I lived in Canada for 3 years and experienced the Canadian medical system. I prefer the US system. I was more refering the the political enviroment though. I don't think conservatives/republicans would find Canada to hospitable to their political beliefs, with the possible exception of Alberta.

I have a really bad feeling about this.

I also think there is no comparison between Clinton and Obama. For all his faults, Clinton was pretty centrist and moderate in much of what he did, and there was nothing to really fear in his foreign policy views. Obama is much more extreme and too the left, and I do not think we have yet seen how extreme and too the left he really is.

If the economy stays in its slump (and I do not think we have seen the worst of it yet) you can count on reduced military spending and increased taxes to accomplish the agenda Obama has. I also expect that things will get much worse in the middle east as our presence their is scaled back, and I think Israel is going to be vulnerable as I think Obama has little concern about Israel, and one thing that keeps Israel safe is the knowledge that the US would step in if Israel was attacked.

Say what you want about Bush, I can tell you that my family and I are better off now than they were when Bush took office. Many voted for Obama because they want something and they beleive that Obama will provide it for them. I want nothing, I merely want to protect the life that I share with my family.

I think we are in for a rough ride. I expect a drop in my income and an increase in my taxes over the next four years, and I expect that I will need to make changes because of it.

I am 46, and never had any real concerns before after a presidential election. I was not real happy about Carter or Clinton, and I was not even really concerned about what would happen if Kerry or Gore had been elected rather than W.

I am concerned about Obama.

I experienced the medical many times.

My brother died from two cancers he received during his SIX YEARS in Vietnam.

He received 220 blood transfusions over 3 years. $2000.00 per. No cost to him.

His final experience was a bone marrow transplant- approximate cost $750,000. No cost to him.

I lived 10 years in the U.S. I experienced your health system.

Received a severe burns boiling out a defective broiler while working at a Long John Silvers, age 16.

Spent 7 hours in emergency waiting for treatment. Finally went into shock and almost lost my life. Spent weeks treating my burns.

The bill was over $25,000. Thank goodness LJS paid the bill.

Brother Bill collapsed one day on base. They exrayed his knee. Navy doctor decided he needed

his leg amputated but required my fathers permission.

He refused. Turned out they had the wrong x-rays. He actually had fragments of a fracture his knee received as a youth lodged in a nerve. They removed them and he was fine.

Lets talk dentistry. It only took 2 trips to the hospital for the Dentist to realize ALERGIC means ALERGIC.

Anapholatic shook, adrenaline in the heart to save my life. Dentist lost his license a few years later.

I'll stay in Canada thanks.

When I was young and dumb and poor I was a democrate now that I am older, smarter, work harder and have money I have mostly republican beliefs. Lets see if Barack will get all the lazy BAS&(&(&ds in our country to work harder and stay off of welfare if he does than thats a step in the right direction. I do know that Barrack has given a lot of people hope which is not a bad thing, I guess only time will tell.................

I agree ccmellies, we have a right to bear arms. I consider myself a level headed person....we'll just have to wait and

see if Barrack can deliver. My guess is, he will not be as effective as most of the Dems believe. I thought the change

was going to be soon, but last night he starts pedaling backwards and mentions it might take more than his first term.

Here we go....emptiness...kinda like the new Camaro. :headscratch:

i have been practicing in US since 1994 (the year i finished training in internal medicine) and i can tell you that there is no compromise on quality of care from the close circles of doctors from different specialties. Am surprised to the frequent bad experiences you have encountered and sorry for that..But i would think it the exception and not the rule...and if you dig in canadian medical cases you prolly will find more horror stories than you have experienced. we have to earn our credit hours of continuous education, re-certify for our boards and on the top...the patients are educated... they challenge my knowledge to the degree that i have to say in some cases please give me few i will look it up on the net to see the recent updates...and turns out the patient was on the top of it.

Also a prayer every morning to ask god help in reaching the right diagnosis and treatment will go all the way with what i mentioned above.

Ok for arguement's sake, I'll concede your health system is better (although my personal experience is the opposite of yours). That was not the point I was making.

My point: When Bush was elected in 2000 and 2004, many on the left in this country (especially those in Hollywood) said they would move to Europe or Canada in protest. Why? Because they would be in a country where most citizens shared their political beliefs, which tend to be a more center left social democratic political belief system.

Now that Obama has been elected, some on the right will say/think they want to move to another country. My point is that I don't think they will find a politically friendly environment for their Center-Right/Republican/Conservative leanings in most of Canada and Europe. The vast majority of the populations in these countries would be to the political left of Republican/conservative Americans. In fact I'm at a loss to think of another country on the earth that has the shared political and economic freedoms of the US and where most of the popluation is center-right in their political beliefs.

I always thought Australia would be nice. I love Australia. Probably because I think Elle McPherson is hotter than Pamela Anderson :D

I agree, she is hotter!

There was a test done a few years back. Not sure how they cleared customs. They flew 20 Americans to a city in Canada.

Asked them where they were. Not one person knew they were in Toronto or Canada. All though they were in the US. but were confused because it was so clean! :hysterical:

Politically speaking our leader has about as much control over the country as yours- very little.

It is an absolute shame. I can't think of a worse person to lead our country, and I'll never understand why he got the number of votes he got. ..........................

Obama will never have my support unless he changes his tune about a lot of the above issues which are critical to me. In the meantime, all we can do is plan and work to oust this guy in 2012, if he doesn't get impreached before then!

you can't understand because you are arrogant. (definition: arrogant - exaggerating or disposed to exaggerate one's own worth or importance often by an overbearing manner ) Your "facts" are right wing hype, but you can't step back and look at them objectively because your opinions are worth more than the majority.

The fact that "... Obama will never have my support ..." says that you don't really care about moving the country forward, even as much as John McCain does.

I have another Brother who is a C.O.O. for a group of hospitals in Minnesota.

He says our system is better when you are young, your system is better when you are older. You spend more money on meds to keep the old alive even if it is on a machine.

Americans some times spend tens of thousands of dollars keeping seniors alive only to have a family member "unplug" the person because the family is broke.

I can tell you dozens of horror stories from your hospitals. I listen to a bunch of doctors, specialists etc. every summer at Oshkosh go on and on about the horrors of your health care. I agree we have problems as well but don't have to get a second mortgage to pay the bill.

I personally know of three people who lost their houses when the required bypass surgery.

I want to work my whole life, pay off my house only to have to start all over at age 60 because Blue Cross and whoever else involved doesn't pay all the bill. And for this I get the pleasure of paying $500-$600 a month in premiums for family with only a $2000.00 deductible family member?

Or not pay for health care and pray I don't get sick.

I can but a heck of a lot of Tax for $500-600 a month.

Lets hope for your sake Barak Abama fixes for Health care.

Let's ask Mr. Ruf, approximately how much have you spent trying to help Christine?

Think of the mods you could have bought with that money.

As far as keeping up with technology, our doctors are just as up to date as yours.

I say an add on US Tv a while back saying "Don't buy medication from a third world country like Canada, Buy U.S."

I was appalled.

One, Canada is not a Third World Country.

Second, Your medicines are mostly made in Canada. So buying from Canada or the US they come from the same manufacturing facility.

Third, Why do your meds cost so much?

When my father moved back to Ontario I had to renew his prescriptions.

His $800.00 US prescriptions cost a little over $200.00 here.

Same drugs, manufactured from the same facility as when he got them in the US.

Greed, thats why.

Tests. Your Doctors run many tests that are really not necessary. Why? They don't want to get sued. Cover your ASS.

It is an absolute shame. I can't think of a worse person to lead our country, and I'll never understand why he got the number of votes he got. He:

Has little to no experience

Associates with criminals and terrorists

Promotes abortion and will sign the Freedom of Choice Act

Will fill the Supreme Court with liberal, leftist judges

Has never been fully vetted

Associates with socialists and marxists

Promotes socialism

Will hurt small businesses

Wants to negotiate with terrorists and enemies w/out preconditions

Wants to raise our taxes

Wants to increase the size of government

Willl enact a socialistic health care plan (more taxes, more government control)

Has an extremely oversized ego

Have I left anything out?

I guarantee you that at least 50% of the people who voted for him don't know about the above. They just wanted "change". Well, they're going to get it!!!

Obama will never have my support unless he changes his tune about a lot of the above issues which are critical to me. In the meantime, all we can do is plan and work to oust this guy in 2012, if he doesn't get impreached before then!

I can think of a very long list of People Worse then Obama, (I voted McCain) and several of those People are His Friends.

David.

The stock market is down today. Where is the enthusiasm?

Obama ran and won on a moderate platform, yet his record shows nothing moderate about him. He is a dyed in the wool politician. He may be forced to move more to the center, but there is no doubt in my mind which way he leans.

I've just heard that the financial folks feel Obama plans to make more below market loans available for housing. Isn't this how the whole financial collapse started?

As far as moving to another country, where??? I can't think of another country that isn't socialist. Could that be why "the world hates us?" (which I disagree with. Totalitarian govt's hate us, but the people in those countries are risking their lives to get here.)

I will continue to support my President, but if things go the way I think they will, I think a lot of folks will be voting Republican in 2010.

Thank god i have never been sued and i pray every day to not .

Even if i do not agree with the legal system's sue happy. I have to admit it is one of the check and balance that keeps Doctors on tip toes ...and with some draw backs (cost wise to medical system) it is not a bad thing to the patients after all...it will be worse if there were no consequences to mistakes.

Well, this is pretty much a repeat of 1976 for those of us who were voting back then. One of the Democrats last night said perhaps the Chosen One will rein in Pelosi and Reid to avoid what happened to the dems after Carter trashed the military and economy back then.

Unfortunately, that would require Obama to be far more moderate than Carter, and that would also involve learning from past mistakes.

Not very bloody likely.
