Since Shelbyfest is right around the corner I thought I would post on what to bring for ShelbyFest. I recommend doing a full detail before the Fest. Put a good coat of your favorite wax or sealant on her. You can cover the front end with painters tape or the new plastic wrap they sell for cars. It looks like Saran wrap but its made for cars. Or you can just leave the front end alone because you know unless you trailer it down its still going to get chips and bugs through the tape or wrap. Clear bra owners need not do anything to the front end. DO NOT put on tire dressing. Reason is this, if you drive the car, the dressing could sling and or need to be removed if you put a car cover on over night which some have stated you will do. The dressing will get on the car cover and then on the car when it is removed. After the detail park the car until you need to drive it to the fest. The next thing will be what to bring? For the local members bring,

1. Detail Spray- Most can be used as glass cleaner, bug remover, and wheel cleaner for short trips.
2. Glass Cleaner- Great on Billet Grills, wheels, exhaust tips, and of course glass.
3. Favorite Microfiber Towels- Use anywhere on the car and if you sweat or get emotional use it on yourself.
4. Tire Dressing- Only apply this at the show if theres no wind so you dont spray your car and other vehicles around you. You would be
suprised how far this stuff travels with a little wind present. If you can get a tire dressing sponge and apply it by hand.
5. Car Duster- Works real well fast for light dust.

This is for the Long haulers. Heres what you will need.
1. Wash Bucket- Besides washing the car you can store products in it.
2. Two wash mitts- You can use them and wash them by hand with car soap in the hotel sink if need be.
3. Car soap- Wash the car and your hands at once.
4. Drying towels- Bring two, if it rains or if you have to wash more than once you will need them. Easy to wash in the hotel.
5. Bring everything mentioned above also.
6. Most importantly find a DIY car wash in the area. You can bring gallons of water if needed,
but its drastic and you may be serious about car care. :hysterical:
7. A scratch remover that you can use by hand. If a scratch does happen it may be taken care of on the spot.

Im putting this post out there because over the years ive gotten alot of questions regarding travel and keeping a car looking its best even during and after a 700 mile drive across the US.
If you have any questions post them here or PM me or email me.

:lurk:

I'm thinking that I'll just take you!!!! LOL For the long haulers who weren't there last year there is a self service car wash right next to Hermann Ford than most of us with black cars had to use after the rain on FRI

My car looked ok on Saturday, but not nearly as good as it did on Thursday nite!

There is another car wash a couple of block away from the show as well. There are a few more bays over there.

VaporDude, I will be there. I was also thinking of hosting a little detail clinic during the show. A basic do's and dont's with a Q&A session after.

ShelbyDream, I can fit in the trunk and jump out to detail at stop lights like a troll. LOL

Its good theres plenty of places to wash the cars. I was going to post that next.

There is a car wash on the north side of the river on 19 called Loutre Car Wash. DO NOT use that car wash. They don't maintain that one as well as the other two plus that is where alot of the farmers in that area go to wash off the dirt and mud from their trucks and whatever else they can fit in there.

VaporDude, Thanks for the warning. Alot of places have to reclaim used water and the filtration isnt good.
Ive also have seen people use muratic acid in these types of washes so be careful. Especially around the stripes.

Check out the May 09 issue of Classic Motorsports, it has a six page artical on Concours Detail Secrets by a guy who gets ~$3500 for detailing cars.

Good stuff.
