Recently, I have had the use of the fire extinguisher in my car. It is a Halguard unit, worked according to the directions , which at the time I didn't read.. I was busy.. It seems the Fuel took an alternate route other than into the engine.. The man behind me said it was awesome.. ( sorry , no u tube action) as flames lit up the bottom of my car at 60 mph . With a 1.5749 reaction time to the smell of C16, it was too late.. but it wasn't, as off to the side of the road I went.. grab the chrome laden extinguisher and open the hood. Wow, C16 really burns .. Fire out in One second.. WOW... And so to my point.. Do you have a fire extinguisher in your modified car..? YOU BETTER! In my FFR Cobra we have a full suppression system that fogs the engine and the driver legs.. Never thought about that for the GT500. Now I think a 2 stage system with separate fogs for the engine and a second for the driver in case of an OPPS! Really cheap insurance.. You never know when you will need it.. Pete

i think it was the tt car It was and is expected to be in Napierville on Sunday... Brunt of the issue ,, one and two on Pass. side o ring failed and burst.. Significantly dousing the side of the engine bay with C16, after I smelled it the turbos smelled it and had a forceful reaction ensued.. Amazing what flames will do.. No paint damage metal damage.. flames exited passenger trans tunnel.. WOW.. That is why I liked the picture on Flying mile. Damage to wiring harnesses.. nothing burned due to Mikie wrapping all of them away from the motor.. small miracles.. Two harnesses for outside controls were damaged but working on that tonight.( book club on first floor..hiding) , rest if cleaning.. fuel burned quick and clean.. just lucky.. ..Will be installing a 2 step Halon system this winter, just like my FFR. I would like to thank Nelson who went out of his way hrs before flying on Sunday morning to update me with the latest rails. there is no better customer service than that.. Thanks.. Pete |

Sounds like you were really lucky. It could have been way worse. Glad to hear that you had minimal damage and will be back up and running in no time.

For those that are interested,, I use an ESS Fire Suppression system in my Challenge car and only had an hand model in the Shelby.. will be changing to a two stage system in the Shelby... There are many brands of fire suppression systems out there and it would make a great over the winter project for those living in colder climate.. This is one mod I would now personally recommend for everyone.. Very cheap insurance.. Finished redoing a dozen wires last night that couldn't handle the heat.. . On a tech. note, 30 seconds before the fire I hit second gear hard with traction control on , and of course it stumbled ,, wonder if the fuel pressure spiked to unacceptable levels.. The fuel rail was elevated with washers to handle the 80lb injectors.. don't think that was a good idea.. I think it popped them off or it was just a time bomb waiting to happen.. Just happy to be back on the road.. Pete
