Thanks to Dan Schoneck I have upgraded to a Darton big bore block. I guess 358 cid with stock stroke is the common displacement. Now I just need more $$$$.

When I bought my GT500's I was going to leave them stock but when Ford decided to build 20K plus of them I figured I might as well have some fun!

So technically this is Ford's fault then. :hysterical:

It's starting to look like I might have to!

We will see, it is getting pointless trying to keep it how it is. I think there is a cage and harness in my future.

Think I'll be sitting this one out for a while, looks thin to me also, really thin and what bout the heads, I would like to see larger combustion chambers with larger valves, then we would be talking. I had larger exhaust valves installed in mine but 1 mm was the largest Fox Lake could go, due to no room. Bill

We can rationalize almost anything if we dwell on it long enough. So far, I have rationalized about 15k in additional parts for my GT500. And I know, compared to many others, this is a drop in the bucket!

I honestly didn't even really get a chance to check it out that good. My Service writer has been off and the block came in towards the end of yesterday. I am working the service desk right now, tomorrow I will have more time and will post up some of the details.

Thanks Steve
Also the sleeve conversion is done by darton, You were close Steve:) The bore is now going to be 3.70 versuse 3.552, So realistically you are only losing .148 thou difference inbetween the cylinders. I know of a couple mod motors using the boss mod blocks with 3.7 bore running 88mm turbos at over 30lbs of boost with no issues. We are going todo a couple other things also to aid in head gasket seal. Cometic makes a specific gasket for these sleeves. Also as far as the cylinder heads go, there is really no mods that need to be done to the combustion chamber when going to these sleeves and also the gt heads flow good enough they dont need larger valves and no one makes a exhaust valve with the same back cut as stock so when you switch the exhaust valves to aftermarket valves they actually flow less with a bigger valve. Just making the bore bigger helps the heads out tremendously.
Also even on a 800hp motor the extra cubes will be worth 65hp. Its not cheap but when is hp at this level.

Dan

P.s Steve did you post a pic of the Billet crank yet?:)

Depends on haw many part you will /can/ want to use from your current engine.
If you are going all new 15K will get you started but plan on dropping a some where close to 25 to 30k+ any labor or shop time.

They’re not cheep; but you will have a far better engine they what you started with.
You will learn the old saying is so very true
"If you want to play, you gots to pay".
Pay till it hurts :banghead:
Then go have fun! :hysterical:
What the heck you only live once. :happy feet:

Thanks Dan for clearing up the Dart vs Darton....oops! Shows you how new I am to this block! I will post up some pic's of the crank tomorrow and like I said in my previous post I might actually get more than a couple of minutes to look it over!

I modified the original post so I don't confuse any more people than I probably have!

Well I was doing a search on Darton Sleeves. Seems they are pretty popular and have done Ford GT blocks. Here is a link to a short article I found. I just keep learning new stuff since I got my GT500's.
