Well, many of you know that the Terlingua Bull Run event took it's toll on many a paint job. The front of my car was completely rock blasted. So I made the decision to go ahead and have the entire car redone with painted stripes and then many layers of clear for a completely smooth surface that should last many a year. It will be a few weeks before the car will be completed, but here's today's shots from the body shop. They actually found quite a few dings that I've never seen, so the car should be about perfect when complete. Here you go:

Hey Jeff,
I was in the new Grey 08 Mustang, at Terlingua, and the same thing happed to me. I, was going to add Trelingua Package, to it. On the Bull Run, I kept up for a while, but so many of the lead cars were pitching rocks, every time they passed me, so I decided to go to the back of the 'Pack'. I was one of the last cars in. The 'Stang', had 8 miles on it when we started the Run to Alpine. I still had a very good time. What a GREAT Historical Event, Terlingua was. I am very happy that I could be there. Your car will be Beautiful, when done. Post Pics when it's done.

Big Lar

Exciting stuff! I was just looking at mine in the garage and trying to convince myself to have the stripes painted on as well. I think it's gonna look phenomenal when completed. I am excited for you. How much is this going to set you back? It's gonna be more here in Hawaii anyway but wondering how much quality work costs. Can't wait to see the results!

I had mine painted on:

Having to replace those gold stripes every two years didn't sound so good to me.

It's looking like I'll be right around $5K for the entire paint job. I'm also getting all new headlights, signals, windshield, and a few other things. So it will be close to $6K when all done.

Well, I got the car home tonight. I still have some assembly such as hood pins, front emblem and a few other things, but at least it's home. It still needs it's first polish also. They ended up painting all the gold first, then multiple coats of clear, wet sand, taped it all off, then painted all the black, then multiple more coats of clear. The stripes are as smooth as glass all across the top and sides. I guess the gold really jumps out in the sun light, there's some pearl base they put in. Someday I'll get to see that! Snow and rain here today dang it! Well here's some pics in it's new home. I'm not quite finished with that yet either, but it's coming along.

I just spent two hours taking off all the Terlingua decals. I will never look at the Sponsors the same way again.... I am bringing my car into the shop tomorrow for a few upgrades and I am having them paint the hood, fenders, bumper and area around the window, they are charging me $1825 to do the painting they also quoted me $2,400 to paint the stripes on without lines this equels $4225 for all the body work. That was only for one coat of clear coat after reading your post I think I am gettig overcharged. They painted your entire car for only $5,000 with painted stripes thats sounds like a bargain did you bring it to a body shop or the dealer?

Anyways your car looks great how well did they do the stripes are you 100% happy is there anything I should be on the look out for?

Hi Jeff,

Did they paint the side stripes or are those vinyl side stripes?

The dealer thats going to paint my over the top stripe wanted to charge $1,000 a side to do the side stripes so it would have been another $2,000 to paint the side stripes that would have been $4,400 just for painting all the stripes.

I dont know I might just have them put the vinyl on at those prices I still haven't gave them a yes for painting the stripes but a yes for painting the front of the car.

Side stripes are also all painted. We had Fine Line Graphics in Denver do a set of stripes to use as stencil. Like I said, all the gold was laid down first. Then they put the tape and graphics on and painted the black over the gold. All said and done, came out just at $6,000. With new lights, grilles, front facia, etc, right around $7,000. I found the front facia out of a yard in Arizona for $250 off a wrecked car, but the facia was like new and already stripped and primed. I had a private shop do the entire job. Ambrosio Concepts. Also, other pertinant info for future searches. I found this info on other threads here on Team Shelby from other members who already went through the work:

Dupont code for the gold paint: 409383
Lettering font information: Myriad bold italic 96 point.
