I'm just getting ready to park my car for the winter(in a heated garage)and I wanted to do something different this year by putting it on a battery tender type device. I killed the battery last year by not starting the car most of the winter. Now a lot of people quote using a battery tender but I'm not sure if you are all talking about the name brand "battery tender" or if you are talking about a certain type of device. Much like a kleenex is both a brand and an item.
I can't find the battery tender brand locally here so I'm wondering if anyone has an opinions on the motomaster intelligent battery chargers as they have a maintenance mode and microprocessor. Would these fit the bill in maintaining the battery at charge? Are they safe to set and forget? Here is a link to the item i'm talking about:

I've used chargers to charge batteries. I've used them to jump cars... however I've never used one to maintain a charge in a battery. So when storing do you disconnect the battery from the car? or do you just hook it up. Any advice in this area would be appreciated.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

From what you say that sounds like what you need, like a battery tender (brand name) it will not overcharge and cook the battery. These devices pay for themselves in no time. It always a good idea to remove the battery from the car during storage also. Good luck

MarkHudd,
Great tip this time of year. Looks like the perfect device for garaged Shelby's. Thanks!

This is a great product. I have 3 of them. This model is the new updated one. It's kind of spendy....but it works great.

Well Texas, Ironically we had an opportunity via work to move to Austin. While we found it very nice, and the house prices where cheap as dirt. The HEAT killed me, you can keep it! Anything over 80 is not for me. Thick polish blood and now it's only thickend in Canada...can't do heat. Skiing and Ice hockey would also be a little harder in texas

I have 3 different kinds; two on my RV batteries and one on my Shelby battery. The Shelby gets the Griots Battery Manager II. The RV batteries get the Schumacher BatteryMaintainer or the BatteryMinder Plus. I think the Schumacher model cost $20 at Wal Mart. They have all performed equally well over that past two years, so far.
