You can add another $100K or 'bout double that $150K for a Ford GT Heritage. Bitchin' paint job...

Are you talking about a vintage Ford GT-40 or the more recent Ford GT?

A true GT40 would be worth a TON of money - probably upwards of $500k or more. The Ford GT (2005 & 2006) is probably in the low to mid $100k area.

That would be a Ford GT, not a GT-40. The newer built car was to be called GT-40, but George Stauffer holds the copyright to the name and could not come to terms with Ford on their using the name, hence Ford GT. I do have some early items from the conept release which says GT-40; press kit, tri-bar spinner paperweight and watch, but all of that was changed for produciton.

As was stated; the newer car is still a strong $150K car, while the original would command half a million or better (probably colser to the or better part).

You're correct, I was responding to the OP's question.

As far as the "new" model Ford GTs are concerned, $150K seems to be the median price, the Heritage do however fetch quite a bit more when they come up for sale (haven't checked Mannheim lately). There was a one-off GT built for the CEO of Ford or something that was on eBay recently, 1 of 1 for color but it's since been taken down/sold. The red/white and white/blue color combos are the most prolific while the yellow/black and other color combos are more limited. The availability of new/untitled GT's is actually pretty decent. Double, even single digit for mileage all day. They're definitely an investment grade car and ones with "high" mileage (breaking into the 5 figures) do sell for a bit less.

I'd definitely like to add one to my stable, but I want a GT500 first, which would be more of a DD. It's a buyer's market right now for everything, luxury items included. The GT's definitely a "church" car as I like to call it...

...although someone "customized" my M-B S55 AMG in the church parking lot once...and forgot to leave a note. :doh:

A little GT trivia...

Does anyone know what the number 40 refers to?

BTW Grabber, awesome pics! :rockon:

This dealer site has almost cornered the pre-owned Ford GT market: http://www.eliteautosllc.com/home.php. Should give you a good idea of GT values.

Height, in inches, of the original.
The '05 and '06s are 43.5 inches in height.

Nice Pics Grabber.

Funny thing about the name rights? While Ford tried to call it a GT-40, that name was really just a slang term, cause of its height. It really was called a Ford GT, as it was a Lola GT body with Ford power. They kept the name for the '64 season, when working on it, and its why the original prototype seen in pics (now since destroyed racing), show the rocker decal as "Ford GT". When Ford couldn't get the name GT-40, they figured, just name it Ford GT, as thats what it was originally.

And I can add some SERIOUS insight to the question on values of the original cars? GT 101 and GT102 are gone. They were destroyed while racing. GT103, is the oldest in existance. It was owned for almost 40 years by a very good friend of my father's, in a town in Montgomery County, PA. It was the 1st to ever win a race for Ford (Daytona 65), first to ever finish a race, and it was one of the early cars worked on my Carroll Shelby, to get it up to "snuff" for racing. He never thought to sell it, but Symbolic MotorCars of La Jolla, contacted him and the dealer made an offer he couldn't pass up. Symbolic restored the car back to the original Guardsman Blue/White stripe with #73 Roundel on it (the livery it wore when it won Daytona), and they sold it at auction at Monterey several years ago. The car now resides at the Shelby Museum in Boulder, Colorado.

Oh, and the price my dad's friend got? Rumor was well over $2 Million!! Just a little food for thought.

And I do have pics of his car, in the old Maroon color he had Ford paint it when he bought it back in the 60's, but the problem, they are on regular 35MM film. I saw the car the 1st time back in the early 2000s, at a picnic, and digital cameras were still VERY expensive and not as prevelant back then as they are today.

Good trivia question. Right answer.
As far as rarity, I understand the Ford GT (40) roadster has been restored, or is being restored. It was in one of the British magazines of late.

More trivia:

In relation to the Ford GT;
Who/what was Petunia?

Similar but different situation;
Bonus: Who/What was Daisy?

Petunia: Ford's internal vehicle name for the GT during its development and pre-production phase.

You have stumped me with "Daisy"

You're right on Petunia.

Daisy was the name used for the Cobra Concept when Ford was developing it.

One-off or not that $600K asking price is a way tall order...
