The Shelby Song The Legend and his Cars

I am clearly not a musician, guitar player, song writer or anything else musical, but I wish there was something out there that helped get more people into these cars and more awareness of what Mr. Shelby has done for so many people (cars and Children's Foundation).
So, I made my first attempt at a song. Feel free to laugh and make fun, I have thick skin. It is weak but it's a start. I figure that maybe we could all help turn it into something worthy, even if it means starting from scratch. In the mean time, I was thinking that Barry could give it a shot since he is a singer (if you're brave enough). And, naturally, I had to sneak something in there about car #22 (sorry no offense). Let's have some fun with it and see if we can come up with something good.
So, here we go…
The Shelby Song
Dedicated to the Legend himself; Mr. Carroll Shelby
I remember when I first saw a car named Shelby
I was driving down the avenue and I nearly went crazy
My girlfriend even stopped kissing me and lusted after that car
So I knew I had to buy one or she would leave me at the bar
I couldn't keep my mind off how powerful and fast it did look
It even seemed that way just as it stopped and stood
I read as much as I could about the man and his cars
All I could think of was how much money I wasted at those bars
For I could have been saving money to buy one of those cool rides
But all I could do is hope and lose my pride
So then the years went by and I lost every opportunity
I lost my girl and always wished that I had the money
Later I got married, bought a house and then had some kids
And it was always some reason which tampered all my bids
And then one day I learned the Legend was back at it at last
I couldn't let it pass again so I bought and paid with cash
I bought a Shelby GT, the most amazing car I've ever seen
Now I spend all my days driving, admiring and trying to keep it clean
I made sure I didn't buy car number twenty two
Cause it's haunted and possessed and would make me broke too
So I thank you Mr. Shelby, you are a Legend and a hero
You have made me feel like a kid again instead of like a zero
You have done wonderful things regarding cars and helping all those children
I hope you live forever or at least longer than I will then
You have made the best cars ever and will go down in history
And now I can proudly say that I Own A Shelby

Don't quit your day job yet, Adam .....LOL
Phew.... writing songs and you don't play guitar?
You have a bad case of PSDS.
Dr. Tim suggests that you take 2 aspirins and in the morning call SAI and demand your car !!!!!
Ripping through the gears at speed will cure your PSDS.

If you're going to write a song about an American legend and classic American muscle-why Clapton, he's British (maybe he can sing your AC Cobra song

As soon as I get his permission to post it, I will so you can all hear it. Carroll has to hear this, as well as Amy, John, Bud, Gary, Steve and all the others - and of course everyone on this forum and the rest of the world!
If you don't hear it on this forum by tomorrow, pressure Stump to let me post it. If any of you haven't heard him sing, find his signature and click on his myspace link to hear him. He has a great voice! Actually, here it is: http://www.myspace.com/barryjrobinson Barry, if I don't get your reply before tomorrow, then put that song on your myspace account so all can hear it right away.
Again, fantastic job Stump! Thank you!
Adam

I have the GT guitar, I played it a couple of times and it plays better than my American made Strat. I don't want to scratch it so I use my fingers when I play it. We will have to come up with a guitar harmony for Adam's song.

I agree on the chorus, if that's what it's called. I thought about it after I posted the words but didn't feel like changing it. Besides, Barry did it already.
As mentioned, I have the guitar and will let any SGT owner play it at any show that I am at since I will be displaying it each time. It will cost you a ride in your car LOL.
Anyway, Barry said I could post it. Since Picasa doesn't allow me to post MP3's, I posted it at the link below. I have a You Tube and a MySpace account but they are not worthy yet. I found that Google Groups allows for MP3's so here is a Shelby Automobiles Google Group I started last night with the link. I made it public so I hope you all can get this file.
Enjoy!

gtplumber, that will be great. It will be awesome to hear many renditions of this song. I figured you'd all goof on me but we might be on to something.

Vs. 1
I remember when I saw that beautiful Shelby.
I had to do a double take 'cause it nearly drove me crazy
My woman told me frankly, sitting in my car
Get a Shelby or you wont see me no more
Vs. 2
I learned about that car and the man behind the name
And how he got a chance in life by winning at the game
I tried saving money to get me one of those rides
but the world took my money and my pride
Chorus:
Good Lord Mr. Shelby what have you done?
You made one real fine car and I had to have one.
It empties out my wallet from the tickets that I owe,
Mr. Shelby, take me down the road.
Vs.3
As I got older, the dream was always there
But to own a legend, I did not have a prayer
And just as I though the end was nearly here
A brand new Shelby gave me a breath of air
Break
Now I'm a married man with children of my own
There's a Shelby in the drive that I'll get to pass on
Chorus:
For you musicians out there
Song is in D, Chorus is in G, break is in Bm
Simple 4/4 pattern about 100 bpm.

Barry, everyone here at my work loves your song. They're all impressed, especially having done it in only 2 hours. Even the singers and musicians loved it.

Heck Adam, you did the hard part. A theme and Lyrics are the hard part of writing the song. Arranging, playing, recording and editing are simple....
.....well, simple to someone who has been doing it for 15 years.

Nah, the credit goes to where it's due. You were great!
I heard that some at SAI heard it and were impressed too. I just sent you another PM.
I suggest you should put it on your MySpace account so others can hear it too.
Anyone else have any thoughts, suggestions, opinions...? Should we change anything? Anyone have other lyrics to add or remove? I love what we have so far but want other opinions.

I was thinking about having you add a line in there...something along the lines of "from BC to Tennessee"
grin.
Loved it up here in British Columbia! You guys Rock.
I'd be really curious to learn of Mr. Shelby's first response after hearing it!>>>?
Pretty fun. I'm very impressed.
