I went to Bickford Ford in Snohomish today to inquire about getting a clutch/flywheel replacement. They drove the car and it looks like it's going to happen. :happy feet: I then asked them about what they would charge to do a gear swap while I had the car in. They told me the book calls it an 8.5 hour job and that's their rate. :headscratch: I told them I've heard all over this site of guys getting quoted four hours labor from dealerships accross the country. He wouldn't budge and basically stroked his dealership by saying how great they are and that people come from far and wide to get work done by them. He said they take their time and make sure the work is done right! I promptly said thanks for the free clutch and I'll find someone else to give $500 to swap out my gears. :slapfight: That said, I'm wondering if any of the local mod-heads can recommend a quality shop to get my gears done?

Also, Bickford sells lots of Shelbys and they always have pretty good inventory on hand. Today they had three KRs and a 725hp SuperSnake, along with a handful of GT500s. I'm thinking about swapping out my Borla Touring mufflers for KRs and asked if I could hear the KR mufflers. The guy said sure. He comes out with the keys and fires that thing up............man it was awesome! :shift: I've only heard the video clips and they do the KR mufflers little justice. Needless to say, I'll be picking up a set VERY soon........h-pipe or no h-pipe, I'm sold!!

Thanks in advance for any feedback on a good mod-shop.

Sorry don't have any advice on mod shops but I can confirm the KR axle backs are sweet!!! Easy to install yourself. Please keep us posted on the clutch TSB work. I am thinking I will need it done soon as well. Hope they live up to their word.

I went to their website and it almost looked like they're a wholesaler? It didn't look like they do installs? Has anybody had work done at TMS in Auburn?

Here's a few Puget Sound area shops with good reputations for ring & pinion swaps...

Randy's Ring & Pinion in Everett (the sell and install).
Brad's Custom Auto in Lake City (Seattle).
Bowen Scarff Ford in Kent (I've personally had 3 gear swaps done there!).
Blood Enterprises in Auburn.
TMS (The Mustang Shop) in Auburn.
Tom Turner's Performance Prep in Federal Way (I've personally had several gear swaps done there, as well).

These are the ones I know of. There are probably many other good shops around here that are worthy of consideration. I've typically paid between $250 and $500 for the labor to swap gears, and another $200 - $250 for parts (gears, install kit, fluids, etc.). Hope that helps.

cluscher did you do the gear change? If so, who did it and how did it work out?

Not yet, will probably go to Brad's and get it done the end of the month. Them, TMS, and Randy's ring 'n pionion are all in about the $500 range. If I was just doing gears I'd probably have Randy's do it, but I'm probably also going to do UCAs at the same time. I've heard Brad's is a real good shop from multiple people.

I'll post on the outcome once I get it done.

Cluscher:
Let me know when you sell your Borla's, I may be interested in buying them from you. You do have a GT 500 correct? If you can PM me a sound clip of them, that would be great!
BTW, Grabber just received his KR mufflers yesterday...be prepaired for a install bio and a sound clip of epic proportions.

I've had all of my mods done by Bills custom auto in Marysville. Bill has done mods on a few GT500's and is the best Mustang specialist in the area..
