Advice needed from those running 335/30s on the rear. does this

Like everyone else on this forum, I’ve spent a lot of time weighing the pros and cons of what wheel and tire combo to go with. Mentally, I have gone through the full spectrum of options, ranging from a set of 9.5”x20” and 11”x20” Chicanes from Forgetrue to my current compromise between size, style, and affordability – a set of black CS40s, which come in 9”x20” for the front and 10”x20” for the rear.

My plan, up until the past couple of days, was to go with the stock staggered sizes of the CS40s and wrap them in a set of Michelin PS2s size 275/35 on the front and 305/35 on the back.

But the thought of going to a narrower wheel in front really bugs me -- on top of which there have been all these posts on this forum about people fitting 12” wheels with 335/30s out back. So I’ve been re-examining my options and think I’ve settled on a plan. But it’s a gamble, so I’d like to hear what others think – particularly those that have some experience running 335/30s at the rear.

It seems that the maximum wheel backspacing that anybody has run, without causing clearance issues, is 8.97” for an Alcoa 10” wheel (with a 37 mm offset), widened by two inches (stock backspacing for the Alcoa 10” is 6.97”). For comparison, our stock GT500 wheels have a 9.5” width, a backspacing of 7.125" and an offset of 45 mm.

Well here’s my plan: I think I’m going to order a set of 4 black 10”x20” CS40s which have a stock backspacing of 7.27” and an offset of +45 mm. Two of these I am going to have narrowed by 0.5”, resulting in a 9.5” width with 6.77” backspacing – or about 3/8” less than our stock GT500 wheels. I’d like to use these on the front with the 275/35 PS2s.

Then I’d like to widen the other pair of CS40s by 1.5”. This results in a wheel that is 11.5” wide with a backspacing of 8.77”. It turns out that an 11.5” wheel is the minimum recommended width for the Michelin 335/30 PS2 tire so, if I’ve done my math right, everything should fit.

I have the Ford FR3 suspension and a Fays2 watts link which, from reading all the posts here, seems like it should provide enough clearance.

However, before I do something foolish, I would appreciate some advice. Does this sound doable?

Many thanks!

Steve

New bands and sensors, 315x30 M/T drag radials on the rear maybe 2,000 miles at most on them. Stock front wheels with about 12k on them. Pics on request.

After 7 weeks the Shelby is sleeping at home again

Well it was a great day to see the car being pulled out of the body shop. Just a mere 7 weeks after being vandalized. The stripes are absolutely amazing now that they are painted on the car. We kept them the same color and just added more metallic to bring them to life a little more. After laying down and sanding several coats of clear you can not even feel the stripes. I will try to get better shots this weekend.

It all started last week when the wife and I took the daughter to the orthodontist. It was a nice day so we decided to take the snake. On the way to back to the car after the appointment I noticed that my exhaust was melting the rear facia. I took the car straight to the local dealer just to have them fix and that is when they noticed the rear end seal leaking and the mechanic informed me that there are metal shavings in there. So Today I take the car back to have further looked at and everything but the gears are toast. I love my Snake so I am just really bummed.

All thoughts and comments are welcome and encouraged!

I have a C&L CAI + tune from VMP. Stock pulley and stock everything else. That making it easy to go back to stock when I take it in for service.

Now, having seen, and heard more about, JLT CAIs at a recent show, started me down the road of why not put on a JLT CAI.

Driven by two things:

The throat of the C&L CAI is cast aluminum and get freaking HOT, and knowing there is an air temp sensor in there, even at speed, not sure if that would really drive the heat of the air coming in up and cost me some power (particularly when driving slow and/or in the heat of summer).

The JLT seems to have more surface area, and thus should be able to get more air in with less effort. Oh, yea, they look cool too.

However if I'm going to do a JLT CAI, might as well do a stock-look VMP 2.65" SC pulley.
Oh, if I'm going to do a stock-look SC pulley, probably best to go with new plugs due to the extra boost.
Hummm....and with the extra heat from the smaller pulley, probably should upgrade my heat exchanger (so much for quickly being able to go back to stock look when I take it in for service)
Then ya know, with all that, having a trusted performance shop handle it and do a Dyno tune would have it handled best and get the most out of my mods (power-wise) possible.

All adds up a a NICE chunk of change and just keeps feeding on itself more and more...

So, is it really worth it? I pose the question to those with C&L CAIs on if ANYBODY has noticed any Heat Soak or other indications that the hot cast aluminum throat of the CAI is costing power.

Thoughts and comments from all on if the $2K or so investment would really make any noticable difference in, I mean feel it in the seat, power are welcome and encouraged as well.

Went to the dyno tonight

I took my car to CRT Performance in Norwalk OH tonight, and the car made 715rwhp and 664.8tq. I thought those were great numbers on a Mustang dyno!
Mods are:
Evo KB 2.8 "Comp" kit w/3.25 pulley and J Lund tune
IW 10% lower
93 octane pump w/1 can Torco per tank
Afco HE
Reische Perf 170 thermostat
DSS driveshaft
FRPP 373 w/Detroit Tru Trac
Magnaflow muff deletes

Just want to say a big thanks to Jon Lund. He made himself available for over two hours making changes and sending revised tunes. He went above and beyond the call of duty. Not only does he know his stuff, he is a stand up guy. I would recommend him to everyone!

Funky smell, wet carpet!

Monday, on my run to the dealer for service and back, I noticed a slightly stale odor coming from the vents when I turned the a/c on. Not that it ever occurred to me to mention it to the dealer--I just thought it was a little odd. Paid no attention to it Tuesday, it was chilly and rainy, no a/c required. But this morning....wow, smelled like Swamp Thing had camped out in the back seat! I couldn't find anything in the car (rotted food, dead fish, etc.) so when I got home this evening I pulled her in the garage and lowered the top to try to find the source of the smell. To my surprise the passenger carpet was soaking wet. Really funky stuff! I removed the floor mat and vacuumed it thoroughly with a wet/vac and put a fan in it over night.

Is there a tsb on the a/c condenser drain or did I dream that? I'm almost certain that's what it is rather than a body leak, because of the foul odor from the a/c....... What's the fix for the funky smell? I'd rather not take it to the local dealer, but I can't afford another 1/2 day in Nashville this week!

Thanks!

Floor Mats...?

?

Hey there folks, I could use a little help here. When I picked up my KR, I asked the sales guy to find the proper KR mats for me, and was told that the "running pony" mats in the car are the ones that it's supposed to come with...
On my KR window sticker, it lists "Custom Shelby Floor Mat Badges". Exactly what is that?
Can anyone be so kind, as to post a picture of the original mats in an '09 KR? I'm still trying to get the dealer to come up with the correct ones. I can't believe they're supposed to be a small running pony.

Thanks much, Duane
