Best Birthday present ever!

I have tried to be there for them when ever they need me. I have tried to be the best father I could be. Nick and Jessica's biological father was never around much (like my dad), so I tried to be a decent substitute. I have always thought about all the things I could have done better with them and always thought that I made a lot of mistakes.
I tell you all this because last week my daughter (almost 19 now) legally changed her last name to mine. She had been working on this for months. I can not tell you how many tears I have cried since then (I am crying now).
It was the best birthday present I have ever received!
I love you Jessica!!! Thank you for being a great daughter!

great story, bud and no doubt earned. The gesture is indicative of how well you've done on their behalf.
Congrats to you both

My former step-daughter was abused by her bio-dad. When her mom and I married, we stopped taking his child support. Three years later, she allowed me to adopt her and she took my name. (she'll be 19 next month) What a feeling.
Again - congrats!
