Hello

has anyone with the standard interior, vinyl steering wheel, installed the leather wrapped IUP steering wheel?

if so, who is a good source for buying the wheel from besides the dealer?

I not only did that, I had the IUP dash installed after the fact (we will not discuss how a SGT got ordered without IUP). I got the wheel from a member who had installed a custom wheel. Perhaps another member has done that and will be willing to part with their IUP wheel. Good luck -- it made a ton of difference in driving, both on and off the track.

I would think the non-IUP SGT would be relatively rare...

You are right, Dan. It is extremely rare. But there is good rare (like a steak) and there is no so good rare (like a SGT). All the kidding aside, I actually prefer the standard interior now that I have the IUP instrument cluster and information center, along with the steering wheel.

I have one sitting in the basement as I swapped it out for a Bullitt wheel and it is like new (removed at 3.5K). Let me know if you are interested.

I also have the standard interior (early 2007, #384) but added the GT500 steering wheel and leather shift boot. I also have the Shelby gauge pod. I tried to install the cluster but the dealer couldn't figure out how to get the tire pressure sensor light to stay off. He just couldnt get it right so I had him put the original back in. The whole experience cost me $400 for nothing. I like the standard dash but would like the cluster. Maybe another dealer could get it right but I'm not going to do it now. I also have Shelby's sig on the air bag cover. So the interior looks cool but I don't have the cluster.

Believe me, I feel your pain on the cluster issue. If you are ever interested in doing it, let me know. Your profile does not provide your geographic location so I do not know how close you might be to me.

There is a Mustang forum other than this one (don't remember which one right now and I am at work and cannot check) where a Ford Service Manager figured out the retrofit of the cluster and has been a Saint in sharing what he knows with anyone who wishes to have it. My local dealer did the retrofit for me and accessed him at least once to get things right and they did a great job.

Fairly sure you are referring to The Mustang Source and Kevin Casey from Clevenger Ford as he is super helpful and has a wealth of knowledge that he is always willing to share!

I don't have the IUP either. I would sure be interested in upgrading the steering wheel, guages, and possibly adding the info center as well. Interesting information.

Doogie,

You are right on. I was able to find the thread on mustangsource.com that addresses this issue. Here is the link. http://forums.themus...ycolor+retrofit

Kevin is one of those guys I have never met but would sure buy him dinner for all the headaches I have avoided because he is the kind of guy he is.

How is the sig on the black plastic airbag cover working out?? I have been wanting to get one, but have my doubts as to how it will show up and/or stay on the standard interior airbag cover. Have been thinking about getting a satin one with autograph and putting into my standard interior

Kevin Casey is a great guy. I ordered a Bullitt steering wheel from Kevin to replace my IUP wheel...

I cleaned the cover with alcohol before I shipped it and when I got it it looks like Shelby uses a real good permanent marker to sign it with so it's permanent for sure! I also clear coated it with Krylon clear matte acrylic spray with 5 or 6 coats before I installed it. Looks great and is a mod all of us need to do!

Couple of questions for you guys that have traveld these roads.
1. what is IUP
2. How does the airbag cover come off?

My SGT is 3131 and is the barest of bones of interiors I have seen. Actually i liked it that way due to the race hertiage of the 65 and 66 models however if I could make improvments that I like and then take the car back to orignal if ever needed that would be great.

thanks,
-Billy

He emntioned something about a discount for TS members. http://www.designera...ringWheels.aspx

My camera doesn't do a good job (cheap) but Shelby uses a large silver marker and his sig is beautiful. It almost fills the top half of the air bag cover.

Billy
IUP: Interior Upgrade Package, from what I have seen, it consists of a leather wrapped steering wheel w/ alum covered spoke covers and an alum or carbon fiber looking dash panel. there is also a few extra gauges and a few other bells and whistles.

airbag, I think its just a matter of unplugging the battery and unplugging a few connectors. not sure about that, but there is info on this on some mustang websites.

when I was SGT shopping I had the opportunity to get a base SGT with cloth interior but the leather equipped car was the better deal with fewer miles and was located here in Texas. However, my car has a vinyl steering wheel and I want to upgrade to the leather wrapped IUP wheel.

Thanks much,

This explains what I have seen on the other cars. While I thought I had a bare bones sgt i guess i'm wrong. I did not know they made one with the cloth interior as mine is the leather type.

I do like the IUB package as explained. I thought about going the carbon fiber package but have not moved forward on that.

I guess I need to get the airbag cover sent in for the signature, if for nothing else just because it seems like it would be a good thing to have CS signature on the car somewhere.

thanks,
-Billy
