He wanted to create a club for people to truly enjoy their cars. He knew the world had changed, and he wanted his companies to meet the needs of the new generation of Shelby owners. His vision was to knit together those people with the owners of early Shelby's and give everyone fun new ways to experience their high performance vehicles.   Mr. Shelby imagined a place where owners could talk about their latest conquests at the track, swap stories, share photos and learn new ways to hot rod their cars! He wanted to link all of the enthusiasts into one "dream garage"... thus, Team Shelby was born!   Team Shelby has many free, open access forums, news sections and member only areas dedicated to the community.   In addition, Team Shelby has a full series of events for 2018, which include VIP Experiences, track days, National & Regional gatherings, cruises, car shows and more! Ownership of a Shelby is not required to be a member. The club is dedicated to serving all Shelby enthusiasts past and present including those that own cars built in the 1960's and Shelby Dodges too! What Does Your Spouse Think of our Hobby?

Recommended Posts

I was responding to another thread this morning, and this thought popped into my head.

For the record, Gina is VERY 'in tune' to my "Car Porn", as she calls it! Lol!! However, she has a hard time with a few things that she feels are obsesive. Obsesive? Is that possible? :hysterical:

Anyway, it took her a long time to get the TS Forums thing. She is on board now, asking almost every night when she gets home from work..." Anything from your Shelby freaks today? " I guess I should take that endearingly?

I am constantly (though not as much as when I was younger) changing cars. We have been together for 32 years, so nothing is a surprise to her anymore. Throughout our time together, I have had right at or over 100 cars. She's been there for the whole ride....excuse the pun! Until about ten years ago, we argued about EVERY single car change. When it was time for me to think about another car, or truck, it came with heart and stomachache, knowing that it was gonna be a fight to get her onboard. At times, it watered down my excitement for the car, just knowing it was going to create an arguement. Then we opened the bikestore....Feb. 1999. Everything changed. She said to me, " OK, now your habit can be supported by the shop and your cars will be a write-off. " Well.....that's what happened. After that, all of my UPS shipments for mods, came directly to the shop through the back door along with bikes and accessories. She didn't care anymore, 'cause the cost of all of the car parts were written off by the store, as a benefit to me as the owner of the biz! The biz helped significantly with paying for the GT500. Aaawwww...that was the life! No More arguements!

Spin the clock forward to June, 2009. We are living in Canada, and I put the shop on Craigslist. Sold it in three days! Wonderful right? But wait Batman........................no more write-offs!

So here we are back to the old days, somewhat. Now I'm on the hunt for a used Super Duty again. I found one last night on the net...an original owner, super low miler, and I have to show / tell her about it. I cringe a bit as I show her the pics, and describe it to her. Amazing!!! This time, I get, " Well if that's what you want...be sure. " :headscratch:

Then I realize, it's my b/day on the 15th. OK...maybe that's the dealio? We'll see. I need to figure out how to get to KY to go see the thing. Hurdle #2! :hysterical:

Please share your stories with all of us, on this topic...like how you pay for mods...how you beg for forgiveness, in lieu of asking permission...how you sleep on the couch after car / parts 'discussions'...etc...etc...etc... :hysterical:

Thanks all,

I used to get the same thing (arguments) until I bought the Shelby. Becky has known for a long time how I feel about Shelby, with this car all I gotta do is tell her what I wanna do. It was even easy to convince her I needed the GT/SC package. This car has allowed us to do all kinds of things and meet all kinds of people otherwise we would not have had the opportunity to do. happy%20feet.gif Because of my Shelby I was even able to convince her that she too, wanted a mustang. superhero.gif

Not much. It's better now that she has her garage space back. You should have heard the whining over the cost of the new radiator for the Cobra.

That's her in all 3 pictures...

Top = Ride in Terlingua prototype with Gary P.

Middle = Sitting in the staging lines for time trials at Drag Strip.

Bottom = Waiting for the Green Light at the "Powder Puff" eliminations in Tulsa.

And up until last year her DD was a 2006 Black Mustang V-6 with a Hurst Shifter, Dual Exhaust, CAI & Performance Tunes for a more "spirited" commute to work shift.gif Unfortunately, that combo doesn't do well in the winter months, so it was traded this Fall for a 4x4 Pathfinder...

It's so funny you mention this Mike...why is it that in our hobby, that is even a question? Every guy I know that is a self proclaimed car guy, will tell you that his wife tells all their friends that he will never grow up!

Thankfully, I met my GF because of my hobby.

She owns an 04 Cobra and we were both members on another mustang forum. We ran into each other at some cruises and shows and hit it off.

I mod her car as well, so she doesn't object much... Until lately. You see, a Griggs Racing suspension costs about as much as a nice ring.....

Here she is at the track:

My bad....couldn't tell with the helmet. You are lucky buddy.....my wife wouldn't drive a Mustang if you pulled up to the house right now and told her you were from Publishers Clearing House, and that she just won this brand new 5.0 Mustang and DID NOT EVEN have to pay a penny of tax on it!!!!! :hysterical:

Even had to buy her a different colored helmet (Black) just so I could pick out who was driving at the time when other people took the pictures... Kind of like putting the "547" on the side of my car so I can pick it out from the sea of other white Shelby GT's...

My wife and I have been into cars for over 30 years, mostly corvettes. Her car now and has been a Red on red 2003 vette vert. We have showed cars for years now just enjoy them. In the late 80's and 90's we showed and did some autocrosses. She would be there with me cleaning and getting the car ready for a show...UPS was always coming to the house with more and more stuff for the car. All she would say was NOW WHAT....You really need that. I would yes dear...Well in the early 90's she came down with Lupus and diabetes. That kinda ended doing carshows. Sunlight is her biggest enemy...She still loves cars. We've done Hot August Nights for the last 20+ years plus. We still do alot of car events. I'm into my 2008 Mustang GT350 ShelbyTribute Car my version back in the old days ( don't hate me). Having a blast with it....Spending money fixing this one up and now hearing my wife again saying...You really need that...all I say is I'm using my side money it and I say you have the vette and I have the mustang but she loves it. One of these days I will have my friend do a photo show of it so you can check it out. You can see my car if you go to the region groups look at Pacific coast page 2 and look at Old Mission Car Show Photo Slow it's the Vista Blue with white strips....I'm just a car nut.....

My EX-Wife was NEVER into the Car Stuff and did NOT like me being into either. I still can't figure out why she Merried me knowing damn well I was really REALLY into Cars. After 7 Years of Marriage she asked me for a Divorce siting that the Car Stuff was to much for her. Since 1979 I have owned around 200 Vehicles with only about 25 of them during the time we were Married.

Marji has been a real good sport with my car hobby. If I find a car I want.......and we have the disposable funds.......she gives me her blessing and I get it.

As for getting involved, she's not really into going to the track or the car shows, but she comes along because of the people......she really likes the friends we've made at the TS events.

What Does Your Spouse Think of our Hobby?

ALL FOR IT!!!

When my wife and I meet I was a bracket racer at the local drag strip, racing almost every Friday night. When she was younger her dad had taken her to the circle track races many times, so she already had been influenced. In the early years it was all about me and my car, but as time as gone on I enjoy moving the spot light over to her. We enjoy taking vacation trips to show events (this year it's going to be Sturgis) attending Nascar and NHRA races and from time to time hitting the track ourselves. She's the one responable in making me go to the dealership to look at the SGT, then she finalizing the deal after I gave up on the negotiations. Besides having to sharing my mod money it's been a win/win situation, and won't trade it for anything.

In this video Diane and I squared off at last years All Ford event, Woodburn Drag strip.

that's funny, as my wife & i are opposite, I'm black helemt, and she's the white helmet... i let her drag the gt500 until i'm done with the notch build-up for her... until she did a cluch burnout... until that point i had no problem with her driving, but she got herself banned until she can afford to fix what she breaks...

i spend what i want as i feel if i put more towards the house (kids college already paid for), then i can do whatever i want...

Lmao!!! My wife tells me as long as I do overtime at work its all game, however, lately though we are thinking about having a small one :play: .... so as much as I would love to have a supercharger under my hood I don't think it will happen for quite some time. She knows I love cars period so she lets me be with my car club events, occasionally she will drop by a show or two depending on location (either for shopping or eating at a nice restaurant).

Once you have that baby she will be watching that spending on the other baby. Diapers and baby formula take a big chunk out of the car fund !! I use to tell my wife can't you just change like 3 x's a day. She would get pissed if she left me with the baby she would call me and tell me you better be changing her if she poo's or pee's, I would tell her that I put newspaper down on the floor. :hysterical: Forget the formula that crap stunk worse than a diaper and cost more than royal purple !!!! I use tell my wife can't you stretch it out more with some water. Wait till the kid throws up on you after to bottles of that stuff you will be puking too!! Thank god my dog use to lick up !! So times I will point the baby at the dog and she would get covered in it !!! :barf: :beerchug:
