jerseygator:  You and I exist on different planets.  I would NEVER subject my Shelby to what you do to yours.  A high horsepower rear wheel drive car is just plain dangerous on snow and ice regardless of the tires you have.  I actually felt physical pain looking at your engine compartment after the dust storm.  After seeing you post, I went out to the garage and reassured my Shelby that she had nothing to worry about.  As long as I am alive, that will NEVER happen to her!

Not that it added any more HP...  But I did leave the trailer connected to the receiver hitch when I ran my SGT on the Dyno at S.A.M.  And YES, there is even a video to prove it :camera:

I'd say go for it! They aren't flowers...

I drove from Jersey to Vegas for the 50th in March. Everyone told me I was nuts. I had a clear bra and new F1's.

Ran into snow, rain, sleet and sand storms. The car handle surprisingly good in the snow. Just take it slow and give plenty of space for stopping. Triple the normal space.

Be safe and Merry Christmas!

Tony,

I agree with you 100%.

I like to look at it during the week in the garage, but on the weekend, she is going to be driven.

And if I have the opportunity to drive it during the week, I will do that also.

jerseygator:  You did a good job cleaning up the mess.  The problem with winter driving (with any vehicle) is that no amount of washing and cleaning can get the corrosive road treatment chemicals out of every crack and crevice on the car.  That is why I use my workhorse vehicles for bad weather driving.  The Shelby goes out in good weather.  Fortunately, here in FL we have lots of great weather (especially during the winter).  Take a look at the ten day forcast to Tampa.  I will be driving the Shelby a lot!  http://www.weather.c...L USFL0481:1:US  By the way, I just put coat #17 of Liquid Glass on the Shelby yesterday.

Been living on the Sun Coast since Jun 2008 and loving every minute.  Would not go back to the Northern tier for a $1M per year job.  I have been serioulsy thinking about entering the Shelby in the Silver Springs show.  I have been working on the finish and engine compartment for a while and I think I might have a chance at a trophy.  I have to clear the calendar entry with the Chief of Staff and Principal Social Scheduler (wife) first.  What part of FL do you call home?

Drove mine from NY to Vegas, it was awesome. These cars love road trips - the seats are comfy, decent mileage, and maybe even meet some cool folks with your "conversation starter" at gas stations, etc.

BTW, I used it as a DD in the NY snow for 3 years - 100 mile roundtrip commute to work 6 days a week in NY Metro traffic. Rear wheel drive is FAR better than FWD in the snow, just do it with the right tires (Bridgestone Blizzaks, Dunlop Graspics, etc...).  Of course, if you don't know how to drive in the snow, all bets are off. I passed LOTS of Hummers and Yukons and other 4X4s sitting in ditches.

Bottom line: Enjoy your car.

After all of these testemonies, driving the Shelby sounds like the winner. I am suprised that know one ever mentioned a man that is a legend in his own right, whom is the origional owner of a 289 silver Cobra that he has raced with and drives the car anywhere. Hank Williams. His little Cobra is possibly the second most expensive Cobra; Carroll Shelby's being the first, Hank's unrestored Cobra does have its scars and still has a value that surpasses any of our expectations for the value of our own cars. Bottom line is, like Mr. Williams does with his special Cobra, drive your cars. Forget about the value. Let the public decide that for you if the time comes to ever sell. I always thought with my car, a life time of memories using my car is worth more to me than trying to make a sale. I would drive my car weather it is worth $500.00 or $100,000.00. The Bashes, track time, family trips, weekend cuises, or even a little drive to the market! Drive your cars! Sure, staring at the car in your garage like new condition may make you feel wonderful, but read about the Euro Bash and see the pics. Looks more fun to me, the friendships and memories that were made on that trip! No dreaming about it for them, they lived it! Wheels are round for a reason and the clock never runs backwards. Enjoy life. I know life can be stressful, I choose not to stress over one of the things in my life that I enjoy, so I drive it! Like the song says, "Life is a Highway". My $.02

Hope you enjoyed the dragon, we had a great time there.

The only real concern I have in driving the GT500 on a road trip is tractor trailer tire carcasses on the road.  We see them often here and I shudder to think what damage it would do if I ran over one!  Hmm, same goes for my truck or van too!  Other debris and organic matter don't bother me too much, but the tire shreds worry me!
