Well guys...

I was installing my new supercharger pulley today so I can increase the boost on my CS6 when I found to my surprise that about half of the supercharger kit including the supercharger itself has to be removed to replace the serpentine belt.

The belt winds through either side of the supercharger supports so if you don't remove it you can't remove the belt and the position of the inter-cooler makes removal and re-installation of the belt almost impossible.

That's not the sort of thing you would like to find out on a dark road in the middle of the night that's for sure.

Also, when I attempted to get the proper size belt I required for the smaller pulley I was advised a 106" X 6 rib serpentine belt is not available from any of the major belt manufacturers so it would most likely be special order.

After several hours of searching Google without any luck and calling local parts shops I decided to check with one of my local bearing & belt vendors that fortunately for me has a former 20 year Ford parts guy working for them.

Right off the top of his head this guy gave me a JK61060 Motor-craft part number which is in fact a 6 rib x 106" belt....but...guess what......
Not one Ford dealer within a 50 mile radius had this belt on the shelf so I ordered two in for Monday.

Good thing I'm in my warm toasty shop when I find this out and not on some road trip in the middle of nowhere.

I would strongly suggest that you have one of these superchargers installed, find the belt part number, record it and keep a spare belt on hand at all times and if your going to travel, ensure you take all the tools you will require to remove and re-install the belt if necessary....

If your looking to downsize the pulley (mine #2A036-287) for more boost make sure there is a standard belt available and order it at the same time so you know it will fit your application.

What's the old saying..."an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure"....

Have a great weekend...

I would think it should be the same belt as used on a Vortech and several people have downsized that. I'll find out soon enough as I am having the local speed shop do the same thing starting this weekend. I'm also putting on a bigger intercooler.

Are you using the same model pulley ??

Maybe a pulley size up or down could be the difference between off the shelf or special order.

A 106.5 " belt or a 105.5" belt are readily available but for some reason a 106" is not.

What model intercooler are you going to use ?

I'm getting a Novi 2200R installed at month's end. Is it the same for a V8 car?

Unfortunately, that I can't tell you,
I wouldn't have even known about this issue myself if it wasn't for trial & error.....

I would consult Paxton directly to get their feedback just in case you need to order a spare belt at the time of purchase.

They mentioned using a whipple intercooler radiator since they were a whipple dealer and it would be easy for them to obtain, plus they think it might be a bolt in arangement since the GT/GT500/V6 frame brackets appear to be the same. He looked at it and seemed to think it was no big deal. Mine is the only V6 car they work on and they seem to like that since it is something different. I haven't got the estimate yet so I'll let everyone know the details when the work is done.

That's great.....

It's always good to know what works and what doesn't when looking to derive benefit from upgrades.

Are you changing the complete inter-cooler itself or just the radiator portion ?

Make sure to include a few photos...

Just the radiator potion. I'm not going to fool with the pump.
Along with the supercharger pulley, he is going to install some device which boosts the voltage to the fuel pump. He says the fuel pump will handle the extra load with no problem.

I never even thought about the fuel issue......

Do they think this could be a potential problem ???

What are the symptoms of insufficient fuel delivery on a supercharged vehicle ??

I don't know how safe that modification would be long term, your probably better to replace the pump with a higher volumetric efficiency unit.

Increasing the voltage will make the pump run at a higher frequency which will produce more volume but if it's only rated at 12vdc and you increase the voltage you'll only decrease the life of the unit.

Unless these pumps have some type of severe duty service on the motors they could survive but I'd confirm the specifications first before I boosted the voltage.

Remember, these started their life as a V6 vehicle and we have already increased the injector size.

I'll be at my Ford Racing dealer in the morning to pick up my belts so I'll ask if they utilize the same fuel pump in the V6 and the GT.....if not, I'll get the part number for a higher volume unit....possibly the GT-500 if it will fit the tank.
