Nice!  Congrats on the deal.  I could tell for sure that the damage was not bad at all and the miles had to be close.  Good to hear that it all checked out as I thought it would.  I would be happier if I won the auction, ha...ha..., but glad to see that it is going to somebody who is putting it back right.  Please post pictures as it comes along.

Not trying to sound rude didn't respond to the question about what i bought it for because i really didn't feel that it needed posting on the forum, i will say this, that over time i have bought several cars off of Copart and you have to be very careful what you buy.  I don't have a bodyshop but a friend of mine does, and that is how i went thru college is buying builders driving them a few months and then selling them.  I will say this, the car went thru Copart as a REGULAR mustang not a Hertz Car so i was able to buy it very reasonable.  If you all like I will post pics as it is being repaired.  I am going with all genuine ford parts and Shelby parts to it will be fixed correctly.  The good news is on the car it looks much worse than it actually is.  The frame is not bent at all on the car car.  The radiator core support had a bad day but the rails are straight and true, didnt even break the windshield.  Triped the drivers airbag but those arent a big deal to fix.  already have the old support out, we put it on a frame machine used tram guages and everything crosses out within specs :)  Here is the kicker it damaged the core support but did not damage the condensor so the AC still has a full charge but it did some the radiator.  Luckly I upgraded my 07 to a C&R radiator so i still have my radiator from that vehicle.  Biggest problem is finding a reasonable price on that bumper cover My cost from Ford is $625 and a can get a reman for $300 but that is the difference going with good quality parts, instead of reproduction.  There is a difference.  I just need to find a set of Gold Stripes if anyone has some.

I totally understand on keeping the buy price quietly, I just see cars for bid real cheap and wondering how real is the possibility of getting a good deal or do the cars sell at what they say the value on the street is.

I mean its not a big deal and my thoughts of a good buy on something are totally off what someone else may think is a good buy. In the end as long as we re all happy with our purchases that's all that matters and this one is gonna be a keeper :)

I was certainly going to, but my buddy ended up not having the right copart credentials to bid in MO, so I wasn't able to.

When I talked to the original owner he was trying to get signed up to bid but couldn't get it in time. Good news is that I did save the car from being sent over seas the person bidding against me was from Lebanon. Nothing against Lebanon but glad I got to keep the car in the USA

Well here is an update will load photos soon.  Car is at the paint shop.  I am having the stripes painted on.  Car is all straight.  Just talked to the shop today they are swearing up a storm about taking off the old stripes...  Car should be done next week.  Like i said very minor damage.  Rear tires are bald have new rims and tires coming so i am going to do the mother of all burnouts on the old tires before i swap them hope i can get a photo of that as well.

Nice!  Yea, those stripes are really hard once they've been burned in.  Sounds like you are going to have one heck of a car for a great price.  Congrats.

I'm bummed that I didn't get it, but very glad that another enthusiast like you did and got her put back together!  Did you also take some photos of pre-fix that you can post up?

It's a shame these f'n stripe jobs are costing so much time, money and aggravation just a few short years into the lifespan of these cars.  My car's stripes are going to cost me an extra $1000 just in removal costs to make it ready for paint.  What a colossal fail.  My brother has a '96 Indy Ram Truck that still has the original vinyl stripes on it.  NO ISSUES.  My Mom's original '85 IROC has plenty of decals - NO ISSUES.

I think I would find another paint shop if I was being charged an extra $1,000 to sand off the baked stripes during a repaint.

If I wanted the car prepped to reinstall more vinyl - yes about $1000+.  Windshield and rear window has to come out - manual stripping, repairing/leveling stripped/damage paint, block sanding, painting, clear coat.  Tons of labor involved here to do this the RIGHT way due to the damage.  That's why I'm going all the way and having it completely redone with painted stripes and more.

A grand for the labor to remove, polish and replace baked vinyl stripes is more than reasonable. But for a paint shop to charge you an additonal $1,000 while performing a repaint when they are already going to hit the car with a DA sander, thats where my comment of finding another painter comes in.

You can post photos in your gallery on this site and then link them to posts on here, or what I do, is load the photos into Photobucket and then link them to the posts here.  Basically, the photos need to be on the internet somewhere before you can click the litte photo button above to link them.

I would strongly advise NOT to go with the vinyl route.  Research how many people have redone their stripes on the SGTs and Hertz cars MULTIPLE times in a very short time frame.  Your car is already being repaired from original - might as well do it better and have the stripes painted on.  I doubt it will cost significantly more than the vinyl but will last a whole lot longer and be much more enjoyable to own and maintain.  Despite what some may think, I also believe that if done well it will enhance the resale value  of your car down the road.  Afterall, how many $100K++++ 60's era Shelbys are being restored with clear coat paint jobs and cleared over stripes.  Doesn't seem to hurt the value one bit, but rather enhances it.
