Well this is "MY KR STORY". I've been looking for a KR for about a year but prices were to high and some dealers were not easy to deal with so I waited. I finally find this dealer in Sulligent Alabama that has a Black 2008 KR. I'm a little skeptical, tells me they unloaded the KR and its sat on the Showroom for the last year. Never detailed, still in the wrapper, only one car on the showroom the KR. Sulligent is a town of about 3,000 people so that car has been the "talk of the town" for the last year. Everyone kidded Lee (my salesman) that he'd never sale that $80K dollar Shelby. Well I decided to buy the car and take the 600 mile (one way) trip to Alabama. I felt I had to look it over and not just ship it out. So here's how my day went.

I drove from near Houston and once you hit Mississippi the drive really becomes very nice. Its a beautiful part of our GREAT country. I arrive at the dealership early Saturday morning and Lee is there to greet me. There is also a couple of other gentlemen in the showroom drinking their morning coffee. Its that kind of place you go sit down, have a cup of coffee and share stories about life. One of the guys asked me " Are you that guy from Texas come to buy our Shelby mustang?" I replied yes and we talked a while. The car was as described sitting in the showroom, untouched, roped off, an unbelieveable sight. You see this is an old town dealership that was established back in the 1920's. Family owned for years and then sold to another family in Sulligent with the condition they keep the dealership open. The showroom was only big enough for the KR and behind the KR was the parts counter. It reminded me of something Norman Rockwell would paint if he were going to paint a picture of a small town car dealer. Its the kind of thing that well probably most of us on this website grew up with and is being lost in todays instant society.

Well we get the car out of the showroom, a little tricky since it was so small. The guy accross the street that works at the gas station comes over to say hi and bye to the car. He has a yellow mustang cobra (good looking car) and had spend alot of time in the showroom looking at the black KR. He also came over later and helped me strap down the car in the trailer. I asked him how much did I owe him and of course he said don't worry about it. All in all I had about 15 people come by and talk to me about the car. It had been a part of their life for the last year. Most of them knew I was coming. It spend about 4 hours in Sulligent. 10 minutes doing paperwork, 30 minutes taking pictures, an hour to the load the car, and a couple of other hours was just talking with the fine people in Sulligent, AL. Another funny story to add is my wife was looking for a hotel for me the night before so she gets on the net and finds a website for Sulligent. There is a phone number so she dials the number and someone picks up the phone and says "Ya LO". She tells the man that her husband (me) is coming to sulligent to buy a car and he interupts and says " OH he's the guy coming the buy the KR". He already new I was coming. Small town America is GREAT!

Anyway thats "MY KR STORY". I feel like my car has taken on a history and life of its own and I'm so glad I made the trip. Lee had alot of documentation including info about the lottery they won with Ford and even the shipping info when they received the car. I'll try to upload a couple of pictures that will help describe my experience.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! She is a real beauty, that's for sure.

Please guard the KR specific parts with vigilance. VERY pricey (and challenging) to replace.

May you have many miles of smiles driving your car.

Yeah things went pretty well. I initially tried to load the car w/o removing the splitter and it was going to rub. I appreciated your advice on telling me to take it off rather then trying to load it with it on. Everyone was trying to give me suggestions on how to load it and I just figured it was better to take the advice of someone that just brought their KR home. Thanks again for your help.

No problem. It comes off rather easily. I went one step further and installed the plastic splitter from the GT500 when I got back home. I have the carbon fiber piece stored in the garage loft. I know it's designed for d/force but, i'm not tracking this car at high speeds so it's a moot point for me.
