My new GT500 Convertible arrives this afternoon, and I'm already thinking about what's next! I am not one to go out and get major mods, but years back on my 2004 Cobra I did purchase a tuner, and the driving results were improved.

Any thoughts on a tuner for the 2010 GT500? What's the best one available? Is it worthwhile?

Please help!

Thanks!

A Jon Lund tune from Evolution or Lethal Performance is always a safe bet. What part of Maryland are you from?

Well JJ at Woobine Motorsports is a good guy who is local. He was in the Lightning scene and moved over to Mustangs after they were discontinued. I went with the Jon Lund tune from Evolution Performance because I needed something quick. However, I think I'm going to have JJ redo my tune after I put on the new pulley. He did all the work on my 2005 GT and I never had an issue.

Congrats on your new Shelby! You're gonna love it. As far as mods and tuning goes it's amazing how little it takes to get these cars making some good power. A tune alone will yield you 40-50rwhp. Add an offroad X-pipe and you're looking at up to 65rwhp. Those are the exact gains we received on our 2010 and documented it all.

Check it out here.

The tunes and SCT X3 are all available through us and typically ship the same day you order them. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks, Jared

HI confirm the x pipe adds 25 rwhp to the tune for 65 total or 65 rwhp by itself plus the tune ?? What what expected fywheel hp then with the 2 mods ??
Thanks, Jared

The tune by itself made 49rwhp over stock. With the same tune we added our offroad x-pipe and made an additional 15rwhp. So to get the 65rwhp you would need the tune and offroad x-pipe.
Not sure what these gains equate to as flywheel though.

My recommendation is go to a local guy if you can. I got no where near what the advertised gain I was supposed to get when I ordered my tune. Plus if you order a tune you will have to pay for dyno time to see if you are even getting close to the advertised gain. If you go to a local person who has a dyno they will tune your car and dyno it for a flat fee most likely. Probably save you $100 or so.

Check the latest 5.0 Magazine. VMP is in an article tuning a new 2010. To get these 60RWHP gains, VMP required a smaller pulley, tune, air filter, and throttle body. A tune alone barely added squat. The reason you could easily get a lot more power on the earlier cars is because all of the packages came with a CAI which is where most of the power came from. 2010's already have it and more aggressive tuning. Get a tuner to explain why a CAI + tune 2009 makes the same power as a 2010 with tune. It's because it is the same engine.

As far as tuning your GT500 there is only one choice. A "Lund Tune" with pulley is by far considered by all to be the best tune period! Call Van 561-445-7702.
After talking to many GT500 veterans all agree there is no better than a lund tune...Im getting mine done later month.....from what im hearing you will pick up another 2mpg after the tune...! im psyched...

Thanks everybody for some fantastic responses! Now I have to make the decision!

I just finished my first weekend of having the new car. It warmed up today to 70 degrees, and I will get another warm day tomorrow! I realize that doing tunes and other mods will improve the power etc...but boy I have loved the last 2 days of driving! Totally awesome power! I think my friends think I'm insane! I have put the fear of g-d in them by showing them what this car can do! I think I might be converting some of my Mercede's amd BMW friends to think American!

Thanks again for all of the help!

Yeah, well, I called Lund, and like so many before me...never got through and never heard back....

I got an INSTANT response from Justin over at VMP...so, as will always be the case with me, customer service won my money....

I ordered the cool new livewire tuner and he throws in three tunes preprogrammed for you.

I too checked pretty thorughly and couldnt fine one person, besdies Jared, who got anywhere near 40-50hp.I found Jared the most responsive and honest.I bought tuners for previous cars, one by Lund and got under 20hp gain, better shifting (A/T), and lower temps for $400.My plan is to have a local tuner do mine for $600,if i do it.This cool weather has added lots of HP,and Im thinking why do I want to fool with this, get into the whole warranty issue et al??

Jon is a busy person and this isn't his only job. I'm not defending him but just letting you know why you most likely had a hard time getting a hold of him. If you're still looking for one of his tunes give us a call. I can guarantee that we have it ready to ship within 24hours of your order. As far as gains go the 49rwhp we saw with a tune only are as real as it gets. We cooled the car properly between each run and made sure that nothing else would effect the results.

Please feel free to give us a call if you have any other questions.
Thanks, Jared

I appreciate your response. There's many others out there that got the same results as us they just all don't post on these forums. If the car is tested with all of the variables being the same you should see similar results. This means using the same dyno on the same day. Cooling the car between runs. Making sure that the tune file is loaded properly. In my opinion you're much better off going with something like what we offer that's proven rather than having your local guy who most likely has less experience with these cars a crack at it and possibly spending $600.00 for fractional gains in performance.
