Shelby Autos returns to sponsor 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at LVMS

Team Shelby - Shelby Automobiles, a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc. (CSBI:PK), will return in 2010 as the sponsor of the NASCAR Sprint Cup event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Shelby teamed up with LVMS this past March for the Shelby 427. Next year’s event on Feb. 28 will be called the Shelby American to honor the 45th anniversary of the Shelby G.T. 350 and 427 Cobra introductions in 1965.

“We are ecstatic to have the legendary Shelby name on our NASCAR Sprint Cup race for a second consecutive year,” said LVMS President Chris Powell said. “This year’s event was a tremendous success, and we’re looking forward to giving more exposure to the Shelby brand that has, over the years, become synonymous with the best in high-performance cars.”

March’s race was known as the Shelby 427 and featured a 427-mile, 285-lap race. The event will return to its traditional 400-mile, 267-lap distance in 2010.

“Next year will mark an important milestone for two of the most legendary vehicles Shelby ever produced,” said Shelby Autos President Amy Boylan. “The Shelby American NASCAR Sprint Cup event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is the perfect way to celebrate this historic occasion.”

The 2010 NASCAR Weekend will kick off with qualifying for the Shelby American NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on Friday, Feb. 26. The Sam’s Town 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series race is set for Saturday, Feb. 27. Tickets for all 2010 events at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, including the Shelby American on Sunday, Feb. 28, can be purchased by calling 1-800-644-444 or online at www.lvms.com. Neon Garage, Lucky 7 Preferred parking and driver introduction passes also are on sale.

This is great! I had an opportunity to attend last year, courtesy of the folks at Shelby Autos and their "ticket contest". Has anyone heard, or perhaps someone from the "staff" could respond, as to whether there might be an opportunity like last year"s or if there might be a special area available for TS member's purchase?

Well, they had a surplus of tickets last year due to unfilled 427 orders I think, but Im sure a small quantity might be available for something like a contest if I were a betting man...

But then again, I was thinking they would shorten the race to 350 miles for the upcoming Shelby GT350 they will show off there with the new coyote engine!

But that is just a guess of mine...no official word on it. I cant wait to see the next reveal.
