It could be fixed with a rear clip.

Come on, you can clearly tell from the picture above that it's a......well......coupe, convertible,.......... hunk of metal. We need to find out which number this is for the registry.

The listing on Ebay has stopped for an "error" . There seems to be an increasing number of wrecked Shelby's being sold on Ebay of late. Anyone thinking about buying a wrecked car may want to consult with a professional damage appraisor before bidding. Any uni-body style car, is designed to absorb impact, thus protecting the occupants. The car suffers however and the repairs are much more costly and complicated then a picture may indicate. In Florida, for example, it may be legal to sell a car with a State of Florida Salvage Title OR a State of Florida Certificate of Destruction BUT why do you suppose the car was issued this type title ? Answer: A professional appraisor has determined the car is NOT cost effective to repair. To get these type of Florida titles, the repairs required to fix the car exceeds 70%-80% of the current retail value. In the case of the Hertz cars, Hertz Corp. has very detailed records of all of their Salvage cars, including numerous pictures, appraisal, salvage work sheet etc. I guess the point is, why would a Salvage dealer, reach out to unsuspecting Ebay buyers to sell their junk, when they have a very broad Salvage Dealer network to draw upon. The answer is obvious. A good rule to follow is: if it has a Salvage title of any type, BEWARE, unless you own a body shop and understand what's involved with rebuilding Salvage title cars.

hertz corp. having this very detailed record keeping of there salvage cars, is there any way they are sharing w/ shelby as to get these cars registered as total losses. so in the future when these cars show up someone will have the knowledge that this was a total loss car.

The seller closed the auction and relisted it with the correction.
Currently the car is at $6,000 reserve MET. Personally I don't see how the car can be repaired unless someone plans on transferring all the Shelby parts to another car. The SAI registry will be updated with this info.

In Florida, any car that is issued a Salvage or Certificate of Destruction can never have that title re-issued as a regular title. Also this information goes into the State data base as Salvage and will show on any search by VIN that the car is indeed a salvage. As far as an insurance company or Hertz advising Shelby Automotive about the Salvage would be unlikely, given the fact that the State, via the title pretty well sums up the situation. This is why the Shelby registry and SAAC (Shelby American Auto Club) and it's members are an important tool in providing information on all Shelby cars, including the Salvage ones. For anyone to sell a Salvage Titled car (by "washing the title" in a state that does NOT have Salvage titles) would be nothing less then Fraud. I am very suprised that Ebay is allowing this type of sale given the risk to an unsuspecting or impulsive buyer. Buying a car on Ebay is really a matter of homework, if you want to be comfortable with your purchase. CarFax is a must !!

After all, all it needs is a "rear clip"!
Just for fun I showed it to our body guy and he responded by asking if it came with a fork? He stated that structural damage like that requires a new tub (unibody assembly).
Maybe if you unscrew the gas cap roll a new Hertz underneath and screw the gas cap back on.
Its proof that some people are just here for the amusement of others!

Great post Colin, you are right on the money with this one. Whoever buys this WILL just roll another car underneath the original VIN and gas cap . I hope the VIN number on this car made it to Shelby Registry because this car WILL re-surface as a "repaired" car and some unsuspecting buyer will get taken big time. Many states do not acknowledge Salvage / Certificate of Destruction titles and will just re-title the car with a clean title and POOF, the bogus Shelby is born, not to mention the risk that the car used to "roll under the VIN and gas cap" may not be totally legitimate either, This mess should have been parted out and crushed and shredded to make a new Hyundai.
