Just opened her up. Started banging at 155-160 in 5th gear and not even near redline. 6th gear is not for top speed. I know I am not telling you guys anything new and I hope this topic has not been beatin' to death. The Shelby wanted to go ALOT faster until the limiter kicked in. #1 How do you remove the limiter? #2 Will this car take flight over 160 without mods? #3 I was on a very safe stretch of road so no bashing me on being reckless! Just wondering if this car can do 175 - 180 without any ill effects on aerodynamics? I did 194 MPH in my Ford Gt on this same stretch but I ran out of room because of a slight bend in the road. What about warranty if there is a way to defeat the limiter? Just throwing this out there. I live for speed but don't won't to die for it so please don't bash me!! Denohew

previuos poster had info on top speed, think it was samg.He topped out at I think 168.At some point aeros will kick in,and you wont be able tp push the air, thats why your GT went that fast, aero.

For the 2010 GT500 the gear ratios, tire diameter, and redline lead to around a 192 MPH top speed in fifth gear. The car does not however have the HP stock to get there. Considering this stock HP constraint it is probably good for around 185 MPH or so with a long enough run -- at least 1.5 miles plus. Think you would need around 590 HP or so at the flywheel to get to the 190ish number with a long run. Sixth gear is useless for anything but econo cruising.

Regarding your top speed question -- I did about 168 MPH in a standing mile event last month in the Miami area. This appears to be something of the record for a stock GT500 in such an event. Check out this thread for details: http://www.teamshelb...showtopic=49354. Your question about getting the speed limiter removed -- easily done with a simple SCT-based tune while having everything else remain stock.

With respect to speeds higher than 168ish, the car felt stable near 170 MPH but don't think I am going try it again or anything higher without some mods like lowering the car, watts link, Y+ rated tires. Am also search for something to do about the hood to stabilize it at higher speeds.

I know from my GM Master Tech training that the Mfgr. limits speed to 5 mph *under* the OEM tire rating. That keeps them from getting sued if some idjit goes out and does 180mph on a tire rated at 150mph.

I was also told that you can disable the limiter through a series of button pushes in the car (kind of like cheat codes on a playstation). The dealer told me what they were but I wasn't listening as I didn't have any intention of driving that fast. In one ear, out the other...

I may go back and ask the kid what the series is agian, just to see if it works.

Someone here may know but they aren't likely to post it publically (for fear of being sued?).

Anyone?
