Shelby-Built, Jet-Powered 1,325-Hp Indy Car

Recommended Posts

They are reviewing it on Mecum auctions on TV right now. Sells Saturday I believe. What an amazing machine. Another one that I knew nothing about. I know a ton of Shelby and Indy history, but didn't know about this car or the story. Another great Shelby story and piece of history! It has Carroll's signature on the roll bar cover body work.

So much awesome iron around here this week. Cannot even keep up or fathom the amount of money on the peninsula.

Nice car, I bet the driver's ears would be ringing pretty good after a couple hours of turbine exhaust next to his ear. The exhaust looks like it would generate downforce too.

I saw this car @ the Mecum auction yesterday and picked up one of the brochures. They had a spare (GE) turbine motor sitting next to it - so maybe it comes with a spare engine when you buy the car. And NO I did NOT ask them to fire the thing up. :) Looked really cool though !

There were supposed to be 3 Built. I wonder if they ever started on the 3rd one and if so, what happened to it.

Is this the one Parnelli Jones drove, that Andy Granitelli did? That is the only turbine one I remember from the Indy 500.
