How much boost is safe on the stock blower? I was told that with my 2.65 VMP pulley, JLT CAI and tune I am pushing 14lbs of boost. Seems high to me and a bit of a concern if that is the case. Just curious what others thoughts are that know more about the stock blower than I.

Thanks,
Jim

More like 12-13 lbs of boost. Tons of people have done it without issue. However, upgrading your heat exchanger with the smaller pulley is definitely a good idea. Also, if you have an '07, upgrading to an '08 dampener pulley is worthwhile. It's much lighter and highly recommended when upgrading superchargers.

I ran the 2.6 upper as well as the IW 10% OD lower for about a year with no issues. I did however have an upgraded heat exchanger. At 6250 RPM (factory rev limiter) you are turning about 16745 blower rpm, I was at 18750, and there are guys that have used the steggy front drive mod which can give you a 2.2 upper therefore giving a blower speed of 22160 rpm :eek5: and I have NEVER heard of an Eaton M122 failing. If anybody else has please chime in.

Basically you are fine where you are at. But I would recommend getting an aftermarket heat exchanger, cause your IAT's will be getting pretty high. Just my $.02!

I have a M122 with the steggy 2.2 front drive mod. Runs 18psi. Been running this combo for 2 years and 20,000 miles now. The Revan racing heat exchanger helped ALOT with the high discharge temps but the combo runs great for a stock blower. No troubles with the blower at all.

Have many folks run the 2.65 VMP pulley without upgrading the heat exchanger?

Not denying it's a REALLY good idea to do. Just wondering for a just street use GT500, that would not be hitting redline very often at all. Just want that extra jump there on those occasions when I do punch it.

I'm running 14.2lbs of boost on my stock blower with the modifications you see in my signature.

As far as the heat exchanger goes Skip, I've heard nothing but good things about upgrading it. After my car was tuned by MV Performance, I spent the weekend driving it. Needless to say, at one point, I went to get on it going down the interstate and it didn't feel as strong....heat soak!

Thanks for the reply's guys. I am going to upgrade the heat exchange and radiator soon, but for now I'm only street driving and not too hard, so heat soak has not been much of an issue.

Even easy street driving can build up enough heat where the computer starts to pull timing, and that extra jump may not be there when you want it or need it. Upgrade the HE before or at the same time as doing the 2.6 pulley.

Rats!

The cost for a smaller pulley is starting to add up. :censored:

OK, any thoughts on a good Heat Exchanger?

When you do the rad and HE don't forget to get a Reisch 170 deg thermostat.

I'm running a 2.6 Metco pulley and haven't upgraded my heat exchanger yet. I will this spring for sure but have been able to get away with it for a while. I even tracked my car once with the smaller pulley on a real hot day and didn't have any problems, although I was certainly pulling timing.

Bottom line is the wallet allowed for the pulley swap last year and will allow for the heat exchanger this year. It would have been ideal to do them both at the same time, but things aren't always ideal. You can definitely run the pulley without a heat exchanger upgrade and not hurt anything, but the upgraded heat exchanger really is a must for the long term. Modding incrementally is the reality for most of us........so GO FOR IT! :peelout:

I had a 2.6 pulley, CAI, tune. When i first bought my car. I made probably 40 to 50 passes at the local track. One Sunday i raced off and on all day. It was about 85 to 90 degrees out. I hot lapped my car for 4 maybe 5 times. Never lost even a 10th of a second off my 1/4 times. Ran consistent 11.50's all day. So @ 14 lb's you don't need a new heat exchanger. At least not for short 1/4 mile type drag racing. If you run straight water and water wetter you could probably get away with a little more boost. With out any problems.

Awesome! Glad to hear it. John Griggs from Griggs Racing told me the same thing. I really don't need the H/E right now, but if and when I start to track the car a lot, I "may" want to consider it so that I don't get heat soak. The amount of power I picked up equates to 161 rwhp over stock! At this point I really don't see the need to upgrade my supercharger and want to keep this setup as long as possible, thus cooling is in my future.

I feel your pain brother. I struggle just paying for gas after the car and insurance notes. Decide which route you want to go with the HE and then start saving for it. Get the best you can, even if it means saving 6 months for it. You'll be living with it for a while. You'll be happier saving up for a good one rather than if you settle now because of price. Or you'll be like me, stuck with one that's not quite up to par. It's hard to justify $750 for a new one when you've already sunk $400 in one. No brand names, but you can probably figure 'em out.
