Hello all, haven't been here for quite some time.Anyway here goes, I was driving the Gt/SC back from a car show today, and the check engine light started flashing, then I heard a very low drone noise for about 5 seconds, then the engine light came on steady. All gages read normal, no leakes, or smells, but the car does seem to have used an awful lot of fuel today. I am obviously taking it to the shop, just wonder if anyone had any thoughts on this?

Hmmm.... Define "a lot of fuel today". How much more than normal? Any noticeable change in performance?

Well I didn't get on it after it happened but it didn't seem to be down on power. It used a quarter of a tank in about 40-50 miles. That's WAY more than usual.

If you have a code reader, plug it in and see what code the computer is kicking out.  My guess is some type of fuel flow issue and maybe your fuel sending unit may have gone haywire.... But it is hard to say without the code.  Will be curious what the outcome is.

I don't have a code reader, she's going to the shop next Monday, I will let you all know what the problem is, and I too think it is some kind of fuel sensor I just hope it's not the pump.

So, I borrowed a code reader from a friend and it turns out I get a misfire code for cylinders 4 and 7 which are paired. There is quite a few things that can cause this, so it's off to the shop sometime this coming week.

I had a very similar problem with my SGT. Although mine is not a GT/SC, I had a very similar problem with a deeper, drone-like sound, but it was constant, and my code reader also said a mis-fire on cylinders 4 and 7. What my problem ended up being is that the variable-timing mechanism connected to the front of my cam became loose and bored out the slot that it slides in to on the cam. Fixed the problem buy putting in a new cam. Not too much of a big issue, but sure is a stressful one. This occurred back in 2012, and my SGT only had around 8k miles!

hope this helps a little :)

Best of luck with the fix.

Interesting.  I've don't think I've heard of anyone else having that kind of issue.  I guess they must of not properly torqued the cam bolt.

Op do you have the BAP or GT500 fuel pumps ?  If you have the BAP, I would replace it with the GT500 pumps.  Could also maybe be the sending unit for the gauge.  Have you checked the mileage since you installed the SC ?  It does tend to go way down. :)

Well, it has been 2 years now since this problem started with the Shelby, I have changed the plugs, battery, and tested all the coils, all working all correct. The car has been to Tasca and I thought they had solved the problem as it went away for several hundred miles but then it cam back, its the same code every time, multiple miss fire on cylinders 4 and 7.  The car is at a local ford specialist for the last two weeks , they tested the alternator, under load, its fine along with all the above items, going to change out the crank position sensor next because other 4.6 owners have stated similar problems to what i'm having and that's what solved it,frankly at this point no one has been able to figure out what is causing it. It does not seem to matter what temperature the car is at, or if i'm just cruising along or getting on the gas, it goes off at random times, and at this point its driving me crazy. I don't believe its anything mechanical nor does the mechanic as the car runs perfectly 95% of the time and the issue does not seem to be getting any worse, but it is extremely annoying. If anyone has any suggestions on what could be causing this I'm all ears.

and....no go, after about 100 miles the engine code came back again. The crazy thing is it keeps giving the misfire code but almost every time now it comes up with a different cylinder number, so far 4, 7, 5, 2 . So I am not sure what to try next , was going to call ford performance and see if anyone there had an idea, i'm completely stumped.

I assume it acted up when the code came up? I would take it back to the same shop, tell them you read one other instance where it was a cam related issue. If that's the case sounds like a perfectly legit reason for hot rod cams. I'm surprised to read that Tasca could not figure it out.

I am bringing back to the shop on Monday,I am not sure how much Tasca really did to look for the problem, all they told me is they couldn't get it to come back while they had it, I thought the new plugs had solved the problem but it came back after about 300 miles. I had shown the local shop the post about the cam issue, they don't seem to think it's that but I will bring it up again.
