Anyone here have any experience with the Dodge Challenger? I am looking to update my boring Honda Accord and this is on my list. I will also see what is announced for the 2011 Mustang. I live in New England, but am confident Winter Tires/Wheels will be fine.

I am looking at the R/T Classic.

I certainly wouldn't want to attempt to drive a Challenger in the snow, even with winter tires.

By the way, Herbee Dodge is only about 8 miles from!!

I was thinking the same thing, but everything I read says RWD with Winter Tires is better than AWD with All Season Tires. Right now I have FWD with All Season Tires, every test I have seen has RWD w/winter tires superior to FWD w/all seasons in every aspect except Dry Road in the Winter.

And as far as salt and sand, it washes of a Challenger the same way it washes off any other car.

I don't see cops get stuck very often in their rwd cruisers. I drive a 2wd Ranger and put 300 pounds in the back every winter and haven't got stuck yet, even as bad as last winter was. Why not just buy a beater for the winter and save your dough for the good car?

I only have a 2 car garage and at this time it only has the Shelby in it. I am not looking at having more than 3 cars or adding another toy, if I had a 3 car garage that may be different. I drive to much to have a beater. I have a Honda Accord, but it is boring. My other option, which would probably make more sense up in New England, is an AWD Mercedes, Audi, or BMW. I keep reading about Winter tires making all the difference in the world, more so than AWD.

Well,

I was going to buy the SRT*, but since it drove like a pregnant yak,,, I gave up on it..I test drove the Shelby and was sold..
Now, I have to say, AWD is better than any rear wheel drive car I have driven,,,and that includes snow.. My brother had a Subaru Legacy GT in Pittsburg never got stuck... Ok, if you really want an awsome car, AWD an not give money to a bailed out company, exudes performance etc etc,,,go with the New Taurus SHO, it is one badas% ride! it will tear up a stock SGT... there is one here and I look at it every day, though I will not trade.. I have to say, had the SHO and the Shelby been side by side on the lot at the time, my head would have exploded trying to decide.. The only downfall I have have found is there isn't any performance parts out for it yet,,,,loads for the SGT though.. A pilot buddy of mine just dropped down the 36k on one... I am gonna hit him up for a real teast drive in Germany!!

Judgeman6970 has a Shelby GT, and bought a Challenger from Herbee Dodge that he uses as his daily driver. We're both 10 miles or so from Herbee Dodge! :happy feet: You should send him a PM. I haven't seen him around lately, so he may not see the post.

Funny you mention that, I did not even read this yet and checked out the SHO yesterday. Very nice car indeed. I may just go that route, will wait for the 0 percent interest though. They are already discounting them $3k plus $1000 cash back, 0 percent interest and Invoice should be right around the corner. I still need to drive one. I am not in a rush and if I go SHO want to wait a little bit for any bugs to be worked out as well.

Great Idea

Not sure if you're interested but there is a used 2008 SRT-8 at Dallas Dodge for 36k with 21k miles.
My wife was shopping for a V-6 Challenger as a DD and I got a chance to look it over.

I'd go with the SHO for winter driving for sure. The RT is underpowered in the summer and overpowered for the slick winter roads.
I love the looks of the new Challengers, but for what you're looking for, I'd say it's probably the wrong car, regardless of tread. Good luck either way

Starting to feel the same way. I drive a lot, I do love the features on the SHO. The Adaptive Cruise, Heated/Cooled Seats that Massage, Blind Spot warning, and more. The way I want it is $45k, but X-plan is $40k and I am confident 0% for 60 months will not be that far off. That is with every single option, no other car in its class offers even close to the same equipment.

I hear you, but I could never buy the SRT-8 when the GT500 is only a few K more.

To answer your original question Srt 8 auto would be a good daily driver ve got one that my wife drives some and its an easy driver The weight with the right tires would work well in snow As far as performance its way short of a Shelby but a good cruise car, comfortable ride

Still handles like a pregnant Yak! My Dodge Ram 2500 felt more solid in the corners...I think Dodge got it wrong with the Challenger.. Maybe had they did more with the suspension I would think differently, oh and the weight, I would have bought the car..

The SHO is it! It is true, the Taurus SHO has alot of options that others can't touch for the price...

Go SHO! A much better winter vehicle and a great cruisemobile with kick for the rest of the year. No sense supporting failed government bailouts or FIAT.
