Wanting to drive my 07 Shelby GT from Atlanta to Memphis for Christmas visit with family and friends.  Anyone have any good reasons why it is not a good idea to drive the car?  I only fear objects being possibly thrown from vehicles ahead of me on the interstate nicking the front of car. I have confidence in the car and it's fitness for a 1000 mile round trip over a week.  Only has 10,000 miles on it now and running great. Any advice?

Other than weather related problems or worrying about what's happening to it when it's parked out of your sight I see no reason why you'd have any concerns.  Enjoy the trip :)

If you're worried about chips on the front end get one of the front end bras that Gary Disney makes for shelby. They actually work very well for a trip like you are planning.

I did a trip this year - the Team Shelby NE 50th event, CT to WV and PA. Had no problems. For your trip, however, I'd be concerned about ice and/or snow.

I'd say go for it! They aren't flowers...

I drove from Jersey to Vegas for the 50th in March. Everyone told me I was nuts. I had a clear bra and new F1's.

Ran into snow, rain, sleet and sand storms. The car handle surprisingly good in the snow. Just take it slow and give plenty of space for stopping. Triple the normal space.

Be safe and Merry Christmas!

Weather.com has a Christmas forecast for each city, Atlanta & Memphis - based on that current forecast, it does not appear that you would encounter worse than rain.

For me, its showing rain AND snow - hopefully more snow!

I guess I don't understand.  Instead of reasons NOT to drive it, I can think of a dozen reasons TO drive it.  It's not delicate!  It's a Mustang!  I've gotten a couple of chips and nicks, even a parking lot ding on the GT 500.  However, I've never regretted driving it on a single trip I've taken!  Not only do you get to enjoy the adventure in your favorite car, but you get countless comments from the people you have thrilled by just seeing it on the street.  We've driven it from KY to Myrtle Beach, SC, Panama City, FL, and several times to the Smokey Mountains.  I've got 35000 on my 07 and don't regret a one!  Drive it!

I would be concerned about weather.  Other than that I would do it.  I've driven mine on several long trips.
Las Cruces to LA, Las Cruces to Denver then to Grand Canyon and back down to Las Cruces.  Then I drove from
Las Cruces to Maryland.  I'd have kicked myself if I had shipped or towed it.  It's a fun car, enjoy it.

They say a picture is worth a 1,000 words...

Attached File  IMAG0048a.jpg   156.05K   82 downloads

This was taken near the TOP of Vail Pass (10,000' Elevation) on the 1,400-mile, 2-day drive home from the 50th BASH last March...

Trailer loaded with 1,500 # of catering equipment...  Averaged 18 MPG while cruising at 75 MPH...  Basically a "stock" SGT with Brembos, 4.10-gears and an 87-Octane "Highway" tune from Brenspeed...

And that was after a full weekend of Bash Activities (Shelby Run, Poker Run, Open Track and 2x Car Shows)... MEM to ATL should be a piece of cake :happy feet:

Hope everything works out for you on the trip.  When I go on a winter trip, I take my Dodge Ram 2500 with 4 wheel drive.  I never worry about the weather or anything else.
