Cobra Emblem on a GTS?

Recommended Posts

I have gone back and forth on this one for my GTS due to the fact the only Mustang that I can think of that carries the Snake is the GT500. However, the Cobra is the first thing most people associate with a Shelby anything, so I don't see anything wrong with it. I have thought about adding snake center caps on my wheels... Also considering adding the GT500 leather skins if I can find some with blue stripes.

I believe we do have an official Cobra emblem for the GTS.

They are on my wheel center caps when I got the wheel and tire package. There is a Cobra emblem and the letters GTS.

It might be nice to expand that theme and have it printed on other things for our cars.

See photo, next post.

I think a faux gas cap on the rear of our GTS models with this logo would look great.

I agree and would love to have some of those center caps for my stock wheels... but alas, I was told they could only be had with the wheel upgrade..

I would rather have the Tiffany cobra logo, it just looks better to me. But I agree with y'all. I would like to see more Cobra's woven into the GTS theme. I'm curious as to why it hasn't been added before.

One thing the GTS doesn't have, is a cobra/snake emblem.

Has anybody, or will anybody, put such an emblem on their GTS?

If I'm not mistaken, the reason the Cobra emblem was on the classic Mustang/Shelby was because they had "Cobra Jet" (CJ) or "Super Cobra Jet" (SCJ) engines in them. I think some of the CJ/SCJ Torino's had a Cobra emblem on them too (telling people it was a CJ or SCJ Torino).

The contemporary Mustang GT500 has the SVT 5.4L or 5.8L engine in it which is different from all other Mustang models, hence the "Cobra" designation on the fenders, grille and (faux) gas cap.

At least that's MY understanding of why we have a Cobra on the side of a Shelby Mustang.

Is the engine somehow different or unique in a GTS? And I don't mean 'different' in that there's a bolt-on supercharger or something like that...

There's nothing unique or different on the GTS engines ... unless you pay for it like lbj did to his!!! However, the GTS wheels do come with the Cobra so I'm not sure where to go with the conversation.

The Shelby GT faux gas cap is avaliable for SGT owners. It looks great and I really like it.. I believe it was developed do to owner requests and demand. Jer would know that story.

The only person that ever had anything to say about the cobra (faux gas cap) on my SGT was a ten year old kid. He asked " is that a Cobra". What could I say?

But I do think the SGT and GTS has Cobra DNA.(powered by ford badge/SGT hood scoop). So they can wear the Cobra proud. It is in its blood.

Thanks. I'll soon put one on proudly. I can understand the "bigger engine" argument. But the GT350 with a 5.0 now has Cobras.

I like the idea of keeping the pony because is still is a mustang. But i'd still like to put a Cobra on my GTS.

I've had someone ask me if my GTS was a "replica" Shelby. I wonder if that had anything to do with not having a Cobra on it? Probably not, the guy was driving an a oxymoron called a Porsche SUV. I don't need to elaborate further.

I think the boys at Shelby heard you guys loud and clear because I just got new pictures of my completed car and there is the rear GTS cap. Great job!

That must be new, first time I have seen one of these.

I wonder if they are for sale and fit the 2012 models.

Though I'd still like to have a snake on one.

I aslo wonder if they did these because the rear decks are different and there is no GTS cut into the stripe like on the 2011/12 models.

You are right there is no GTS on the rear stripe. Always happy to see something new on the car that was not mentioned in the package.

I have not yet seen my car in person but the blue looks lighter than the blue used in previous years. I do like this blue!

Where did your old GT350 go? What a rare car? Is it being salvaged?

It looks OK but seems a bit busy.

The snake emblem alone without the Powered by Ford would work better IMO, but that is just me.

What is really important is that you like it.

Dumb question here - but can you GTS owners tell me what the "S" stands for? Is it Supercharged? I ask b/c I've seen Supercharged done with the "SC" letters, so just wondering. Thanks/Gary

I've always thought the S stands for Shelby.

I've always thought the S stands for Shelby.

That is also my understanding.

My guess was that the "S" was added to differentiate their use of the GT model used from the 07-09.
