NEW Shelby $1000 or $500 Wristwatch?

Recommended Posts

It looks as though real CS watch fans would love to have something super-accurate, but not as a "COLLECTIBLE" Category:

I really like nice watches. Not so much for the accuarcy (if my watch loses/gains a second of two a month, who cares...I set it five minutes fast anyway), but for the style. I'm into what I would call performance or avaitor type watches, not so much lots of gold and 'bling'. Something like: Tag Heuer, Breitling, even some vintage Omega's.

That said, the only Tag Heuer I have is a knock-off because I can't see putting that much money into something to wear on my wrist. I'd rather put those dollars into upgrades for my Shelby, or even a nice vacation.

I bought a really nicely designed self-winding 'skeleton' watch on E-Bay for less than $20.00! It came from China, the hands may fall off in the next few years, but for now it looks very eyecatching and unique. When it stops working I'll buy something else. I can buy a lot of $20.00 watches for the price of the cheapest Tag.

So what I guess I'm saying is that I would like a less expensive watch, that has a nice design. I would sacrifice accuracy for a lower price point. At $1000, I'll never buy one. At $500, it would be a stretch, but I'd consider it. At $250, I'd probably order one if I liked the design.

....but I'll still wish I had a Tag Monaco or a Breitling Navitimer Chronmeter

ps - my everyday watch is a Casio Edifice with a carbon fiber face. It was a Christmas gift from Mrs. Z last year.

I'm working on this. I'm also a fan of the same stuff (I want a Breitling Navitimer too), and I'm looking to offer a nicer watch than we currently have, while keeping the price down as much as possible.

Thanks,

I bought a watch from a company called Lum Tec. It is a really nice watch for the price.

I know they made a limited run with another car forum with the website logo on the watch face.

Might want to check them out too.

Just my two cents.

Jer, there is a market for this....Casio makes the Edifice Redbull, and a few others out there look good in that price range, but if you could get Breitling on board or another name we all know, it would sell like hotcakes....

I own the Shelby watch that came out a few years ago, but I pretty much only wear Breitlings these days unless Im wearing a suit

Ummmm......don't forget that we ladies would like a ladies version too :-)

Cheaper than the $500 versions. I would rather have a few than one more expensive watch. I have a drawer full of them to pick whichever I want for the day ie Shelby, SVT, Terlingua, Mickey, Minnie, pink face blah blah blah

Have TAG do a watch like the Le Mans Heritage model.

I actually own one of the limited edition Falcon FP-V watches that Ford did for the initial run of the Aussie super sedan. One was given to the buyers of the cars and then they were given the opportunity to purchase one extra. That's how I ended up with mine. They ran in the $250 range as I recall. They were tastefully done with the face of the watch having the FPV logo and a red ring to simulate the starter button of the Falcon. The back has the FPV logo as well.

I haven't worn a watch in over 20 years and the David Yuman Shelby 1000 piece is the first watch I've seen in 20 years that I'd actually wear...but not at that price! If there was a $1000 clone...I'd be all over it.

I'd definitely be interested in a more affordable Version compared to the David Yurman version. If that exact Yurman watch was between $500-$1000 I'd own it!

I agree. The $500 ceiling for any watch is high, let alone the $1000. That takes a lot of disposable income. Especially because it is a want and not necessarily a need.

I think Shelby would sell the heck out of $250 watches that could encompass the different design that reflect vehicles produced. One for the GT, GT-H, SS, KR, Terlingua, etc.

While most of us have good income, not all will part with it quite so easily on such an expensive item that will get wear and tear.

Well, that's what's got my wheels turning... I'm not attracted to $99 watches, but I don't need a $10,000 watch either. So I'd like to make the watch *I* want, a nice under-$1000 wristwatch that really represents the brand well, not ritzy, but not something disposable either. I have a few Hamilton watches I love, they're reliable, and they're in that price range, right around $500 or so.

Jer I know your caught here, many are saying $1000 is to much, but to get a quality time peice with the limited run that is going to be made due to demand $1000 is probably going to be the price unless your thinking Quartz? If Quartz I will not pay over $500 for any Quartz watch, actually I have not bought a Quartz watch in years.

The answer to this is probably no, but....

Would it be possible to have a watch designed so that it could have either a quartz movement or a 'higher end' movement in it. If so, you could basicaly design one watch and hit both price points. Maybe the more expensive watch could also have a little something different (precious stone set at the '12' position or a fancy band?) to differentiate it from the less expensive one.

On a side note, I had a blue faced Tag Monaco on my wrist yesterday. It went back in the display case when I was done 'dreaming', and $6300 got to stay in my bank account. I just can't justify that much money for a watch.

The primary problem with the Yuman watch is that it is a Yuman watch, jewelry, and not even a fine quartz time piece like an Omega. It is way over priced for its type. Trying to be close to a jeweled chroinometer like Baume and Mercer, Breguet, Rolex, Breitling,Tag Huer, etc. at $9000 because there is a Cobra logo on the face just does not cut it. It is just a basic timepiece with a pretty face that no high end jeweler or watch collector would acknowledge. It appears that it is trying to ride on the acceptance f the Bentley Breitling without near the quality. Embarrassing marketing.

Jer, you have a bit of a challenge here. In order to get the quality finishing of the materials and that weight associated with a quality timepiece you are going to be closer to the $1000.00 price point.

I'm into mechanical chronographs and as my wife reminds me "your cell phone keeps more accurate time". I purchase based upon brand, looks and uniqueness or collectability. This is not for investment but enjoyment. I wear my timepieces. I own the Yurman Shelby 1000 in the Black PVD finish. Yurman was kind enough to reserve the same serial number as my 50th anniverary SS (also black). I also have three different Breitling for Bentley timepieces and find the quality of the Yurman very comparable.

Jer - you've done some amazing things since joining Shelby American, I know you'll hit this one out of the park as well. I'd go for one.

Ladies watch please :-)

I agree a ladies watch should be made available. I no longer wear a watch but I would buy one for my wife.

I love this idea but I'd prefer a everyday watch. My Luminox has literally been through war and is still ticking. Luminox watches ranges from $200 on up over 1k for the Tony Kanaan edition. One suggestion I have is to keep the design simple and be functional and have a logo like the CS sp to appeal to webzine in order to keep cost down rather than having a SS, KR, SGT,Terlingua....design. Just a thought.

That's EXACTLY my plan.

Our wristwatch lineup (at least everything over $100 or so) will be all about the BRAND, not the individual cars.

The Yurman watches are beautiful. I would not spend that much but would consider $500.

I love the band on the Yurman watch. That cobra skin look is killer. Jer... consider that a VERY desirable feature... at least from my perspective.

Me too...actually, the whole watch in black (minus the 1000 thing) - a cheaper knock-off would be great. There are already a bunch of Ford, Mustang, and Shelby watches out there, but none are as nicely put together as the Yuman piece. The band is definitely icing on the cake.

It would be nice to have a quality watch in the $500 - $1000 range from Shelby. I have enough lower prices watches at this point and don't buy high priced watches anymore. Count me in Jer if it looks and feels right.

What do you guys think of this design? The watch is solid titanium and is water resistant to 330 feet, 45mm case which can be black titanium or grey titanium, black rubber strap with tiitanium clasp, hard mineral crystal (with option to upgrade to sapphire), Japanese Quartz movement. Luminous Dial. If team Shelby approves the design there are a wide variety of colors I can make these in that are great mustang colors.

I have two jewelry and watch stores in Atlanta GA. We sell this watch (without the Shelby logo of course) for $145.00.

I played with the Team Shelby logo all in various sizes and placements, and this is by far the winner.

Jer, what do you and everyone else think of it?

Thanks

Harris

I kinda like it but maybe the Team Shelby logo could cover the entire face of the watch and have an option for a different wrist band like a metal one.

Just my $0.02
