 route. I always rather go with ford or FRPP parts for mods if I can.

+1 on the J & M pieces. I used them on a SGT and they are OEM fit and excellent quality.

I'm also happy with the Boss 302 lines that I put on my street driven GT500.

Has anyone used the TPS Motorsports SS lines? They're half the price of the Steeda, Goodridge and J&M.

What was the difference in pedal feel with the boss 302 lines? It kinda feels with the pedal now you have to push it a bit to really engage the brakes. I was hoping that maybe changing the line would make it so that the moment I push it the brakes instantly or engage or do stainless steel and the boss 302 lines not do this? And when they say they make the pedal feel firmer do they mean then we have to push harder for our cars to brake the same amount as before?

I would say the Boss 302 brake lines provide a modest improvement over stock. They aren't expensive and they were relatively easy to install when I was flushing the brake fluid. I don't track my GT500 so I stayed with factory parts. In my experience the brake pads make more difference in pedal feel than the brake lines. Performance pads should have higher initial "bite" and greater friction so they change the pedal pressure required to slow the car.

I, too, am looking to go with SS brake lines (winter project). +1 on this thread. While J & M & Earls both sound good, Goodridge were awesome on my Harley. Since tthey're established in this industry, I'm leaning towards them (Goodridge). I love my Hawk pads!  Zero fade @ Summit Pt. during the 50th.

if your on the front straight heading for the first turn at some where between 120 to 130mph with your foot to the floor.....   the first brake cone comes up and you hit the brakes for all their worth and you have rubber lines you can feel give in the pedal.. a set of 4 goodridge later and their is no modulation in the pedal thats when you know.
