I was curious what other people are seeing in their local markets for prices. A local dealer here in Atlanta has the exact vehicle I have been searching for. I offered $50K via email over the weekend not knowing the exact MSRP but guessing $55K +/-. Based on the current economy and my knowledge of the Shelby market, I didn't think 10% off MSRP was a terrible offer. What are you guys seeing out there for prices?

check out the response, I got:
"Michael, as you may or may not know this is a limited production vehicle and everywhere you see these cars they are selling at or well over the MSRP--and dealers are getting it. We buy these GT500 from all over the US and we sell and ship them all over the World. I just had this car listed on EBay at $59,765 and almost sold her, but no one met the reserve price. I will sell the GT500 to you for the MSRP-- which is $56,270."

SEARCH AND SEND THIS ON TO MICHAEL MORRIS(mm) ON THIS SITE. HE IS ONE OF THE BEST RESOURCES TO GET YOU THE BEST PRICE AND ACTUALLY DELIVER from what I have been reading since last year here. I am up here in Canada and did pay msrp when it came in July. Others form what I have read have been paying under msrp. Good luck.

Please tell me the name of this dealer. I will drive mine over there, tell him that plenty of deals being cut for under MSRP, and before he can say B.S. I will show him my paperwork and watch his jaw hit the floor. lol

I am just in a grumpy mood today, and looking to spread the love.... :happy feet:

Dont know exactly what your looking for, but I do know theres NOT 10% markup on a GT500. I have a car that should be here at anytime.

Im NOT going to sell it at INVOICE, but this will let you know how much mark up is on the car

Invoice 46990.24
MSRP 51270.00

10% markup would put MSRP at 51600+-

So I dont blame them for NOT taking your offer. I know the market is down, but these cars are still sellling. GT500s arent F150s. Right now GT500s are one of the FEW new cars that we can still make a decent profit on. Im with yall on trying to get the best deal! I do the same thing when I buy something, but what is a FAIR profit on a 47K investment?

If I can help you find something please let me know

I agree, I don't begrudge the dealer for trying to make as much money as the can on this vehicle. I was kind of taken back by their decision to not negotiate at all though. I told them I hope they can sell it at MSRP and wished them well. if they decide to make a deal, I'm here willing and ready

I understand from the dealer side about sticking to MSRP. If its the ONLY car they have or the ONLY car they are going to get, but if they have a couple there and a couple more coming. These things get expensive just sitting here!!

About profit, explain dealer hold back for us. I know on my car dealer hold back was $1200-1400. And as most here know I paid $200 over invoice on my car. So if you pocket dealer hold back you are already up. But if not please explain how this works. Can get $1500 under MSRP as I type this. So I know for a fact the days of MSRP+ are past. Until next year then we do this all again.

Uhhh, $56,270 is *not* MSRP. He added $5,000 on top of MSRP.

I have my window sticker in-hand and MSRP on my car was $51,270.
That includes;

Standard Vehicle Price: $46,325

Add:
Gas Guzzler Tax: $1,000
HID Headlamps: $525
DZ Elec. A/C Electronics: $2,195
Shelby GT500 Car Cover: $375
TOTAL OPTIONS $4,095

Vehicle & Options: $50,420

Destination & Deliery: $850

TOTAL MSRP: $51,270.00

I found my car using the Internet. I went to the Ford site and "built my own", then put in a request to check inventory.
I wanted Kona Blue with White stripes, HID's, Electronics and Car cover.
I got a call from Ford Mo. Co. the next mourning asking me what they had to do to get me into that car. I told them, FIND ME ONE *exactly* like I want and without ANY added Dealer mark-up.

A few minutes later my *local* dealer (Phil Long Ford) sent me a e-mail saying "I have that exact car coming in tomorrow". I made a appointment and drove 6 miles to the dealer. It was in transit (via rail) and was in MO. It obviously wasn't going to be here "tomorrow". I looked at the window sticker to make sure it was *exactly* what I was looking for. It was, but......

The dealer also had a Kona Blue Roush 427R sitting on the floor. Optioned up with a MSRP just above what the GT was at. I wanted to see the GT500 and the Roush sitting side-by-side before I committed to either car.

I had a trip to CA planned and the car wouldn't arrive until about half-way into my trip. I put a $1,000 deposit on A CAR (still wasn't sure if I wanted the Roush or the GT500) and said I'd make the decision when I got back.

While I was in CA the dealer called me and said he had *another* GT500 coming in that would be here when I got back. It was Black/Silver.

So when I got back I had 3 cars to pick from.

The two GT500's were originally ordered for customers that put deposits on them but backed out of the deal (buyers remorse, if you ask me). Both were sold at MSRP but to be more than honest, I feel like I probably could have negotiated *something* else out of them (either a reduced price or a % discount with Ford Racing parts).

The same dealer has had two more GT500's (a Kona Blue w/Stripe delete & a Grabber Blue/White) come in since then and they've contacted me to ask if I know anyone who wants them.

During my search I found *many* dealers within reasonable driving distance who were selling GT500's *at* MSRP. Some were trying to add dealer mark-up and they were the ones I wasn't talking to!

Point is, they are out there and they are plentyful. And they are at MSRP!

Tell your guy to stick it, unless you really REALLY want that particular car. It's just not worth the added mark-up.

Dealer hold back...

Let's say a dealer in City A has a car that a dealer in City X has a customer for.
Dealer X finds the car at Dealer A and ships it/drives it from City A to City X.
Dealer A keeps the hold-back amount while dealer X gets the mark-up (over invoice) amount.

BUT....if you special order a car from Dealer X he gets the hold-back AND the mark-up. So you can actually get a car "for invoice" and the dealer still makes money (the amount of hold-back). They just won't tell you that, so they can make as much as possible.

if you're in no rush, wait till all the cars are on the lot, drive to the dealership and show them you are serious....as Michael said, your original offer may be alittle low, but it shouldn't be that far off from working out a deal if they really want to sell the car.

unfortunately, they might be willing to sit on it rather than sell it, as so many dealers did with the 07-09's, in hopes to make the most they can...

OHHHHHHhhhh, DOH!

I hate it when that happens.

Yeah, add $5K for a drop-top.

So he's right at MSRP.

There are added costs to dealers to be able to handle SVT vehicles from Ford, MSRP is not a bad deal...

You are correct about the added cost. Ford charges each dealer $1K for getting a GT500. That gets you ONE car. If you get more than one then you can split it between each car you get.

Ill try to explait it.

Ford gives the ORDERING dealer about 3.5% BACK. So the more expensive the car the more the holdback. So on the car that I priced earlier the holdback is 1500. But heres were folks get confused. The car I have coming in was ANOTHER dealers allocation. Since he spent $1K to be able to get a GT500 hes KEEPING the holdback on the car. So I will have INVOICE in the car. Im having it dropped shipped here by Ford so there NO delivery fee.

But ONLY the ordering dealer gets the HOLDBACK. Now the rest of the story!!! :hysterical:

Dealer start paying INTEREST on a car as soon as its BUILT! Not when we get it. On avg the GT500 takes almost a month from being built to arrive at the store. So right off the bat we have a months interest on 47K. That will pretty much eat all the holdback.

Im not trying to make yall feel bad for dealers!!! Whatever rep we as dealers have most of them deserve!

If yall have other questions let me know
