DETROIT – Jan. 15, 2013 – Shelby American, Inc., a division of Carroll Shelby International (CSBI.PK), unveiled today its new 850 horsepower 2013 Shelby GT500 Super Snake “Wide Body” as well as the new performance tuned Shelby Focus ST at the North American International Auto Show. The two cars represent bookends in the lineup of high performance vehicles available from Shelby American.

“Carroll Shelby’s innovative and aggressive hot-rodder spirit lives on at Shelby American today. ” said John Luft, president of Shelby American. “His Cobra redefined the sports car genre and then Shelby turned what some called a ‘secretary’s car’, the Mustang, into the fire-breathing GT350. A few years later, Shelby practically invented the American ‘pocket-rocket’ with the four-cylinder turbocharged, front wheel drive Shelby GLH. This year, we’re returning to our roots with a pair of game-changing cars that will rewrite the rules for American performance.”

Shelby American takes the stock 662 horsepower 2013 GT500 and boosts its performance to a street-legal 850 horsepower while keeping it 50 state emissions legal and tuned on 91 octane pump gas. Adding Shelby’s new Wide Body option puts all that power to the pavement, and the rest is history.

“Now with 13 inch rear and 10 inch front wheels that are wrapped in serious rubber, the car launches and handles like the super car it is,” added Gary Davis, vice president of production at Shelby American. The optional wide body package isn’t just a cosmetic change, it now gives the Super Snake much more traction and makes it easy to exploit the Shelby’s potential right past the competition.”

Customers can choose between Satin Black, Gloss White, Silver, Blue and Red stripes. Offered now for the first time, wheel options include a rear-only or front and rear “wide body” packages.

Even though the new Wide Body Super Snake will have the chops to lead the muscle car pack, it is the return of Carroll Shelby’s beloved “Pocket Rocket” that may be the biggest news in Detroit.

Shelby Introduces 850 HP Wide body Monster and New Pocket Rocket (2/2)

“Carroll Shelby ignored critics who said the turbo four Omni couldn’t be an affordable performance car in the 1980s,” noted Gary Patterson, vice president of Operations/Sales. “He proved them wrong with an impressive, lightweight four cylinder performer. Ford Motor Company’s new Focus ST is the perfect platform for the rebirth of the front wheel drive turbo four cylinder Shelby. It is a car that Carroll wanted to build before his passing and is a worthy successor to his ‘Pocket-Rocket’ GLH.”

Designed in the Shelby skunkworks and tested extensively at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the front wheel drive Shelby Focus ST is a driver-focused masterpiece of performance with a budget minded price.

New Ford Racing suspension pieces lower the car while the wheels and tires improve grip and traction. The bigger Shelby spec brakes with drilled rotors enhance the stopping power; along with the sound of the Shelby/Borla exhaust makes it uniquely Shelby. Inside, the car has a complete Shelby branded custom interior, Shelby shifter and finished off with the unique Shelby CSM badge. On the outside, the Shelby is easily identified by its functional hood vents, hydro-carbon front and rear grille inserts, Shelby lettering and rear Hydro-carbon spoiler. Three visual graphics packages are offered, ranging from “traditional” Shelby stripes to more edgy Shelby checkered flag splash or competition graphics. Under the hood, Shelby American adds stylish hydro-carbon components and is developing an optional performance tune expected to significantly increase horsepower.

The post-title package for the 2013 Shelby GT500 Super Snake starts at $28,995 (662 hp) and $39,995 (850 hp). The wide body option adds another $17,995, not including the base GT500. The 2013 Shelby Focus ST post-title package begins at $14,995 not including the Ford Focus ST and will be limited to 500 per model year.

Shelby American is now accepting orders for the limited edition cars. Interested parties should contact their sales team at (702) 942-7325 or visit.

  2. Official Shelby Response

"The press release issued by Planet Cobra is a libelous document issued by a dealer who entered into a dealer agreement with Shelby American over four years ago and made substantial profits on orders for Cobra vehicles. Now unfortunately he finds it necessary to sue after Shelby demanded payment on past due invoices.

In 2010, Carroll Shelby personally made a substantial personal loan to Mr. Steven Becker, the owner of Planet Cobra, to help him meet his financial obligations. If Mr. Shelby were alive today, he would be terribly disappointed with Mr. Becker.

Shelby American will vigorously defend the fictitious claims set forth in Planet Cobra's press release and lawsuit, which reads like it came from a different planet."

  3. Latest Shelby Performance Parts Boost Style and Superior Handling

For 2005-2013 Ford Mustang and Shelby Cars

    All images available upon request

Las Vegas – Sept. 28, 2012 – Shelby Performance Parts, a division of Shelby American, a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc., (CSBI.PK) has introduced several new parts to add style and performance to the 2005-2010 Mustang GT, 2005-2013 Mustang and Shelby Mustangs, 2012-2013 Boss 302 and 2007-2013 Shelby GT500. The fresh product lineup features polished aluminum Shelby 4.6L Racing Valve Covers to add some shine to the engine bay, as well as some high performance parts; including a Shelby Aluminum 7 Quart Racing Baffled Oil Pan, Shelby Billet Watts Link and Shelby Rear Shock Tower Braces that will dramatically improve engine performance and vehicle handling capabilities.

“Shelby Performance Parts enables Mustang and Shelby owners to tailor their ride for great looks, as well as high performance,” said John Luft, president of Shelby American. “The parts group offers pieces engineered and designed to put our customers well ahead of the pack.”

Whether one is transforming their Shelby for the track, or just want to add some tasteful upgrades to the engine bay, the Shelby 4.6L Racing Valve Covers will fit the bill. Made from superior ultra-lightweight aluminum, these valve covers resist heat warp and are designed to seal perfectly against the engine’s heads. These covers also sport the famous Shelby Racing logo engraved onto the top and include all the mounting hardware needed for a simple bolt-on installation for 2005-2010 Mustang GT and 2007-2008 Shelby GT’s.

Attacking corners on the track, aggressive braking and spirited driving on a winding road can potentially create oil starvation to the stock oil pump, introducing air into the engine’s oiling system and dangerously dropping oil pressure. The Shelby Aluminum 7 Quart Racing Baffled Oil Pan will prevent this problem with innovative trap doors that close during hard cornering and braking to keep the oil pickup tube completely submerged at all times. The pan is designed to fit any 2007-2012 Shelby with the Ford GT500 5.4L engine without clearance issues and has the capacity to hold seven quarts of oil.

The Shelby Billet Watts Link is a must-have for serious enthusiasts who are looking to dramatically tighten up their suspension for competitive driving. This setup allows the live rear axle of a Shelby or Mustang to move vertically while preventing lateral motion, which decreases chassis roll in and out of hard corners. CNC cut out of high grade billet aluminum, the Shelby Billet Watts Link is completely street friendly, yet strong enough to withstand the abuse of all types of driving. The piece will fit 2005-2013 Ford and Shelby Mustang coupes, as well as the 2012-2013 Boss 302 Mustang, and comes with all the necessary mounting hardware.

In addition to the Watts Link, Shelby American is offering a Shelby Rear Shock Tower Brace that bolts directly onto the rear shock towers to further stiffen the chassis and enhance handling characteristics of a Mustang or Shelby. The brace helps prevent the chassis from deflecting in and out of corners and also during hard launches. Available in a powder coat silver or natural finish, the Shelby Rear Shock Tower Brace can be installed using simple hand tools to any 2005-2013 Mustang or Shelby and can also be welded in for permanent installations.

“Whether you’re upgrading your Shelby to be a mean contender on the track or just looking to add some shine to your engine bay, we’ve got you covered,” added Shelby Performance Parts Vice President Jer Gervasi. “Our customers expect top-of-the-line quality from the Shelby brand. The parts in this lineup are all made with the highest quality lightweight aluminum and are superior in strength and functionality. Our Shelby Performance Parts team is committed to designing, manufacturing and delivering parts that will outperform the competition.”

When you want to take your car to the next level on the track this Shelby Track Pack will take you there and beyond. This suspension system is a complete make-over for your car and will make it handle like it is on rails. It was designed, engineered, and built completely in the U.S.A. and has been tested on race tracks around the U.S.

Each kit is built to balance the weight of your car from the Mustang V6 up to the mighty, and heavy, Shelby GT500. The kit is a full coil-over conversion with single adjustable "custom valved" Koni inserts both front and rear, and features specific spring rates for the different model cars and can be customized to suit different driving styles. The front struts have caster camber plates that allow for +/- 2.5 degrees of adjustment, along with off-set strut housings that allow fitment of 18 x 10.5 wheels with 315 tires all the way around the car. The coup de grace is the watts linkage that keeps that solid rear axle firmly placed in the center of the car no matter what terrain you going over or corner you are flying around. The pivot point for the watts linkage is incorporated into the differential cover for added strength, and can be moved while on the car to fine tune your roll center depending on what style of driving you are doing. The differential cover also has provisions for a differential cooler and temperature sensor, as well as fill and drain holes for ease of maintenance.

Options are available for this kit to complete the suspension make-over. Such as the Shelby American Handling Pack to keep body roll under control, and the adjustable sway bar end links that hold the front sway bar in place and can be adjusted for added stiffness. Also when lowering the car it is recommended to get bump steer tie rod adjusters to fine tune the bump steer out of the suspension to keep your car tracking straight and true even when going over rumble strips or hitting a joint on the street.

    Notes:

This is a track biased suspension system and will have a more rough ride and will transfer more noise into the cabin of the vehicle.

  10. Carroll Shelby: A Life Well Lived

Team Shelby - Carroll Hall Shelby, a man whose vision for performance transformed the automobile industry, has died at age 89, his company, Carroll Shelby International, said today. Mr. Shelby passed yesterday at Baylor Hospital in Dallas.

Born on January 11, 1923, in East Texas, Shelby is considered one of the truly great American success stories of the 20th century. Race car driver, WWII “Flying Sergeant", philanthropist, automotive entrepreneur and racing team owner, he came to embody the ingenuity, tenacity and grit needed to win during his 60+ year career.

The son of a postal worker in the hamlet of Leesburg, Texas, Shelby attended high school in Dallas and joined the Army to fight in World War II. After serving as an aviator in the war, he returned home to Texas where he dabbled in business with a dump truck operation, a chicken farm and a sports car dealership. It was while he co-owned the Dallas dealership with fellow Texans Jim and Dick Hall that Shelby first tasted car manufacturing. Together, they created a handful of “Scaglietti Corvettes” that were based on GM’s roadster.

Meanwhile, he began to feed his obsession for speed. Shelby’s first race was at a drag strip in a 1932 Ford. Moving on to road courses, he raced throughout the USA in his spare time. When all of his chickens died of limberneck disease, Shelby moved into the cockpit as a career.

Once on his way to a race, Shelby had to wear his work clothes from the farm to make the start time. When his odd racing attire netted him more attention and publicity than his victory, Shelby made the striped bib coveralls his trademark.

In just a few short years, he became a dominant figure on the racing scene. He was courted by the top car manufacturers in the world to drive for them, including Ferrari. Shelby captured three national sports car championships in the United States, earned a spot on the Aston-Martin team in Europe, won the 24 Hours of Le Mans and set land speed records at Bonneville Salt Flats. Twice, he was named Sports Illustrated’s “Driver of the Year.”

Still in his prime, a heart condition caused him to abandon his driving prematurely in 1960. Instead of reeling in self-pity, Shelby turned his attention and talents to race car design and automotive manufacturing.

Carroll Shelby believed in combining big horsepower with inspired engineering. He first approached Chevrolet because of his experience with the Scaglietti Corvettes. The idea was to fit the 283 c.i.d. Chevrolet motor into the AC Ace chassis, as the English carmaker had lost its engine deal. However, GM turned down what would have essentially been a competitor to their existing sports car.

That led Shelby to approach Lee Iacocca at Ford Motor Company with the idea of building a two seat sports car using the company’s new small block engine. It was the beginning of a lifelong friendship between the two.

When Ford agreed to supply motors and cash to start the venture, Shelby vaulted into action. He formed “Shelby American” around a group of Southern California hot rodders. They shoehorned Ford’s engine into the lightweight Ace roadster. Christened the Cobra, a name which Carroll said many times came to him in a dream, Shelby’s CSX2000 was introduced at the New York Auto Show in 1962. It turned the sports car world on its ear.

After developing a competition version of the Cobra, Shelby fielded a team in Europe to race against the best. In addition to racing the Cobras, both in coupe and roadster form, he eventually added Ford GT’s to the team at the behest of Ford Motor Company.

In 1965, they won the FIA sports car world championship and the next year captured the overall win LeMans with the Ford GT and a class win in the Cobra Daytona Coupe. Carroll Shelby is the only man to have won the prestigious Le Mans race as a driver, team owner and automotive manufacturer.

“Carroll Shelby was an automotive visionary and leader,” stated Dan Gurney, who was part of the Shelby American racing team and an American legend in the car building racing world. “His West Texas downhome bib overall style had a huge emotional impact on me and when he launched his now legendary Ford powered Cobra team, I found myself a very willing volunteer to lend my driving ability to his quest to take on the established European teams on their home turf.

As part of Shelby American, we managed to win some tremendous races together: the very first FIA sanctioned points race for Cobra at Bridgehampton 1963 in a Cobra Roadster, the GT classes at the Targa Florio, at Le Mans and at Goodwood with the Daytona Cobra Coupe in 1964. Then we won the crown jewel: the 1967 Le Mans 24 Hour Race with the Ford Mark IV. His leadership was very unconventional and more powerful than either his friends or competitors ever imagined. His charm will be missed, his reputation as a motorsports icon is secure.”

At the same time, Shelby’s operations turned out the Shelby 289 and 427 Cobras, as well as a succession of Mustang-based Shelby’s created at the request of Lee Iacocca at Ford Motor Company. He scaled back his California operations in the late 1960s when new government regulations and insurance rules began to affect the sales of performance cars. For several years, he operated businesses in Africa until civil war in the region closed them down.

Shelby was also a pioneer for modern licensing programs in the automotive industry. Beginning in the 1960s, he began licensing his name and designs for various products. Unfortunately, he was forced to assert his right to his famous trademarks and designs many times over the years, too.

In 1982, he began helping his friend Iacocca, who had assumed the helm at Chrysler, to enhance performance of the cars at the struggling company. His team turned the lowly K car into a pocket rocket and pioneered a new class of cars. They also created the muscle truck and developed the Dodge Viper, which paced the 1991 Indy 500 with Shelby at the wheel.

In 1988, Shelby started building Cobras again. Teaming with McCluskey, Ltd, he began development of the “mystical 43” 427 S/C big block Cobras, which were the last 43 chassis numbers left from FIA homologation. That laid the groundwork to develop a limited line of “continuation” big block Cobras.

In 1995, his long-established company, Shelby American, opened a facility in Las Vegas at the new Speedway to expand his continuation Cobra operations. In Las Vegas, he later manufactured the Oldsmobile powered Series 1 roadster in cooperation with GM and added other Cobra models. In 2005, Shelby entered into a new agreement with Ford Motor Company that involved him in the development of the new Ford GT and led to the re-introduction of several Mustang based Shelby cars, including the Shelby GT-H, Shelby GT-500, Shelby GT-500 “Super Snake,” Shelby GT and Shelby GT500KR.

Carroll Shelby spent 50 years establishing and protecting his name, trademarks and car design rights, and in the 1980s he established Carroll Shelby Licensing, Inc., which licenses companies worldwide to manufacture, market and sell everything from the best and fastest muscle cars on the road (e.g. the 1960s Shelby Cobra 289, 427 and Daytona Coupe, and more recently the Ford Shelby GT-500) to premium Shelby memorabilia. These first in brand licensees range from Ford Motor Company’s manufacture of the new model year Ford Shelby GT-500s, to clothing, diecast model cars and exciting video games such as “Need for Speed” (Electronic Arts) and “Forza Motorsport” (Microsoft).

“At Ford, Carroll Shelby will always be remembered as an innovator, a performance vehicle legend but most importantly an incredible partner and close friend for more than 60 years,” said Edsel Ford II, member of the Board of Directors of Ford Motor Company and great-grandson of Henry Ford, founder of Ford Motor Company. “The Ford and Shelby collaboration is something that has always been very important to me personally and Carroll will continue to be the inspiration behind our future collaboration that will carry his name. My family and I are honored to have had Carroll as a friend and part of our family. He will never be forgotten.”

Meanwhile, Shelby American, Inc., now headquartered in Las Vegas, continues to build authentic continuation Shelby Cobra vehicles. It also offers the best and most exciting contemporary American muscle cars on the road, such as the post-title Shelby GT500 “Super Snake”, Shelby GT-350 and the Shelby GTS.

Joe Conway, President of Carroll Shelby International, Inc. and board member, John Luft, President of Shelby American, Inc. and Tracey Smith, President of Carroll Shelby Licensing, Inc., combine to bring a formidable team of experience and dedication in carrying out Carroll Shelby’s visions for the future.

“We are all deeply saddened, and feel a tremendous sense of loss for Carroll’s family, ourselves and the entire automotive industry,” said Conway. “There has been no one like Carroll Shelby and never will be. However, we promised Carroll we would carry on, and he put the team, the products and the vision in place to do just that.”

“Carroll was a visionary who never stopped seeking ways to build faster, better cars,” noted Luft. “He was actively involved in each of the models we build today, the development of our parts business and each of the cars scheduled to be introduced over the next few years. Carroll Shelby was the ultimate competitor and his spirit will continue to guide our company.”
Shelby considered his greatest achievement to be the establishment of the Carroll Shelby Foundation™. Created in 1992 while Shelby was waiting for a heart transplant in the hospital, the charity is dedicated to providing medical assistance for those in in need, including children. The Foundation also supports educational opportunities for young people through automotive and other training programs and benefits the Carroll Shelby Automotive Foundation.
“Carroll formed a foundation to give something back to those who have not been as fortunate as him, in both medicine and education,” explained Carroll Shelby Foundation Board Member M. Neil Cummings, Esq. “The Foundation is well endowed to continue Carroll’s vision.”

Shelby remained active in the management of each of his companies and the Foundation until his death, even though he endured both heart and kidney transplants in the last two decades of his life. An innovator and pioneer, he achieved an almost mythical status that never diminished. He traveled the world, socialized with movie stars and beauty queens, made and lost numerous fortunes, won races, built cars and lived large.
Shelby is survived by his three children Patrick, Michael and Sharon, his sister, Anne Shelby Ellison of Fort Worth, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and his wife Cleo. Funeral plans are not immediately available. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to the Carroll Shelby Foundation (www.cscf.org).

Team Shelby – May 11, 2012 – Carroll Shelby International, Inc., announced today that Carroll Hall Shelby, a man whose vision for performance transformed the automobile industry, has died at age 89. Mr. Shelby passed away yesterday at Baylor Hospital in Dallas. The cause of death was not disclosed.

Born on Jan. 11, 1923, Carroll Shelby was one of America’s greatest success stories. Championship-winning racecar driver, “flying sergeant” wartime pilot, philanthropist, entrepreneur, car manufacturer and racing team owner, he embodied the ingenuity, tenacity and grit to overcome any obstacle. He is perhaps the only person to have worked at a visible level with all three major American automobile manufacturers.

Carroll Shelby founded Carroll Shelby International, a publicly held corporation involved in many industries. His licensing arm has agreements with industry giants, such as Mattel, Sony, Ford Motor Company and Electronic Arts. His car company, Shelby American, has a thriving parts business as well as a line of muscle cars including the Shelby GT500 Super Snake, Shelby GT350 and Shelby GTS. The Las Vegas-based company also manufactures a limited number of the 1960s Shelby 289 “street,” 289 FIA, 427 S/C and Daytona Coupe Cobras.

“We are all deeply saddened, and feel a tremendous sense of loss for Carroll’s family, ourselves and the entire automotive industry,” said Joe Conway, president of Carroll Shelby International, Inc. and board member. “There has been no one like Carroll Shelby and never will be. However, we promised Carroll we would carry on, and he put the team, the products and the vision in place to do just that.”

Shelby is survived by his three children Patrick, Michael and Sharon, his sister Anne Shelby Ellison of Fort Worth and his wife Cleo. Funeral plans are not currently available. Team Shelby – On the eve of its return to the New York International Auto Show, 50 years after the company made its debut, Shelby American, Inc., a division of Carroll Shelby International (CSBI.PK), unveiled the world’s most powerful series of muscle cars. Named the Shelby 1000, the 50-state, street-legal car is the high performance dream of founder Carroll Shelby. The Shelby American team enhanced the power, braking and handling of the 2012 Ford Shelby GT500 to create a hyper-performance muscle car available in both street and competition versions.

“We launched Shelby American with the Cobra at the 1962 New York Auto Show,” said Carroll Shelby. “The 289 Cobra was considered pretty radical at the time. For our return 50 years later, I wanted something just as incredible that will show how far we’ve come and where we’re headed for the next 50 years.”

The Shelby 1000 was born in Carroll Shelby’s imagination in 2011. Having just achieved 800 horsepower with the famed Shelby GT500 Super Snake, he and his band of modern day hot rodders at Shelby American believed that they could enhance Ford’s well-engineered car even more.

“Carroll modeled the Shelby 1000 on the same philosophy as he did in the ‘60s, using a balance of horsepower and handling,” added John Luft, president of Shelby American. “Carroll was actively involved in every aspect of the Shelby 1000’s development, from the design to the testing and ultimately his final approval. Once again, Shelby American is making history and rewriting the rules for performance.”

The Shelby1000 will be offered in both street and Shelby 1000 S/C “off-road” track versions. The street legal, pump gas version dyno’s out at approximately 950 HP, while the track oriented “S/C” version is rated at over 1,100 HP.

“We didn’t simply turn up the boost to get this level of horsepower,” explained Gil Navarrez, Shelby American’s Speed Shop director. “We took the serious hot rod approach by taking Ford’s 5.4 liter engine down to the block, and beefed up the internals by machining it for new rods, crank and pistons. We also flowed the heads, revamped the cooling and improved the exhaust. With a choice of a Kenne- Bell 3.6 liter or the new Whipple 4.0 liter supercharger and tune, it will crank out serious power all day long.”

Shelby’s enhancements didn’t stop at the engine. The Shelby American team worked closely with engineering partners like Ford Racing, Borla, Tremec and Kenne Bell to create the ultimate, handcrafted muscle car.

“This car is the total package,” noted Gary Patterson, vice president of operations. “It was conceived as the ultimate Shelby and honed during substantial testing. It’s the most powerful Shelby based on a Ford Mustang that has ever been built at Shelby American.”

The rear end was replaced with a high performance 9-inch unit; the brakes include 6 pistons in front and 4 pistons out back. The driveshaft is a stronger unit while the suspension includes new struts, sway bars and bushings. The hood, rear panel and splitter are functional pieces for performance.

“We did focus groups with Shelby customers, and even showed them our initial styling designs,” explained Vice President of Production Gary Davis. “They overwhelmingly asked for this stealth exterior approach. Something cast in the mold of the most serious muscle cars of the ‘60s. Everything was engineered and designed with a ‘form follows function’ philosophy.”

The result is a Shelby with subtle, yet substantial changes. From the interior touches to the hood, wheels and aerodynamic styling, the car is stripped to its bare essence. In keeping with its 50th anniversary theme, a limited production of 100 Shelby 1000s will be built. Each will be numbered and documented for the Shelby registry.

The post-title package for the Shelby1000 starts at $149,995 and the track S/C version starts at $154,995, not including the base GT500. A completed Shelby 1000 is expected to be approximately $200,000.

Shelby American is now accepting orders for the limited edition Shelby 1000. Those interested in reserving a car should contact the Shelby American Sales team at (702) 942-7325 or visit Shelby American.com.
