  1. The original, factory covers work fine. Soft enough not to scratch and breathe just fine for an indoor dust cover. Still have mine on the car since new (got dealer to throw it in). It is a little slick though, making it tough to put on a freshly waxed car without sliding off. ^_^

  4. I like ‘em all. Mine happens to be black. Wouldn’t kick any of ‘em out of the garage though. ^_^ Years ago, many others had the same questions about which to get - the ‘08 with the cool “anniversary” badges, or the ‘09, which supposedly had the better flywheel in most of ‘em, and the funky, modded Exploder diff cover (not all ‘08s had it). I think that at this point, it makes no real difference. Condition / mileage of the car is what matters most, followed by whether it’s been tastefully modded or not (did Mr. Shelby scribble on anything?), also the original paperwork and all the goodies it came with... I still have most of the stuff mine was supposed to have and it’s still mostly stock. My brake cooling kit is still new in the box. Either year would be just fine; my KR is an ‘09.
  5. A few KRs will lose wheels from unfriendly curb incidents. I imagine more people are building KR clones, too. Chances are pretty slim that ALCOA will ever do another run of these in 18”, so prices are bound to climb. Thing is though, there was an abundance of these after KR production ended - and Ford Racing blew ‘em out cheaply. Some of us picked up a spare set in case we ever needed it. I was just wondering if prices had climbed enough to give me that warm, fuzzy feeling - my spare set is still new in the box.
  6. Has anyone seen a new set of four sell recently? Just wondering what they go for these days. Took a look at ebay sold listings and see no sets have recently sold.
  7. They’re only worth having on a show car but as others have said. - old rubber just won’t be safe (or work very well) if you push the car at all. I also think they weren’t the best tires available, even when fresh and new.

  10. There are still plenty of the KR wheels around... They'll pop up when the prices for 'em go up. How do I know..? That's when everyone sitting on the spares will sell. ^_^
  11. Being post-title allows for aftermarket mods anyone can make without DOT being involved, pretty much at your own risk. The GT500s that were turned into SS/40th had already been sold and registered. I suspect the KR duct kits weren't installed because they weren't part of what was submitted to DOT for road certification. Maybe they were considered too crude, or maybe the parts were just an afterthought, considered necessary during further testing after the car was already submitted to DOT for certification.

  13. I bought my '09 brand new and don't give a rat's behind about what any troll like sideoiler / kxbyrns0mj72h53 says they should be worth. My car doesn't care either. I'm sure he'll end up buying a cheap one someday, but it likely will have been wrecked or abused, or changed hands several times before it's finally his. Not what I wanted in a KR, so I bought new (and got a fairly good deal when I did). I wasn't interested in cheap; just nice and clean.
  14. Please go haunt the Corvette forums and stop trying to annoy Shelby owners. Nobody cares what you think our cars (which apparently you don't have) are worth or will ever be worth. Maybe your Honda Civic needs a bigger wing... Why not go out and have a look?
  15. Is anyone really surprised? Not even a KR owner, but he sure has plenty of opinion about them. I was waiting to see if (when) he'd ooze in before I posted about buying my KR in this thread. Oh well. He's only here to ruffle feathers. I'd bet he goes back to the 'vette forums to gloat on his latest trolling expeditions.

They even sound OK on the 4.6 cars, but for some reason, more "exotic" on the 4 valve engines. I ran a set on my '08 Bullitt (3V 4.6) for a couple of years, but have since changed to something quieter (Shelby/JBA 4" tip chambered).
  17. To answer a couple cuestions... I put the green plug in to keep the dirt out of the threads. It just pushes in and was something I'd kept in my tool box to cap brake lines with. This axle assy, while the same part # as the KR used, is actually in my '08 Bullitt. The Bullitt and KR shared the same factory 3.73 assy straight from Ford. Only difference was that SAI installed an aluminum cover (sourced from Explorer, then modified) on the KR, along with the KR's axle expansion tank. The bullitt came with neither the aluminum cover nor the expansion tank, and had only a rattle vent on the right axle tube. The 1800 paint was there from the factory and I guess was assembly line marking. I'm just letting the rear tubes rust for now; maybe I'll pull the assy and paint it in the future. Corrosion of the aluminum cover is something I hadn't considered. Thanks for that, I'll keep an eye on it. The bolts are a 300 series stainless. Maybe I'll pick up a spare cover, just in case. I don't think I'll have any issues for a long time, but I'll watch it now that I'm aware. Neither my Bullitt nor the KR are driven daily, and rarely in bad (wet) weather. Those ARP bolts are 5/16"-18 x 1.25" long. ARP # 612-1250. They come with stainless washers and in 5 bolts / washers per pack (need 2 packs). I got mine from Summit within a couple days.
  18. Thanks again. It went on today with 1-1/4" long, stainless ARP hardware and blue threadlocker. BTW- for the vent I used a -4 AN fitting with one end turned on the lathe to take a piece of 5/16" fuel hose, then a small, cheap fuel filter to keep the dirt out. Weighs a tiny bit more than the rattle vent, but cost less than $5 - the AN fitting was a freebie.
  19. Hi folks, I just picked up one of the finned aluminum diff covers, supposedly the type used on GT500 '13-'14 cars with Track Pack. I'm upgrading my '08 Bullitt, which came with the stamped steel cover, and would like to know what length bolts to use (guessing they're either 1-1/8" or 1-1/4"). Also, is there a reasonably priced Ford factory bolt available for the application, or should I just go with some ARP and Loctite 'em? Thanks for any help.
  20. It's 28 degrees outside right now; a few degrees warmer tonight than the past two. I'm sure the Mustangs are happy to have the garage heater. Only thing they got this Christmas was a dose of Stabil fuel preservative. ^_^
