Why can't SPP give CSM number to all GT500 of 2008 and 2007.

These car were done with the blessing of Mr.Shelby...

I'd love to get a CSM number for my car so I could put it on the dash plaque.

So can anyone tell me why? I'd like to know and understand.

thanks

Your car was built by Ford. If you want a CSM you have to send it to Shelby for an upgrade package. You may not agree with the process but thats the deal these days.

Simply because it is a Ford Motor Co. production vehicle licensed with the Shelby name, not a Shelby American, Inc. car that would have a CSM number assigned to it. Now if you sent it there to be made into a Super Snake or Shelby 1000, then you would get a CSM tag reflecting that pedigree. At least that is my view.

I think you can get a dash plaque. It will have your VIN but no coveted CSM.

CSM #'s are only for Shelbys that have visited Vegas, Tasca, Sean Hyland motorsports, and that other place that was in Texas.

The CSM #'s are equivalent to about $5,000. :shoppingcart_:

You can get the dash plaque from Shelby American with the VIN on it. The "T88S" in the GT500 VIN designates it as a genuine Shelby & 5.4 engine.

Well to start, SPP does not and never has issued CSM numbers. CSM numbers are issued by Shelby American.

As others have mentioned, CSM numbers are only issued to cars built/upgraded by Shelby American or one of our authorized MOD shops. The 2007-08 GT500's that you reference in your post were built by Ford on Ford's assembly line in Michigan, hence because they were not built or upgraded by SAI they receive no CSM number.

In the past there were several packages available from SAI that included a CSM number but as of right now the only package available to you that would include a CSM number would be the coveted Super Snake package. You may learn more about the Super Snake upgrade by visiting www.shelbyamerican.com or by calling our sales department at 702-942-7325

Hope this helps.

Steve

For clarification, NONE of the Shelby Mustangs are "built" at Shelby American. They are "modded" and that is all.

This topic has been discussed before, but its also why in the long run, a Shelby with a CSM will be valued higher and more desireable than the Ford Factory GT500. A great car reegardless

maybe, maybe not. time will tell. if nothing else it will probably be influenced heavily by availability and nothing else. i find ironic that the same vehicle manufactured by Ford and modified by Shelby American is considered any 'better' or more valuable than the same vehicle that was re-engineered to a much higher level of performance by a special division within Ford (with input by Carroll) and is far superior in nearly every way to a base GT, with or without Shelby parts. truth.

I agree, a Shelby is a Shelby and the GT500 can run circles around a base SGT. But when it comes to people opinion and current values, the cars modified or should I say that were SAI upgraded are holding their value. Look for example at the 2006 Hertz, look how much their still selling for ($30,000's). My own 2007 Hertz with 54K miles and some damage sold for $22K and I paid $25K 3 years earlier. Look at the KR, still in the $50K range and its very compareable to a GT500. How much is a 2008 GT500 selling for? mid $25K to $30K, and they were for sale for $45K+.

Im not arguing that the GT500 is by far a better car performance wise than a SGT, just value wise, the SGT or any other with a CSM is holding up better.

i haven't seen any 2008 GT500s in the mid $25k range for sale anywhere. that's an exaggeration. at best, low 30's, with mid $35k being more close to the average selling price that i have seen. and that has been consistent since i bought mine in 2010. the hertz car is definitely going to keep value due to the extremely limited numbers and the fact that it was the very first of the new generation of Shelbys (and closely resembles the original Hertz). the KR is a pre-title GT500 and the only one produced for only 2 years. all things considered, i believe it has more to do with production numbers and maybe some hocus pocus perception than anything else.

i almost bought an SGT, but at the end of the day, my Mustang GT had those same upgrades (plus a few extras) for thousands less. when i decided i wanted a real Shelby, i opted for the GT500. another $12k in shelby/ford racing parts and i have better performing car than the KR could hope to be and spent a grand total of $46 to get there. i think shelby american is cashing in on general ignorance. but hey, can't fault them. if people are willing to fork out the equivalent of a second Mustang for that CSM number i would sell it for as long as i could too.

yeah, a Shelby GT/SC would have been my second choice. the looks of the SGT with nearly the same power as a stock GT500...not a bad combo. but the 3-valve 4.6 with no forged internals, 5-speed with a very tall 5th, a rattling hurst shifter, less structural rigidity (fewer weld points), narrower wheels, lower-quality seats, left-hand tachometer, 140 max speedo, interior trim pieces that glare severely, and on and on... went with a factory GT500. wish i could justify owning both though!

I dont own anymore Shelbys, So atleast your fortunate to have a GT500. When I said "BASE SGT", I meant how it was offered at dealers. The SGT/SC is not base, its an upgrade pkg with way better brakes and power.

At the end of the day, if you want an investment...get a 60's era Shelby

You *can* get a CSM# for your GT500. Not from Shelby Performance Parts but from Shelby American (as Steve already pointed out).

Ship your car to Shelby American (NV) or Tasca Ford (RI), pay them somewhere around $30K and you will get your CSM#, including a dash plaque.

And a bunch of other neat stuff too.

YES. It is *that* easy.

The Shelby GT was produced for two years also, not just the KR. And in reading your other posts here, you might want to back off the keyboard for a while and keep your SGT bashing to yourself. You obviously do not know the car or what you write about it here.

John, not worth the discussion. All I did was to help answer the question of no CSM, and explain the value difference which makes sense since cars with a CSM cost additional money, so oviosly they should sell for additional money.

Its amazing that Shelby owners which cars DO NOT have a CSM, get so defensive. I would own a GT500 if I could, there awsome cars, but I wanted a CSM car. People tend to forget that the only reason that Ford sold the GT500 (with advice from CS) is because they knew they could sell more cars under the Shelby name than under the banner Ford Cobra (SVT car).

Amusing thread.

I love my Shelby GT...with CSM #.

I agree Bob, this Us vs. Them (SGT/modded by Shelby vs. GT500/licensed by Shelby) seems to pop
up every so often to get folks britches in a bunch. Although I count two current separate threads on TS
making similar waves (see GT350 Made in Detriot under Team Shelby main forum) which may be a first.
I think winter may have something to do with it for those of us who won't drive them in snow states.

Could be!

Anyway, all Shelby's are great cars in my view, special in their own ways. Save energy to battle the Camaros!

It was not my intention to start a war....

It's just that some cars like the continuation shelby are getting CSM# ETC..., and since Carroll Shelby gave it's approval by puting it's name on the car, IMHO they should have gave it a CSM#.

Since I live very far from either facility, I will not get any upgrade just for the sake of having a number.

I bought my car to drive it around and have fun with it.

It's just that puting a plate on the dashboard with a CSM# would have been really cool.

I don't care about the value of the car, with or without the plate.

I will probably never sell it and if I ever do, it will probably be a high mileage car because I (ME, ME, ME) would have had a great time driving it, not the next owner...It was not an investment, It is a thing of the heart!!!!

I just love mustang and since a shelby came my way I bought it. It was a wrecked car that I brought back to life, now my paperwork says on it that it was a wrecked car, but I don't mind because I bought for my pleasure not anybody else's pleasure...

It would have been great to have a SGT, GT, hell even a base six cylinder... As long as I can drive it everyday and have fun with it!

Maybe they could offer a less pricey package that would include a CSM# and a couple more goodies for a fair price but $5k is too much for a number.

Maybe to collector the CSM# will be important, but for the every day people that don't buy cars to put in a garage and never drive it because It's an "investment", the CSM# won't matter much...They will get a car that they will enjoy...CSM# or not!!!!
