Hey guys, I saw a topic about fuel pressure gauge and it gave me an opportunity to ask something that has been on my mind. When I had the Edelbrock supercharger installed, I asked the installer about the gauges I should buy. He said, Wideband O2 or nothing, so I bought that and a Boost gauge.
One thing I've noticed (more at night when I see the gauge better) is that the Wideband gauge is all over the place whenever the throttle is anything but steady. So, decel, accel and anything but constant throttle, the gauge dances like crazy from rich to lean. It never stays at one or the other more than 2-3 seconds but it still makes me wonder if this is normal.
They mounted the sensor on the right side of the x-pipe. Anyway, your responses would be very helpful to know if this is normal or not. Also, if it is normal, what should I look for on the O2 sensor to be a problem? Thanks guys!

That's common. They bounce around quite a bit. It's the wide open throttle were it needs to be more constant (ish)

I have an Edelbrock also and had the Shelby Guage package installed as well as matching Autometer A/F guage (mounted in one of the A/C vents. It bounces all over. It get signal once a second and as I understand it. the computer reads the mixture and constantly(once a second) adjusts the mixture. The mixture goes rich, lean, rich, lean on a one second interval........I use the guage to make certain that the mixture doesn't go lean and stay there for a long time when running harder than normal. The bouncing is normal....a continual lean condition can't be tolerated. Anybody knows different then exlplain it to both of us. Wnenn

Thanks guys, the installer told me that as well, and while I trust him... I wanted to get a second opinion. Thanks again for your help!

I have Inovative motorsports wide band, Spec wide band guage with O2 sensor installed right after collector. It seems to work quite well stays between 10.8 and 11.2 at Idel and goes to around 11.2 to about 12.5 .7 when I get into throtle. occasionally jumps up to 13 for very short periods, but for most part stays in the 10.9 to 11.5 range. I believe the K/B tune is set to be 11.2 .5 range.

10.8 @ idle?!?! That's pretty rich. You aim for apx 14.7 @ idle and during light throttle (think cruise control, or just maintaining a certain speed) During wide open throttle you would normally want to see apx 11.7 (or maybe a slightly lower # for safety) in a boosted application. N/A cars I believe are around 12.5 @ WOT, but maybe someone else can confirm this. Also, for a split second after letting off of WOT you might see numbers as high as 16. hope this helps.
