Jon,

Not sure of a good source for a response to your question; would of thought SAAC could help you. I can say that CSX2159 came without a data plate when I purchased it in 1964. I do remember seeing others in the 64/65 time frame with data plates on pax side foot box. Do you have access to the Registry?

I also looked in Rinsey Mills book entitled "Original AC Ace & Cobra", page 78, which states "CSX cars up to chassis 2201 did not normally have chassis plates, with the exception of some of the very early cars, which had a plate similar to that of the Ace 2.6 but giving only the chassis number". European leaf spring Cobras had a chassis plate attached to foot bax that included Engine and Chassis numbers. I have found this book to be a good source of information, but wrt 2159 there are some mistakes.

Ron

I would continue trying the SAAC route. Did you try their forum? That is going to be a much better source of original Cobra info than here.

The eary cars were not fitted with footbox ID tags, the chassis No was stamped into the chassis.
