I'm considering the following mods for the 2010 Shelby:
2.9L Whipple (thinking 17lbs boost)
Larger heat exchanger
Boost A Pump
Larger injectors
New MAF
Custom tune
JLT intake
One piece driveshaft

Will I gain much with exhaust changes? Like the stock one.....
What RWHP should be expected @ 17lbs of boost? Has anyone done this yet, and if you did, any recommendations? I don't much like the idea of having to remove the front bumper cover to change the heat exchanger, the paint is perfect and I would like to keep it that way....

Thanks all!

Well the less exhaust restriction you have the better on a boosted vehicle. Hi flow cats (if cats are required), larger diameter mandrel bent tubing, and long tubes will definately make a difference. The amount your willing to invest vs. what you gain is up to you. I imagine it should be about a 30-35 rwh hp gain with full exhaust.

Respectfully,

Roger

Right there with you...I am considering the Whipple as well. I have the TVS on my 2007 GT500 and have no complaints but for less money and more potential I may go with the Whipple on my 2010. I am also with you on having to take the front clip off for the heat exchanger...things are usually not the same once they have been taken apart and put back together once they leave the Ford assembly line.
Would love to hear from some of the vendors as to what they would put into a package with the Whipple..probably will just stick to the engine mods as the car will not see the track.

The 2.9L is a great blower for someone wanting good power that's just a blower swap away. You can safely make about 700 rwhp with stock pumps and injectors with out the need of a boost-a-pump. Me personally, I would at least like a set of 72 lb injectors on my car when making that power, but if you plan on going higher, that's when I'd recommend installing the injectors and either new pumps or a BAP. Another nice thing about the Whipple is that you can run any intake you want, so if you have an existing or custom cold air kit that attaches the the stock blower, it will also work with the 2.9L. At 17 psi, the car should be in the 680-690 rwhp range.

Taking the front bumper off to install the heat exchanger is not a big deal at all, and the paint will not be damaged as long as you don't shove and force the front bumper back on. If I remember correctly, there is only like 12 fasteners that hold the complete front fascia onto the car, then unclip the 6 light connections (head lamps, fog lamps, and side markers) and it pulls off rather easily.

After making many mods including pulley change, long tube headers and 3" exhaust plus cold air induction and Diablo Tune I decided to purchasr the 2.9 Whipple, larger heat exchanger, boost a pump and aluminum drive shaft. After all was said and done, rwhp went from 517 to 630. I have one last thing I'm going to have done and that is installing the same throttle body that is presently being used on the Cobra Jets. Hopefully this change will add 10-15 hp.

Thanks, appreciate the very helpful comments. If I decide to do it (I'm about 90% there), Rick up at Amazon Racing in upstate SC will do the work. He did my 640hp Terminator with a Whipple and it was perfect.....he is VERY careful with customer's cars, so I'm feeling a bit more confident in this...

Mark,

If you go this route would love to hear your feedback....on both the pieces and parts and Amazon's work. I know they are recognized for their 03-04 Terminator knowledge but have not seen where a lot of GT500's have gone through their shop...not saying thay haven't just have not heard about them.

Thanks

For the record, Rick and I pulled the front fascia off of my 2010 to do the H/E with no paint damage whatsoever. And, like everyone says, it was an easy process. It was even the first 2010 he's done so yours should go even more smoothly. Good luck, that mod list sounds great, and I look forward to hearing all about it!

LOL, I have to pull off my front clip to FIX the crap ass assembly and paint! The Ford assembly line leaves much to be desired.

I was going to ask if an upgraded fuel pump was mandatory but Derek answered that. The only thing I'm a little concerned about is that you must seal the blower to the manifold with RTV. It seems like a lot can go wrong with that.

Wes, just finished the throttle body change and gained another 18 rwhp putting it up to 648. I need wider/stickier tires badly.

I've had basically the same changes, plus the lower IW pulley and monoblade TB. It pulled 730rwhp a few weeks ago on a Dynojet. I suspect 700rwhp is more realistic. I did have headers on for a bit - that gave another 40hp, but I did not like the sound.

Using RTV to seal the blower to the manifold is not really an issue as long as you follow the instructions. Ford Racing puts their name on these blowers and sells them as their kit, so if it were an issue, I don't think they would be doing that.

I agree that there shouldn't be any problems as long as comprehensive instructions are included. It just makes me a little uneasy when there is a blower gasket imbedded in the manifold and RTV is still needed. That being said, if I change blowers it will be a 2.9 this time.

OK, decided to hold off on the Whipple/supporting mods until at least late spring. Want to get more miles on this thing, and with my work travel schedule, that will take a while.
So ordered and just finished installing the Shelby Baer extreme plus brake kit....it's purty! Will be driving it this coming weekend to start breaking in the rotors. Needs some regular street miles prior to seasoning the rotors/pads.
Put the silver calipers with blue letters on a grabber blue car. They really look great and the fit/finish is exceptional....

The reason you have to use the RTV is because the countersunk bolt holes that hold the blower plate to the compressor unfortunately cross paths with the stock lower manifold gasket. So the RTV is used to fix that issue. As Derek said if it were an issue FRPP and Shelby wouldn't be selling them.
